Eh? Link?

Bagelsandbrie · 05/04/2022 11:36

Oh sorry just seen the photo!

mibbelucieachwell · 05/04/2022 11:37

Well done Jamie. There's only one real alternative to ageing.

SpacePotato · 05/04/2022 11:43

Women are told from an early age that ageing is bad. Older women are gross. Once they are past their prime and no longer deemed sexually attractive to men.

We are sold lotion, and surgery etc as a solution to something that shouldn't be a problem.

ssd · 05/04/2022 11:46

Spot on @CounsellorTroi

Pantsomime · 05/04/2022 11:46

Go Jamie Go- well done her

DameHelena · 05/04/2022 11:49

Good for her. She looks magnificent too.

Tabitha005 · 05/04/2022 11:55

I concur! And I don't look anything like as incredible as JLC. The thought of having anything pumped into my face or invasive surgery that has no medical benefit just isn't on my radar. When I was younger and thinking ahead to middle-age I always thought I would undergo a face lift or have some kind of surgery (although I've always known I would never consider botox or collagen or any sort of cosmetic fillers - even if they seem 'less serious' than surgery).

I have a few friends who've had cosmetic treatments and a couple of them look SO unnatural - really stretched and weird. Plus, you can't keep having them indefinitely, so at some point, time is gonna catch up with you and then you just end up appearing ever more haggard because the sudden slide from smooth, wrinkle-free skin to a face that's showing many more wrinkles is so stark.

Even the friends who've had 'gentle' work done still look as though there's something 'off' about them - they use their faces in different ways after the treatments, like they're afraid it might all collapse without warning. It's like looking at a very convincing clone of someone you know really well.

This is so true @SpacePotato.

A friend of mine also said recently that she felt 'invisible' as a middle-aged woman, which is just as damaging as feeling 'gross'. She said she feels that ageing women who do step out of their invisibility are quite often seen as 'embarrassing' and I get where she's coming from.

I also really despise this idea that older women shouldn't wear clothes deemed 'too young', 'too short', 'too low cut' or any other sort of 'too... anything'. For fuck's sake, who is anyone else to say what's permissible for ANYONE to wear? That attitude pisses me right off!

SirChenjins · 05/04/2022 12:07

Well said JLC.

Can the posters on MN who talk about certain clothing being ‘granny’ or ageing, or who promote fillers and other nonsense as the only way forward when a woman starts to develop wrinkles please take note. The casual ageism on here is astounding.

MySecretHistory · 05/04/2022 12:13

Hmm. But she has has a lot of work in the past.

SirChenjins · 05/04/2022 12:18

And regrets it and has spoken out against it

Rosehugger · 05/04/2022 12:30

Well said. It makes me laugh (as well as angry) that on adverts for men's products, "ageing" is a taboo word. Obviously men don't age. They just need products to stop them looking "tired". How about not staying up half the night wanking and playing video games? That might be a start, mate.

It's a right load of boswellox.

SpacePotato · 05/04/2022 12:43

It must be especially hard in their industry though. Films use 40yo men alongside 25 to women. Men are allowed to age.

It's that whole thing that women should just disappear quietly once they hit menopause. Mostly from men but also young women who don't want to think that one day they will get to that age too.

I love seeing women my mum's age (70+) who give no fucks and wear fab clothes and have funky hair.

Fairyliz · 05/04/2022 12:53

Well I disagree. I’m similar age to JLC and I remember when she was doing the aerobics things and constantly photographed in skimpy leotards showing how hot she was.
Now it’s all about positive ageing, can’t remember her being bothered about that 30 years ago.
I call jumping on the latest bandwagon.

Bunty55 · 05/04/2022 12:54

@SirChenjins

And regrets it and has spoken out against it
While at the same time has appeared in TV adverts making money out of anti aging products
AndStand · 05/04/2022 12:55

@Fairyliz or maybe she's just changed her mind?

Iggyplop · 05/04/2022 12:56

Most women over 70 look a lot younger now.I love seeing a face with true character JLC has so much confidence too she looks fantastic.
Beauty really comes from within it's true.

AlphabetStew · 05/04/2022 13:01

@Fairyliz I think you're conflating two separate issues here. What JLC is currently talking about is ageing, what you're alluding to is more body image/body positivity related. Like someone happy to pose nearly naked and lap up the (positive) attention but then puts on some weight and decides 'stop looking at my body!'

Eeksteek · 05/04/2022 13:07

Maybe she didn’t have any role models? Aren’t people allowed to grow and realise what a shit show it is?

I’m definitely pro aging, it sure beats the alternative. I rather like getting older, it feels very empowering and I can see why so many women stop putting up with any shit!

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 05/04/2022 13:14

Aging is regarded on MN as something to be despised. Posts include the estimated age of people in a story that has no relevance at all to what the poster is relating. All those people who regard themselves as you g, there will come a time when you will be the oldies the others are talking about.

It’s not jumping on the bandwagon at all. You said it - she’s 30 years older, obviously her perspective has changed. She’s been her natural grey for years and she looks fabulous. We need all the positive role models for older women we can get.

I don't get how these two things cancel each other out at all, or why you have a problem with it. 30 years ago she was younger, and was into fitness, and had a body that reflected that. Now she's ageing, so she's into positive ageing. What's wrong with that? And it's hardly surprising she wasn't bothered about it 30 years ago. I didn't think about ageing 30 years ago either, but now I do.
LittleGwyneth · 05/04/2022 13:30

I agree entirely - though she's had a mini face and neck lift which presumably makes it easier to feel good about ageing.
