i prefer to dress glamorously

but i am actually grateful if anyone has a party these days that i would def make the effort - well done them - everyone i know is too bloody lazy

Personally I'd much rather go to a fancy dress party. I worry far more about looking nice in glam clothes at a normal party. With fancy dress, I have carte blance to look silly and everyone else will be silly too, whereas in normal clothes people are more likely to judge me and think "she's too fat / old to carry that off", and I'll be looking at the young slim ones and wishing I could wear what they wear.

Me too Fluffy!

I love fancy dress. Would do it every week if I could and as it is, I manage it about 3 or 4 times a year - far more fun than normal clothes and you're guaranteed not to be wearing the same dress as anybody else. And you can wear wigs - I love wigs!!!

skeletonbones · 10/01/2008 19:02

could you not wear your normal clothes and add some easily lost items to accesorize? like fairy wings and a wand and then 'put them down and forget where they are' at some point in the party?
I love fancy dress meself and inflict it on my friends every year when we go out for my birthday ducks

I don't like wearing fancy dress myself so tend to go as someone who wears fairly normal party clothes. Dh wants fancy dress for his 40th but has chosen Dr Who - I will be pointing out to all guests this means they can come as anyone, real or imagined, from any period of history including the future. Or any species.

Funnily enough I was talking about fancy dress parties last night. I hthink my favourite one was where the theme was 'star trek' or something like that. So I put on deely-boppers in my hair, knee-length skirt, high boots and a t-shirt saying 'heavenly'. Sorted and I didn't have to go to a huge amount of trouble.

I hate the school days parties though - there's too many of them. Purh-lease!

bookwormmum · 10/01/2008 19:16

Dr Who is a good theme. Bagsy I the Kylie costume .

My brother went to a fancy dress party as 'Premature Ejaculation' wearing only his underpants. As he explained, "I've just come in my pants".

onebatmother · 10/01/2008 20:17

lol BS

onebatmother · 10/01/2008 20:19

or a large blue box edam
or even another dimension.
If I were to go as Another Dimension, the dimensions I'd choose would be 36-24-34

MrsFlora · 10/01/2008 23:14

my favourite ones are hookers and pimps! yiiihhhaa!

merlotmama · 10/01/2008 23:20

lol at premature ejaculation.

Many years ago I saw a man carrying a guitar and wearing one of those Australian (bush?) hats, only he had tampons where the corks should be.

He was a Wandering Menstrual.
