My 16 year old has been a HUGH HP fan since she was old enough to read the books and watch the films, she watched the reunion,I didn't as I do not agree with how JKR has been treated for speaking up about her views which I share.Dd has wanted to go for years and because she has worked so very hard for her GCSE exams i thought I'd treat her,but morally i feel like a turn coat.
Yabu- you should boycott all things HP
Yanbu- it's for your Dd and she'd love it

A quick google tells me JKR makes money from tickets bought for the studio tours as well as all HP merch so go with a clear conscious and buy lots of butter beer.

RoomOfRequirement · 31/03/2022 11:35

I think you have it wrong. It's the misogynists who DON'T support JKR that are boycotting her and HP. I am buying and seeing and visiting everything I can because the way she is being treated is horrific.

babyjellyfish · 31/03/2022 11:37

I sort of get it, after the way Warner Bros have thrown JKR under the bus.

But boycotting all things Harry Potter is actually what the trans activists want, so I'd say anything that shows how much people still love it is a positive thing.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 31/03/2022 11:37

Despite some crazies trying to claim that Harry Potter should have nothing to do with her... she is still the creator and gets royalties.

And the work her charity does is inspirational. I'd have a lot more respect for certain actors if they were as philanthropic instead of making wishy washy statements

NewbieDivergent · 31/03/2022 11:38

Sorry meant because of WBros as they haven't stood by her.

I am totally confused by this OP. But presumably not as confused as the OP herself if she thinks that you boycott someone you agree with!

CloseYourEyesAndSee · 31/03/2022 11:41

Why would you boycott HP in SUPPORT of JK? Bonkers.

Londono · 31/03/2022 11:41

I went into an official Harry Potter store and a (male) sales assistant was audibly slagging JK off, I told him that he was quite happy to make money off the back of her work so perhaps if he felt so strongly he should find a new job. He said 'perhaps I should' and I put down the things I was going to purchase and I left.

But you should go! JK uses her well earned riches to support those less fortunate so I would consider it money well spent

NdefH81 · 31/03/2022 11:42

What does your daughter think? Does she want to go or not?

TabithaHazel · 31/03/2022 11:44

This makes no sense, I doubt the Harry Potter actors who turned on JKR get any profit from the studio tour, but as the creator she definitely will so by going you are supporting her. Unless I've missed something?

sparepantsandtoothbrush · 31/03/2022 11:45

As everyone else others have said, you'll be supporting JKR if you go. DD and I have been more than once as we're HP obsessed. In fact we're going again later this year 😁 Your DD will love it

@NearlyHeadlessNick great username 😉

HopefulProcrastinator · 31/03/2022 11:46

@NewbieDivergent

Sorry meant because of WBros as they haven't stood by her.
They may not have stood with her, but they can't sever the business relationship they have with her because of some nutters on Twitter.

Every single thing that WB monetises from HP and linked content JKR gets royalties which she consistently puts to good use.

Boycotting HP studio tour does not benefit JKR.

NewbieDivergent · 31/03/2022 11:48

Yes so sorry, worded so wrong,my issue is with Warner Bros owning the Studio tour. Should have said boycott all things Warner.I also refuse to watch any films now with the stars who she made famous and now vilify her.

What does your daughter think??

girlmom21 · 31/03/2022 11:53

I'm sure she's grateful for your loyalty but would prefer your money

SirSamVimesCityWatch · 31/03/2022 11:54

Warner Bros haven't publicly supported JKR in terms of a tweet, but they continue to work with her and have read that she has them by the short and curlies in terms of all her contracts, so I wouldn't worry about it.

ickky · 31/03/2022 11:59

I can see where you are coming from, but JKR gets a cut from all things relating to the HP franchise. So I would go and enjoy it.

Also please remember there is a new Hogwarts Game (PS4, PS5 and XBOX) coming out this year that looks really good, if anyone wants to show support. Grin

Branleuse · 31/03/2022 12:01

I would go. I think it would be great fun

DrSbaitso · 31/03/2022 12:03

The more HP goods and services are sold, the stronger the message to WB that people either agree with JKR, or at the very least don't agree with cancelling her.

And JKR was at the premiere of Secrets of Dumbledore, distributed by WB, so she is clearly fine with it.

Go. It's a great day out. And donate to Lumos.

VapeVamp12 · 31/03/2022 12:03

I really can't stand the fact she wasn't involved in the reunion show. Also that the main actors have actually spoken out in support of a few activists and against the person who created the stories which catapulted their careers.

Although my young adult SS and DIL have both boycotted HP (even though DIL in particular was a huge fan) - she pointed me in a direction of JKR "transphobic" essay on her website, but when I read it it was the opposite of transphobic. I really don't understand how her comments have been taken so badly.

DrSbaitso · 31/03/2022 12:04

Hell, she co-wrote the screenplay.

PigeonLittle · 31/03/2022 12:04

I think living well is best. Don't boycott JKR and associated franchises - that's what they want! Enjoy Harry Potter and continue to do so - it will really piss them off.

zingally · 31/03/2022 12:04

This makes no sense...

JK makes money from Harry Potter! You'd be supporting her by going!

AlwaysLatte · 31/03/2022 12:04

Don't put all this onto your daughter. Just take her if she wants to go!

Futuroute · 31/03/2022 12:05

If she's 16, could she go in on her own? You could take her there and collect her when she comes out.
