Today is last day before prices go up. So if you don’t have a smart or pre pay meter remember to do readings and submit them today. As late as possible :)

OP posts:
FatOaf · 31/03/2022 13:17

Did it yesterday, as it was so obvious all suppliers' web sites would be overloaded today.

FairFuming · 31/03/2022 13:57

This is possibly a stupid question but do I need to take a photo if I'm on a prepaid meter?

ThinWomansBrain · 31/03/2022 14:03

thanks for the reminder @travis1
I did it a while ago and intended to start doing it every month (but didn't) Grin
they were interviewing someone on radio 4 a bit earlier who said they'd accept readings over the next few days, particularly if sites are down, and expected most energy companies would.

I tried to submit mine a few minutes ago and the site (SSE) was unavailable initially - got into it a couple of minutes later when I tried again.

No. Smile
Andante57 · 31/03/2022 15:38

I’m also having problems sending my gas meter reading. The website either says bad gateway or it won’t load.

MurmuratingStarling · 31/03/2022 16:16

Has anyone actually managed to submit their reading yet on the

British Gas? STILL cannot get in. Though, as I said, I only submitted my last reading 3 weeks ago, so I am not too worried... It's very irksome though.

msc6199 · 31/03/2022 16:23

British Gas still down

MurmuratingStarling · 31/03/2022 16:23

@msc6199

British Gas still down
Yeah it is. Ridiculous! Hmm
MurmuratingStarling · 31/03/2022 16:25

It's almost like they don't WANT people to get online and submit their meter reading today. Hmm

BookkeeperBobby · 31/03/2022 16:28

Millions of people who have never before cared about what energy tariff they're on, accurate billing or saving energy are losing their minds because the price is going up.

It's going up quite a lot though!

These bastards are fucking us over. Of course people are trying to mitigate it in whatever little way they can given that no one is helping us in any substantial way.

ididntevennotice · 31/03/2022 16:29

@MurmuratingStarling

It's almost like they don't WANT people to get online and submit their meter reading today. Hmm

Or maybe the sites just can't handle the huge demand, which was created by third parties?

Chely · 31/03/2022 16:29

But don't add any extra on because that is fraud and all the companies will be sending folk out to check yours tomorrow.

We have a smart meter so couldn't swindle them if I wanted to.

BookkeeperBobby · 31/03/2022 16:30

Yes it is fraud to give them extra money now, but it's not fraud if you give them extra money after tomorrow. 🤬

MurmuratingStarling · 31/03/2022 16:31

@ididntevennotice

Yes of COURSE it's that. Hmm Nothing whatsoever to do with them not wanting people to submit their meter readings. Hmm The Energy companies don't EVER have the best interests of their customers at heart, why the hell would they start now?

Abraxan · 31/03/2022 16:32

@Zeldaaa

It seems that despite the providers being aware that their sites would be inundated with people trying to submit meter readings they haven’t ensured that they could deal with the increase in traffic.

No joy submitted a meter reading (British Gas). Managed to login but meter reading functionality not working.

Yes, EON website is saying experiencing high levels of traffic and won't let me on. Very annoying that you can't actually do what they have told you you should do!
MurmuratingStarling · 31/03/2022 16:32

Why would people add any on/exaggerate their reading? How would that save them money? I know people have been suggesting this (even though it's fraud apparently,) and I don't get it.
ouch321 · 31/03/2022 16:36

Octopus is crashing. It says you can send in time stamped photos but my Galaxy s8 doesnt have that option in its settings

Grr

If people say they have used more then they have it will be charged at the cheaper rate.

Chely · 31/03/2022 16:39

@murmuratingstarling pay for units you are going to use later at a cheaper rate.

MurmuratingStarling · 31/03/2022 16:41

Oh I get it now. Thanks Smile Yeah it IS fraud isn't it?

SoupDragon · 31/03/2022 16:49

I managed to get onto the Eon website and do mine but it took lots of refreshing and logging in.

BookkeeperBobby · 31/03/2022 16:49

Funny kind of fraud when you're giving folks extra money.

Anyway, it's just misreading the numbers or transposing them or whatever. Not like customers are spearing their meters with coat hangers.

Noisyprat · 31/03/2022 16:52

If you can't send it via the meter reading part of your account then send an email to customer device especially if you can't do a date/time stamp.

ididntevennotice · 31/03/2022 16:55

I think you misunderstand. The thought behind faking the meter reading is you you tell them today you have used more then you have, so all the usage up until now, including the fake usage, is charged at the lower rate.

You aren't giving them extra money, you are pretending you've used more cheap electricity/gas rather than on the new, more expensive tariff. Of course deliberately submitting incorrect readings is fraudulent.
