She is spot on.

To think hooray for Jamie Lee Curtis?

Isn't the latest sandra bullock movie a reverse of the usual older man younger woman? She's near 60 now? And channing alot younger is he?

SirChenjins · 05/04/2022 14:38

Similarly I hate the term 'Karen' for a woman over 40 daring to state her point of view. Why is this less valid than a young woman or a man doing the same

Absolutely agree with this. 'Karen' is nothing more than a shorthand for 'know thy place, old woman, and stfu'.

RantyAunty · 05/04/2022 14:38

I'm waiting for threads picking apart the appearance and clothing of male celebrities.

TangoWhiskyAlphaTango · 05/04/2022 14:49

@stripeyflowers

Yawn.
Anything positive to add?
KneadingKitty · 05/04/2022 14:49

I don't disagree with her, but she also isn't ageing like a haggered old witch like I am either. Haha.

Blossomtoes · 05/04/2022 14:49

@Alondra

I 100% agree with her message. I will agree even more if she wasn't using botox.
She’s not. Enlarge the picture in the first post and look at her face.
LBFseBrom · 05/04/2022 14:50

I really like and certainly agree with what she says on this issue. Ageing is great! I'd hate to go back to angst and financial problems I had when younger.

Fairislefandango · 05/04/2022 14:58

To be fair, it's easy for her to say as I'm sue she's had surgery in the past and is cushioned by wealth. She has the best personal trainers, chef and clothes.

Yes but so do the other rich and famous women her age who are constantly radically having their faces altered to look younger. I doubt it is particularly easy for her to say tbh. The temptation to keep having work done when you're getting old and your career has been so centred on your looks, and when your peers are all doing it, must be huge.

dworky · 05/04/2022 14:58

We should all be pro-ageing, the alternative is premature death.

diddl · 05/04/2022 15:00

@SpacePotato

Women are told from an early age that ageing is bad. Older women are gross. Once they are past their prime and no longer deemed sexually attractive to men.

We are sold lotion, and surgery etc as a solution to something that shouldn't be a problem.

I agree that there's a lot of stuff in magazines/social media but I think/hope that most women write that off as not real life & aren't influenced by it.

Certainly none of the people I actually know think the above.

SirChenjins · 05/04/2022 15:12

Really - none of the people (women) you know use any anti-ageing creams, or make-up, or anything of that ilk? I think that's quite unusual when you get to your 40s and beyond.

ChiefWiggumsBoy · 05/04/2022 15:15

I also really despise this idea that older women shouldn't wear clothes deemed 'too young', 'too short', 'too low cut' or any other sort of 'too... anything'. For fuck's sake, who is anyone else to say what's permissible for ANYONE to wear? That attitude pisses me right off!

It’s ok if you’re the right type of look. If you’re Kim Cattrall, or Marissa Tomei - crack on. But look at the shit Bridget Fonda got recently for having the audacity to not only live her life but to get fat doing it?!

Alondra · 05/04/2022 15:20

She's using botox in her cheeks which is what most sensible women do when they want to use fillers without changing facial structure.

DameHelena · 05/04/2022 15:21

SevenWaystoLeave, perhaps you're just misunderstanding, but you seem to misconstrue SpidersAreShitheads's post.
It doesn't say the poster thinks JLC should be 'ashamed of having a trans daughter' Confused. It clearly says 'Some of her comments throw women and biology under the bus somewhat', which is fairly clearly in specific reference to the wider shores of the trans movement where sex is ignored or denied.

SirChenjins · 05/04/2022 15:23

You have absolutely no way of knowing that - none at all.

Chakraleaf · 05/04/2022 15:32

Mumsnet generally has a fear of frumpy and being older but in RL most people ate starting to embrace it

Palloom · 05/04/2022 15:34

A good haircut/style
Minimum make up
Brightly coloured clothes (no beige)
Good trainers and comfortable shoes.

For me that is all I need to feel good. I don't care what anyone else thinks, it is what works for me. I am late 50s. No botox no surgery and Nivea cream only. LOL.

diddl · 05/04/2022 15:35

@SirChenjins

True yes I wasn't really thinking of make up & anti ageing creams.

I was thinking more of the attitude of older women being unattractive/gross& being told it from a young age.

Alondra · 05/04/2022 15:35

@SirChenjins

Of course I do, I have eyes. I just need to see her plumpt cheeks considering she's over 60.
Palloom · 05/04/2022 15:41

Meanwhile men are busy watching endless sport, down the pub, tinkering with cars, working their way up the corporate ladder. They don't shave much either now due to the beardy look.

Why should they care as much as women do about looks and wrinkles? Well I suspect most of the enhancements are done by women to attract or keep men. Looking good for yourself is the right attitude, but for someone else? Nah

SirChenjins · 05/04/2022 15:49

Of course I do, I have eyes. I just need to see her plumpt cheeks considering she's over 60

I disagree obviously, but as I said, you have no way of knowing if she uses botox, it's just your opinion.

@diddl - I see what you mean, and yes, I agree with you on the 'gross' statement. I do think that ageing (as in wrinkles and everything else that tends to go along with it) is seen as something that needs to be diminished or removed though, hence all the anti-ageing products and the industries that have sprung up to fight off the signs of ageing in a society which has become obsessed with anti-ageing.

Blossomtoes · 05/04/2022 15:50

Nope, not seeing it. She’s five years younger than me and my unbotoxed face is less wrinkled. She looks like a naturally aging mid 60s woman to me. If she has had botox she’s wasted her money.

It’s really interesting that women who have tweakments (your “sensible women” gave you away @Alondra) insist that anyone in the public eye who looks good at a certain age also has them.

Tilltheend99 · 05/04/2022 16:03

Jamie Lee is a legend and looks very good for her age.

tearinghairout · 05/04/2022 16:09

We need more celebs to rebel, but it must be hard in a place like LA where you're judged on your appearance. I am bothered by the lies we are all fed in magazine features, adverts etc, that everyone has super-white teeth and whites of eyes. Even in shadow, a face will have bright whites of the eyes. Once you look, you notice how every single photo has been altered. You get someone normal - Olivia Coleman, for example. She is normal height, normal body ratio in films, etc. But in a magazine photoshoot she looks about 6ft tall because they've made her head abnormally small. (Not her fault!) But not everyone is 6ft tall, so why the manipulation? It's skewing, or trying to, our perception of what people naturally look like.
