To ask for shows like Miranda

Life is difficult at the moment and Miranda has been getting me through it. Only problem is I'm running out of episodes. Is there anything like it out there?

Perhaps it's very unreasonable to think anything similar exists.

So much here!! Loved Grace and Frankie and their gorgeous beach house.

2 Broke Girls
Will & Grace
Both American with loads of episodes. Smartly written. Engaging actors. Basically optimistic and warm.

BackToWhereItAllBegan · 05/04/2022 01:58

Season one of Motherland had me absolutely crying with laughter, I'm jealous of anyone that hasn't seen it and now gets to watch it for the first time! (And I loved Miranda too)

EmmaH2022 · 05/04/2022 02:12

The Job Lot - an underrated show, with Sarah Hadland too!

NigellaLawdaughter · 05/04/2022 02:27

Oldies that I love:

The Good Life

Open All Hours

Mother & Son (Australia, Ruth Cracknell = brilliant!)

To the Manor Born (which you've said)

As Time Goes By (Judi Dench)

Rosemary & Thyme (silly drama, but beautiful scenery!)

A few other's I'll think or later!

(Really recommend Mother & Son)

NigellaLawdaughter · 05/04/2022 02:39

If you can access old American ones:

Home Improvement

Everybody Loves Raymond

Boston Legal

Ally McBeal (kinda nuts, but silly fun)

Gimore Girls

Desperate Housewives (also silly, but fun)

Ugly Betty (silly, but sometimes poignant)

NigellaLawdaughter · 05/04/2022 02:42

Forgot to say, also agree about Will & Grace. 👍 Smile

Dharma & Greg is also really good.

Briefly · 05/04/2022 03:13

I can't wait to try these.

Shows that make me happy include:

Parks and Rec
Ted Lasso
Jeeves and Wooster
Ab Fab
Derry Girls
Schitt's Creek
Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt
New Girl
Insecure
Vicar of Dibley
Black-ish

mamabear00 · 05/04/2022 03:36

OP YOU MUST WATCH SCHITT'S CREEK GrinSorry for shouting but it is the best comedy series I've watched. I'm jealous of anyone who's just starting it

AnaVanda · 05/04/2022 03:37

I enjoyed 'Alma's not normal' and 'The Duchess' (the series not the film)

NigellaLawdaughter · 05/04/2022 04:22

@mamabear00 Schitt's Creek has been on my list, and now it's bumped up urgent! hahaha! Smile

2nd The Job Lot and Friday Night Dinner
Peep Show.

My old go to ones are Fawlty Towers and Keeping Up Appearances

Ifyou like Miranda you might like Mrs Browns Boys..

MaryStuart · 05/04/2022 05:03

I’ll add The Detectorists

SecretVictoria · 05/04/2022 05:07

2.4 Children

Keeping up Appearances

Man About the House

George & Mildred

Open All Hours

The Good Life

phishy · 05/04/2022 05:18

Miranda (the show) has not aged well.

Gilmore Girls
Schitt’s Creek
Alien Resident
Ginny and Georgia

Cocopopsss · 05/04/2022 05:20

The IT crowd
Peep Show
Ghosts
Gavin & Stacey
Not Going Out - similar style to Miranda
That Mitchel and Webb Look. Not sure where this would be available though.

Not a comedy but has made me laugh a lot over the years, Would I Lie to You. There are episodes from the earlier series’s on YouTube and I think they are funnier than the more recent ones.

Carpy899 · 05/04/2022 06:05

The good place on Netflix is superb

RampantIvy · 05/04/2022 06:06

I binge watched Dinnerladies before Christmas and had forgotten just how clever the writing was and how funny it was.

Another couple to add to the list:
Toast of London and Toast of Tinseltown. Also Plebs.

Where can I find The Job Lot?

NigellaLawdaughter · 05/04/2022 06:17

@phishy, good to see another Gilmore Girls fan. Smile

@OP, I should have added that Rosemary & Thyme is a light mystery drama.

The scenery really is gorgeous. It is a very good, relaxing, 'no brain cells needed' show.

I was able to watch it on YouTube before it was deleted, so not sure where/how it is available. But worth it if you can find it.

Drivingmisspotty · 05/04/2022 06:18

Lots of great suggestions here. I’m going to add The Marvelous Mrs Maisel.

noideabutstilltrying · 05/04/2022 06:28

Still game is so funny! I've watched multiple times and it always makes me laugh

DriveMeCrazy1974 · 05/04/2022 06:37

We've recently been re-watching old classics such as Hi-De-Hi, Goodnight Sweetheart and Are You Being Served? Perfect to go back in time and forget about how things are at the moment.
Also, we recently re-watched Cheers and Fraiser - both absolutely fantastic.

GottaLoveTheCold · 05/04/2022 06:41

Game Face. Single woman in London, cosy and laugh out loud funny. It has all the right elements of MIRANDA and is Rosin Conaty’s comedy. I loved it so much in lockdown.

Polyanthus2 · 05/04/2022 07:01

Frayed first series is v funny imv set in Australia (could be Australian production, I'm not sure)
We watched an episode of Kath and Kim the other night in desperation to find something light.
Mum with Lesley Manville and Peter Mullen was great but not sure where you can find it.
The Cockfields is funny has Sue Johnson in a main part.
My two favourites are Black Books and Peepshow (seems to also be called peephole online) with David Mitchell and Robert Webb. Lots of sexual innuendo, some bedroom scenes (usually ending in failure) very rude. But v funny.
