My 16 year old has been a HUGH HP fan since she was old enough to read the books and watch the films, she watched the reunion,I didn't as I do not agree with how JKR has been treated for speaking up about her views which I share.Dd has wanted to go for years and because she has worked so very hard for her GCSE exams i thought I'd treat her,but morally i feel like a turn coat.
Yabu- you should boycott all things HP
Yanbu- it's for your Dd and she'd love it

I think you're overthinking this one. Your daughter would love to go - so go.

Warner Bros aren't going to care either way. Don't cut your nose off to spite your face.

(It's awesome btw)

NancyDrawed · 31/03/2022 12:11

I agree with you that Warner Bros have not treated JKR well, to the point where it was a (pleasant) surprise to see her name on the trailer for the knew film - albeit briefly.

My advice would be to go with your DD and have a fantastic time. I have been twice with children younger than that and would love to go a third time and really take my time to appreciate every last bit of the exhibits.

AlisonDonut · 31/03/2022 12:17

I think you should stop overthinking things as you plainly have an issue making sense in your own head, let alone asking an AIBU.

Go. Don't go. Whatever.

LatinforTelly · 31/03/2022 12:18

@SirSamVimesCityWatch

Warner Bros haven't publicly supported JKR in terms of a tweet, but they continue to work with her and have read that she has them by the short and curlies in terms of all her contracts, so I wouldn't worry about it.
Yes I'm sure I read back in the day, she/her laywers wrote in that they couldn't do ANYTHING Harry Potter related without her. Ie they couldn't devise new films/characters etc; she has to be involved with all of it.
TulipsGarden · 31/03/2022 12:20

Silly to cut your nose off to spite your face. JK Rowling has made and continues to make lots of money from HP films, and the studio tour is part of that. She's hugely philanthropic and of course a very sensible woman. Warner Bros are trying to avoid the trans furore and protect their brand - it's cowardly, but expected. C

Continue to enjoy her work and speak up when people criticise her.

Holskey · 31/03/2022 12:20

This choice is meaningless. Yabu for suggesting you should boycott anything HP

Everanewbie · 31/03/2022 12:21

Don't let your daughter miss out based on this. I strongly agree with your feelings here. But JKR won't get anything out of a boycott, and WB will just have someone else go in your place. And WB don't really care about whats right, they're trying to be seen to be reflecting the popular mood (but actually reflecting the mood of a very small sub-set of the twitter warrior brigade)

burnoutbabe · 31/03/2022 12:23

only thing i'd avoid was that reinion show as it has the nasty actors in who slagged her off and really didn't include her. that felt like a massive kick in the teeth.

Glad the new movie doesn't have JD in now, but thats a separate issue.

Notwithittoday · 31/03/2022 12:32

Take her! It’s a great day out!

Comvit · 31/03/2022 12:38

Go. Wear this Joking kind of

changingstages · 31/03/2022 12:39

this is a bit mad - I come from the opposite side of the debate here in that I very much do not stand by JKR but my daughter loves the films - and movie making in general - so I took her for her birthday and we had a great day out. I wasn't super comfortable with my money going to her but if you're interested in films it's a really brilliant attraction so I got over myself and we had a very good time. So you can comfort yourself with the idea that she's probably getting a shit ton of money from the whole thing.

FreddieStandensBFF · 31/03/2022 12:40

How have Warner Brothers not stood by her? She was at the Fantastic Beasts Premiere on Tuesday.

Well, it is her creation! She's allowed to make shit tons of money from it.

And so she bloody should! Without her, HP wouldn’t exist!

Glad you did and had fun.

But if you think JKR is offensive, I assume you've got Roald Dahl banned from your house as well. I know he's dead but do you want to support the work and continuing estate of an overt antisemite who said things about Jewish people that JKR wouldn't dream of saying about anyone?

VickyEadieofThigh · 31/03/2022 12:48

@Darkstar4855

Am I missing something, why would you boycott her work if you agree with her?
My thoughts exactly.
ATeamAmy · 31/03/2022 12:51

Get yourself an Adult Human Female or I Heart JKR T-shirt and wear it while you walk around the HP studios. That'll be your two fingers up to Warner Bros.

ChristinaXYZ · 31/03/2022 12:52

Exactly. You'd be a turncoat for not going to hP world. That's what the anti-JKRs would do.
PurpleFlower1983 · 31/03/2022 13:01

She’s still making millions from it so I wouldn’t worry.

moofolk · 31/03/2022 13:02

Just go. You are over thinking it.

Kanaloa · 31/03/2022 13:03

Still money in her pocket, isn’t it? And I know Warner brothers might not have supported her openly but she’s still involved in the newest film, so when it comes to supporting her work/money they’re obviously not boycotting her.

I also didn’t watch the ‘reunion’ but more because it looked deathly dull. I mean, I’ve seen all the films, why would I want to see people talk about the films for an hour?

Waspie · 31/03/2022 13:03

We went to HP world recently and there is loads about JKR there - she's certainly not been expunged from the studio tour. The staff speak about her as a God - at least the ones I spoke to Smile

Kanaloa · 31/03/2022 13:04

Can’t comment on how good HPW is though as we’ve not been! I’d love to go and ds11 and dd10 would love love it but the two little ones wouldn’t really get it. It’s meant to be really good though.

Everydaydayisaschoolday · 31/03/2022 13:06

By not going to anything HP themed you are effectively cancelling JKR. Show you support her by supporting her work.

TortugaRumCakeQueen · 31/03/2022 13:07

@use257

I must be missing something but why would you boycott Happy Potter if you love JKR?
I thought the exact same. Confused
