Jamie Wallis, The Conservative MP for Bridgend has come out as Britain's first Trans MP, having been diagnosed with Gender Dysphoria.

This is really big news on its own. However Jamie's statement contained lots of other things as well. He was being blackmailed, his blackmailer is in prison. He recently suffered rape.Sad He has PTSD from the rape which caused him to leave the scene of an accident last year, where he crashed his car.

AIBU to feel a bit discombobulated at Jamie Wallis' statement?Confused There is so much information.ConfusedConfusedConfused

@poshme

I feel very sad for his wife (ex-wife?) and kids. He's openly talking about meeting men for hookups.
This — he has young children aged about nine and six; is he still married? Poor family. Poor kids Sad

Not a pimp but decidedly iffy

If you take money for introducing women to men for the purposes of sex, how is that not pimping? I'm not suggesting he has done anything criminal, but he has received money through the sexual exploitation of women.

Cwenthryth · 31/03/2022 08:41

Reading further links on the bbc he was also director of “Quickie Divorce Ltd”!!! Resigned shortly before being elected.

He’s not coming across as massively respectful of women.

oldwhyno · 31/03/2022 08:43

I’m too old for this bullshit. I don’t buy it.

He’s a wrong’un.

SueSaid · 31/03/2022 08:45

'I don’t think him wanting to identify as trans (that is how he phrased it) should overshadow the facts that he was involved in a hit and run, that he encouraged young students into prostitution (he co-owned a ‘sugar daddy’ website and that he lied to the press/public about it.'

This.

I don't understand all the 'well done to our brave colleague for their statement' in the HOC.

Honestly his statement seemed a pity fest (I've sympathy for the rape obviously) but the rest? Just seemed a load of poor me.

Why on earth say it all publicly.

Whatiswrongwithmyknee · 31/03/2022 08:45

Well in terms of trans, there's more than one way to be trans. If he is the variety that realises his identity does not confer entitlement to enter female spaces, not too worrying. If he's the other sort then we really should not accept yet another male supremacist in politics.

ClaudineClare · 31/03/2022 08:47

I have got to be honest, I have some serious misgivings about his motivations.Time will tell, I guess.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 31/03/2022 08:49

I'm sure if he is the first and he's not going to do anything for "trans rights" the TRAs won't be so keen to validate him.

OutsideVoice · 31/03/2022 08:52

There are so many transwomen in the public eye who have a history of sleazy and misogynistic behaviour, it’s becoming an obvious pattern.
I find it very difficult to feel supportive of these men for this reason.

SueSaid · 31/03/2022 08:55

The detail about his attacker and the condom, why? Why overshare like this and also fleeing the scene of an accident what relevance is this, was he suggesting it's all because of his dysphoria. He could've killed someone.

I get so tired of all the 'brave' comments we hear when men come out after lying to their wives and kids for years. Just do it quietly, say I've got dysphoria and would like everyone to know to prevent further blackmail attempts and leave it at that.

EishetChayil · 31/03/2022 09:06

How can he have been diagnosed with gender dysphoria when it is no longer classified as a disorder?

HomeHomeInTheRange · 31/03/2022 09:08

I don’t care what the LGBQT status of an MP is (but I won’t vote for any politician who thinks Transwomen should be in women’s sports or people with penises should be in women’s prisons or refuges).

I do care that they have a criminal record for leaving the scene of an accident, and that they made money from procuring cash strapped young women for sex with older men. And lie.

Not discombobulated at all.

Just appalled at the moral cynicism of so many politicians and the complacency of those who vote for them.

Surely we have better people than this?

Malteser71 · 31/03/2022 09:10

It’s either a disorder or it’s not.

Trans community think not. Yet they are presumably heralding this?

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 31/03/2022 09:21

The traffic accident - I skimmed an article about this and if I understood it correctly he had told constituents and others that he couldn't meet anyone as he was isolating for Covid at the time. Then at 1.30 in the morning he crashed his Mercedes into a telephone post, which must have been at high speed, as the people in the immediate vicinity were left without broadband for months afterwards. He fled the scene so wasn't tested for drugs or alcohol in his bloodstream. Lots of dodgy decision-making and doubts about his honesty right there, and this is just one of several incidents you could say that about in his CV. Check out his Ph.D. - astrobiology!

This is an MP. He is one of the people we trust to make hugely important decisions, such as whether to go to war. When I'm deciding who to vote for, intelligence, common sense and character are extremely important. On all three counts, this man fails.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 31/03/2022 09:23

It's not a disorder but people with gender dysphoria (and others with gender euphoria Hmm) are entitled to extensive medical treatment on request, according to the most vocal activists, with no mental health screening or counselling required.
ClaudineClare · 31/03/2022 09:25

I saw this on the other thread about Wallis.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 31/03/2022 09:26

For once, Tatchell is right. Even a stopped clock ...

PaterPower · 31/03/2022 09:31

This MP has:

  • Cheated on his wife at least once (or had the intention to before it became rape)
  • Been listed as a Director for (100’s?) a number of dodgy websites / businesses with his dodgy-sounding Dad, including one that sounds like it was a hairs-breadth from enabling prostitution
  • Crashed his car into a lamppost, fled the scene and was later arrested on suspicion of being under the influence at the time of the collision

Before Thatcher’s era submerged British politics firmly under the swamp, any one of those coming to light would have prompted a resignation or a sacking.

Now he can make unsubstantiated (and frankly what should be completely irrelevant either way) statements to the effect that he’s “Gender Dysphoric” and has “PTSD” and all of a sudden his actions are pink-and-blue-washed and he’s just the most “stunning” and “brave” person to ever set foot in the HoC!

As PP have pointed out, WTAF have either of those “diagnoses” (or his status as a rape victim) got to do with his fitness to serve as an MP?

EishetChayil · 31/03/2022 09:31

Grubby, sleazy situation.

Hopefully it will help to bring the trans lunacy out into the open.

BenCooperisaGod · 31/03/2022 09:37

The responses to Tatchell's tweet are pure gold. Everyone objecting to the use of the term 'would be trans'. Even though he said he was not trans yet.

Just like people objected to Maya describing Philip Bunce as a part time cross dresser, even though he a) is and b) had used almost identical language to describe himself.

ClaudineClare · 31/03/2022 09:45

Wallis has not yet faced charges yet for the November incident. I think the timing of this is looking very, very dubious.

BraveBananaBadge · 31/03/2022 09:49

It leaps out a mile. Time and again they fall over themselves to fight over terminology and who might take offence, to avoid having to hear the actual point being made. I too am no fan of Tatchell but he's talking sense here.

Any discussion of this on here will be saved as evidence of MN's 'transphobia' too, most likely.

But when people like Wallis are showing the electorate just how meaningless convoluted the definitions around trans issues are now, where are people - who may have no clue about any of this - supposed to process their thoughts and ask what on earth it all means? Conversely, why do people accept this ideology so blindly?

Wallis has clearly been through some terrible things and hope he gets the help he needs.

I've never heard of a pre-coming out coming out though, which would seem to be the ultimate 'look over there!'

Loathsome though he is, Tatchell is a shrewd tactician. He can see that JW is the last person the TRA movement wants as its poster child first Trans MP.
Ereshkigalangcleg · 31/03/2022 11:13

Indeed.
