So in addition to the likes of 'reach out', 'align'; 'ducks in a row', 'going forward' etc etc etc...we now have 'work stack' instead of workload.

Losing the will to live.

Ps no AIBU. The use of 'work stack' is unreasonable.

Apparently instead of telling someone what was said at a meeting it’s now a ‘readout’ of the meeting. Why??

SockFluffInTheBath · 30/03/2022 22:45

On my PGCE we were told to use ‘pop’ as a non-confrontational option eg ‘can you pop your gum in the bin please?’. Seems to have proliferated in recent times.

MiladyBerserko · 30/03/2022 22:45

'Reach out' is very cringe, especially when you hear new grad recruits using it. It's like collective corporate grooming.

I prefer to say I will schedule a meeting to discuss, or (gasp) call someone

Nomoresmoresthensnores · 30/03/2022 22:48

I'm in a 'hug a tree' kinda industry (see that dates me immediately)
Constantly being told to 'take a mindful walk" or 'slow the pace' and 'refresh and recharge'.
They never actually take any work off us so we can do this though. I'd just spend my time walking round the windswept Park worrying that I needed to be back to finish something for a deadline.
We also had a 'low contact' week where we were supposed to think twice about emailing anyone.
No bugger told the clients. And we had about 20 emails from managers telling us about low contact week Confused

Town Hall ~ company meeting
Hard stop ~ meeting must end at 3pm as I’m so busy
Open House ~ as long as you agree

Can’t wait to leave all this behind in a job I used to love

boys3 · 30/03/2022 22:51

@gracedentssketty

My boss uses cascade, link in and pull through a lot. Pisses me right off
sounds like you've got a real thought leader there; just be careful you don't get sucked into his lower tier vortex
PaperTyger · 30/03/2022 22:54

"stepping up" said with a straight face...

ladygoingGaga · 30/03/2022 22:55

This thread was the perfect antidote to a crappy day at work, thank you OP.

Loving the ducks mug, Grin shamelessly stealing that line.

Recently I heard a colleague refer to ‘moving our assets around’ he was talking about bloody people Shock

Moodlesofnoodles · 30/03/2022 22:57

"Lived experience" is the worst. Plus "reach out" and "making memories".

YouOKHun · 30/03/2022 22:57

@Blea

WHat's wring with gaunt forward? What would people use instead? Sounds too vague and distant. Going forward means just 'from here on' but flows better?
I was just about to say “FFS that’s another ridiculous one. What does “wring with gaunt forward” actually mean?? Then I realised @Blea that you’ve just got one of those keyboards with the keys in the wrong place Grin. Not that it makes any less sense than all the others!
MiladyBerserko · 30/03/2022 23:03

Yes we have regular 'wellbeing' sessions. You'd have to be a fool to provide anything other than 'zany' or 'fun', 'constructive' comments on those sessions.

JessicaBrassica · 30/03/2022 23:04

Is stack better than heap or pile? I have a literal heap/stack/pile of paperwork waiting to be transformed into a series of reports.

This used to be on the wall in my office.

'Incentivize' is one of the worst! Also 'delivering' everything, 'blue skies thinking', 'operationalize', and of course 'thinking outside the box'- so cliche'd that it's in a box.

MiladyBerserko · 30/03/2022 23:07

All of these things mean 'things to do'

Same as scrum, daily standup etc mean 'meeting'

MiladyBerserko · 30/03/2022 23:08

I'LL BE THERE......

GreenTeaPingPong · 30/03/2022 23:09

Yes!! What is the difference between lived experience and mere experience - I'd love someone to tell me. How is it possible to have experience of something without being alive at the time?
TheFoldOx · 30/03/2022 23:10

I saw this on some website or other several years ago and it made me smile then. The idea was to write complete nonsense on a flipchart or whiteboard in a meeting room and leave it there for people in the next meeting to puzzle over.

Fuck me just reading these is making me feel stabby. Thank fuck I gave up working in offices in 2004.

GreenTeaPingPong · 30/03/2022 23:11

And yes, in my new job we have a weekly 'huddle'. When I first saw that in the calendar I thought it was some kind of joke.

ddl1 · 30/03/2022 23:16

@JuteWeaver

How I miss the 80s. No acronyms and none of this naff corporate speak.
Maybe less than now, but it definitely existed even then. We were already thinking out of the box continually. And everything was 'upward'. Onward and upward! Especially if you were upwardly mobile. And I think that's when they started with all the euphemisms for sacking people- 'downsizing' and the like.
CowboyFromHell · 30/03/2022 23:21

I love that @TheFoldOx To be fair it makes a hell of a lot more sense than the Miro board I was forced to create in a team meeting last week.

Taytocrisps · 30/03/2022 23:21

Remember when mission statements were all the rage?

Lottle · 30/03/2022 23:23

I'm going to have to keep a watching brief on all this
