Today is last day before prices go up. So if you don’t have a smart or pre pay meter remember to do readings and submit them today. As late as possible :)

Sorry that's talking about deliberately giving an incorrect reading, not accidentally transposing the numbers

KatherineJaneway · 31/03/2022 16:57

My company said the website is busy so no chance currently of giving a reading

AllOfUsAreDead · 31/03/2022 16:57

it means the usage since your last meter reading in early March will be charged at the new April rates.

I'm still getting charged on April rates even though I submitted meter readings the other day. My bill doubled at least.

BookkeeperBobby · 31/03/2022 16:58

I don't misunderstand. I just think it's fair fucks if people want to do it. No one is helping out ordinary people. Of course they're going to try and help themselves.

That's not what you said though? You said people would be giving them extra money. You misunderstood the point completely.

BookkeeperBobby · 31/03/2022 17:00

Of course deliberately submitting incorrect readings is fraudulent

Yes. It would be really difficult to prove that someone didn't just misread/transpose numbers though wouldn't it.

MardyMandy · 31/03/2022 17:00

My mil is disabled and isn't online, not even a mobile so I have her account online with my mobile number and I pay her bills. She is unable to read her meters and she's 200 miles away so I can't do it. There's nobody to ask to do it. Does anyone know how that'll be dealt with?

She is not being asked to read her meter so there isn't t anything to be dealt with.

I got a text from BG this morning asking for a meter reading.

BookkeeperBobby · 31/03/2022 17:02

@ididntevennotice if a person submits a meter reading that is higher than the actual meter reading they'll pay extra because the company will bill them based on the too-high reading. So they'll be paying extra.

Zazdar · 31/03/2022 17:02

Octopus is crashing. It says you can send in time stamped photos but my Galaxy s8 doesnt have that option in its settings

Octopus variable rates don’t increase until midnight Saturday. You have more than two days more to enter readings.

Sunbird24 · 31/03/2022 17:03

I didn’t need to, a meter reader has been all along my road…

SoupDragon · 31/03/2022 17:03

Yes. It would be really difficult to prove that someone didn't just misread/transpose numbers though wouldn't it.

Does that somehow make it less fraudulent?

No.

We get it. You think fraud is fine.

Yes but they will bill those units at the cheaper rate, which ends today. Nobody is going to be paying extra in that situation. They will pay less because they won't use the units until after the price increase, but will have paid the cheaper rate.

Proudplantowner · 31/03/2022 17:05

EDF have got an online form that you can fill in with your meter readings, in case anyone was struggling earlier.

BookkeeperBobby · 31/03/2022 17:06

I think people doing what they need to keep their houses warm, run their fridges and switch on lights in the teeth of unprecedented price hikes that their government is doing fuck all about is fine, yes.

Oh sorry I didn't realise.

In that case, I’ll just pop down the post office and rob it.

Also, you don't understand.

caringcarer · 31/03/2022 17:08

Thanks for reminder.

BookkeeperBobby · 31/03/2022 17:10

I think robbing a post office is a bit more societally problematic but appreciate your moral compass may vary.

MardyMandy · 31/03/2022 17:14

Oh sorry I didn't realise

Fair do's. I didn't say.

BookkeeperBobby · 31/03/2022 17:20

@MardyMandy depending on what plan she's on and when you last submitted a reading it may not be a problem. If she's on a fix that takes her over 1 April she'll continue on that tariff until it comes to an end.

If she's on a variable tariff that will go up when the company applies the new price cap. For most of them that's tomorrow although some are rolling it out across the next few days. They will estimate what she's used between the last meter reading and when the new rate comes in. That usage will be used to either adjust direct debit or issue quarterly bill. If you submitted a reading fairly recently hopefully their calculation will be accurate.

If not, and you feel that the next quarterly bill or proposed new direct debit doesn't accurately reflect usage, you can get in touch with them.

bellabasset · 31/03/2022 17:53

BG's smart meters are correctly taking meter readings. However it's not been able to update the My Energy section of their online account information. If you're in the situation I'm in where my fixed tariff ends today but the annual plan paid by monthly dd ends later in the year it's damned annoying as you (a) only get a bill every 6 months and (b) it keeps telling you that at the end of your plan you'll owe £240. I'm not increasing my dd, my intention is to each month pay a separate sum to cover any shortfall based on my usage costs. I 'm hoping that the £150 rates rebate will cover the increase in my summer costs.

If you need to take a physical reading also take a photo of the meter showing the meter no.

MardyMandy · 31/03/2022 17:56

BookkeeperBobby

Thanks. I took a m/r early March when I visited. Thanks for info.
