Today is last day before prices go up. So if you don’t have a smart or pre pay meter remember to do readings and submit them today. As late as possible :)

I did mine last night as I guessed the sites would all be down today.

Octopus are advising people to take photos and they'll accept this. Their prices are changed at 00.00 Saturday today is still a bit early.

Scottish Power - down all day - said 'use our app' - downloaded the app - got activation email - which takes you to your account - which you can't access as site is down!

However they are now saying you can give today's reading any time in the next 10 days - so no hurry

I've been trying to phone in my readings to SSE/OVO for ages. Keep getting the message that their lines are closed for staff updates. How convenient for them!

What gamble? I don’t understand you submit the numbers, doesn’t matter when you do it if you have photoproof. Octopus you input your reading and the day you took the reading

I'll switch everything off and take photos of metres at 21.59 hrs

@OnlyFoolsnMothers, thanks for apologising but I hadn't taken offence. There were reminders on the news and similar to take the readings today, so people being like they are, there was bound to be a panic.

(cf. stockpiling bogroll in first lockdown, everyone rushing to fill petrol tank etc)

On R4 one of the suppliers was saying that they normally get a couple of thousand meter readings a day but today they had had 40,000 before the system crashed.

I just tried but couldn’t get on shell. But usually their estimate is over. So I guess when I get my bill it’s likely my actual will be less than their estimate so best to stick with that right?

If you’ve got a smart metre or you’re on a fixed rate you don’t need to take a reading Mouse

Thanks for this - I'm still on a price fix so I don't have an urgent need to submit a reading, but the British Gas account pages are so, so shit, and I rarely log in without finding at least one element is not available.

You do need your gas and electric account numbers though, which you can only get by logging in! Unless you have them written down somewhere.

However. I JUST GOT IN AND SUBMITTED MY READINGS WOO HOO! (British gas!)

I tried about 6 or 7 times in half an hour (between 11 and half past tonight,) and FINALLY got the 'enter your meter reading' (with the empty boxes to fill in.) Did the gas, and then the electric a half a minute after.

I was worried I would submit GAS and then the site would fail, but it allowed me to put the electric in as well. FINALLY! And I did it on the 31st too!

Mine is blank since then too, I find it infuriating as I like to keep an eye on usage. The link between their apps/website and smart meters are incredibly poor, it shouldn't be taking them this long to fix it
