Porn star martini Pizza Express

Why are Pizza Express advertising 'Porn Star Martinis' on every table at their restaurants? AIBU to find this disgusting for a family restaurant? I don't really wish to explain to my 6 year old what it is.

So if your dc does accept that it's just "the name of a drink" what's to stop them asking for one on their next play date?

Lots of "family" restaurants call it a Porn Star Martini. I know Frankiie and Bennys and Miller and Carter do I've had them there recently

@Silverclocks - exactly what I said! Where I live there’s at least 6 or more family restaurants. All call the drink a Pornstar Martini on their drinks menu as that’s what the name of it is. They’re hardly likely to change their menu because some mums are paranoid about little Johnny reading it on a drinks menu. And lots of drinkers like the drink and name and don’t have a problem with the name.

I hate the porn and sex exploitation industry but even I can see it’s just a name of a cocktail.

Maybe it’s your opener to discuss the evils of porn and instill an early hatred. I think some people in this thread need real problems to worry about instead of looking for issues where they don’t exist.

Just do a virgin one. Maybe it's because my kids have grown up in bars and pubs but they have had mock tails when we're and visiting friends.

I love a Pornstar Martini but agree there’s probably a better name for it on a menu at a family restaurant. I’ve been to loads of places where they call them Passionfruit Martinis.

@Normando91 - Pizza Express are trying to build business back up after the pandemic which includes women (and men) being a bit naughty/risqué by having a cocktail with a cheeky name. They’re not actually encouraging women to be porn stars or even minimising the porn industry from what I can see but I do think maybe in a family restaurant chain it’s a bit of a risky PR campaign to have the leaflets on every table. And I pointed out Ask and Zizzi don’t have the cocktail with this name. But I think Pizza Express are thinking that having this campaign is a risk worth taking and using the proper name with more adults buying the drinks as opposed to more parents buying their kids pizzas.

Well I think it's inappropriate your 6 year old is reading the cocktail menu, but each to their own!

@Gonnagetgoing but the issue in this particular case is that it’s not “just” on the drinks menu - PE are actively promoting the drink with flyers around the restaurant - another poster put a picture of the advertising material up on this thread at 18:24.

@CaveMum - but as I stated above what’s wrong with that? The Pizza Express franchise obviously want to capitalise on the ladies who lunch/bottomless lunch crowd with this campaign as opposed to the parents with kids. Probably because the former will spend more money.

Yes, sometimes you want to go out without the kids and it's nice to have the choice of a cocktail menu.
Not sure why a kid would be reading the cocktail menu anyway, mine would be far more interested in what pizza to have than boring shit - - in their eyes - - like the cocktail menu!

I actually don’t think it’s the best advert for the chain as they are quite family but i don’t think it’s the worst in the world.

Seems it's quite a complicated distinction for some, however many times it's hammered out.

I have a different moan about PE (saw the pornstar ad quite fancied one but didn't) i ordered the leggera pizza, came up with a pile of rocket, literally no other salad,a dribble of dressing but worst of all, they have reduced the size of the leggera so when you pick the rocket up there is a big hole underneath! Not the usual hole in the middle - a massive hole with just a rim of pizza round the edge!!! Same bloody price though...

It’s a curious choice but I certainly can’t bring myself to be outraged by it.
