Porn star martini Pizza Express

Why are Pizza Express advertising 'Porn Star Martinis' on every table at their restaurants? AIBU to find this disgusting for a family restaurant? I don't really wish to explain to my 6 year old what it is.

Remember when there was all that fuss a few years ago about M&S selling it in tin cans? It was seen as unsuitable for a family shop as it is normalising pornography, and I tend to agree. The same would apply to a family restaurant, so Pizza Express. Also, I noticed Marstons has this on their menu as I was looking at the menu online before I went there last week. I was going to complain, but as I didn't see it on the menu when I got there I forgot about it.

user1471443411 · 31/03/2022 19:53

M&S had to start calling them Passionstar martinis instead, but they doubled down on it for a while before they changed their mind.

NurseBernard · 31/03/2022 19:57

Or maybe people are just able to understand that the name of a drink that is 20 years old has absolutely fuck all to do with normalising anything.

Except - porn has been completely normalised in the last 20 years….?

And you’ve got to be hard of thinking if you can’t see that cocktails named thus don’t have something to do with the complete normalisation of porn.

In fact, a ‘porn star martini’ in Pizza Express is the epitome of it having been so normalised, people don’t even see the issue.

Confused
Thewindwhispers · 31/03/2022 20:05

It isn’t just about the kids.

I hate porn. I hate that it exists, I hate how it exploits women, I hate how it normalises violence against women, I hate that it promotes extreme fetishes, and I hate that children are exposed to it.

And I would really, really, like to be able to sit down and eat a pizza without seeing the word “porn” with all the automatic thoughts that provokes.

In case Pizza Express are wondering for their future table advert choices, I also prefer to eat without seeing the words rape, mutilation, and references to FGM.

EdenFlower · 31/03/2022 20:06

YANBU! They could just call it a Passion Fruit Martini!

Butitsnotfunnyisititsserious · 31/03/2022 20:11

@CapMarvel

What's to discuss?

"Mummy, what's a pornstar martini?"

"It's the name of a drink".

Job done.

Damn my finger slipped!

I meant to say 'this' My child wouldn't notice and if he did, I'd just say a drink. I worry how many peoples children would press them to tell them what a pornstar is tbh. My child would just accept it's the name for a drink.

Whatalovelydaffodil · 31/03/2022 20:12

@Oblomov22

It's a cocktail name. I too don't have a problem with it.
What kind of cocktail name would you have a problem with ? Or is any name ok because"it's a cocktail"?
JudgeJ · 31/03/2022 20:13

@BrightOrangeOrange

spotted cock

Grin

God forbid anywhere serves spatchcock chicken!
Ilostit · 31/03/2022 20:14

Has anyone seen it at all? As in have a photo of it?

SeagullSong · 31/03/2022 20:17

Agree this is unnecessary, the superficial discomfort alone should be enough for someone in their marketing team to veto this, besides the very valid deeper concerns raised by PP. My 6 year old would definitely be reading it out loud and asking questions. Can also imagine being a 12 year old sitting there with my parents just mortified with that word on display.

What’s a pornstar Martini mum?

A drink love

End of conversation 😂😂😂

Well yeah, if you have an exceptionally dull-headed kid.*

I thought this.

JassyRadlett · 31/03/2022 20:22

Yes there's one upthread. Taken by a friend of mine who was also a bit annoyed. I saw it last week when I took my kids after swimming.

I'd love to have these magical Mumsnet kids who are so easily fobbed off.

Lockheart · 31/03/2022 20:22

Don't give your child the cocktail menu then. They're hardly going to be ordering from it.

Chely · 31/03/2022 20:24

@hedgehogtoes I have watched documentaries about the porn industry with my 16 year old daughter. I think she does need to be aware or the dark side of that. Cocktails having these sex related names is a non issue for me, it's just a fucking drink.

It's OK if they're just part of the name of a cocktail, didn't you know? Anything goes then Hmm

@BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz

They probably sell a Sex on the Beach too.
Sex is fine. DD knows all about sex.

Porn with its rape, coercion, effect on relationships and general shitness, I'd rather wait.

Yeah. That's not the issue though, is it?

It's the big tabletop advert on every table.

WTF475878237NC · 31/03/2022 20:27

Sex trafficking on the beach anyone?

Morfil · 31/03/2022 20:27

But it isn’t just on the cocktail menu - there are full-page advertisements on promotional flyers on each table.

Loubylooooo · 31/03/2022 20:27

Sex on the beach is a classic cocktail but I don’t think they’d plaster that all over a family restaurant. Or what about the ‘long hard screw’ one?

Whatalovelydaffodil · 31/03/2022 20:31

Why does that worry you?
Whatalovelydaffodil · 31/03/2022 20:35

@HumptyDumpty2022

How on earth would you cope with Spotted Dick on the menu or Bangers and Mash or Cream Pie! Sorry but you’re being one of those mums, he’ll hear much worse at school soon.
So that makes it ok? Because,,"he'll hear much worse soon"? So what's the worst thing he could hear? Would the second worst be ok because it's not the worst? What a strange way to think.
LuluBlakey1 · 31/03/2022 20:36

I wouldn't buy one ever and I certainly wouldn't go to Pizza Express again.
