Jamie Wallis, The Conservative MP for Bridgend has come out as Britain's first Trans MP, having been diagnosed with Gender Dysphoria.

This is really big news on its own. However Jamie's statement contained lots of other things as well. He was being blackmailed, his blackmailer is in prison. He recently suffered rape.Sad He has PTSD from the rape which caused him to leave the scene of an accident last year, where he crashed his car.

AIBU to feel a bit discombobulated at Jamie Wallis' statement?Confused There is so much information.ConfusedConfusedConfused

I think the timing is interesting @Valeriekat. I'm not saying that Jamie's statement wasnt well thought through. But anyone who knows me, knows I'm not at my -most coherent- best if I'm posting at 3am, after a boozy, work dinner.

Yes OP I’m with you. Found the whole thing so confusing. And after reading the other thread about it (talking about his sugar daddy website etc.), I’m even more confused.

Just so much to digest!!

It’s really hard to separate all of the issues. Especially when he hasn’t.

He’s clearly taking his time to work out what his GD diagnosis might and could mean. Going on this journey so publicly is interesting; it certainly seems a rare course of action. Glad to hear he has support, long may that continue. Plus, it’s a really good opportunity for the Tory party to actually evaluate how they can ensure trans rights can exist alongside womens rights. Fingers crossed that’s how it plays out!

As for the rape and the car crash and the PTSD and the sugar daddy stuff…. 🤯

LittleWhingingWoman · 31/03/2022 02:05

@EvilGoldfish

I hope he gets help and support regarding the rape.

I don’t think him wanting to identify as trans (that is how he phrased it) should overshadow the facts that he was involved in a hit and run, that he encouraged young students into prostitution (he co-owned a ‘sugar daddy’ website and that he lied to the press/public about it.

I question his mental capacity to stand as an mp, due to the fact he claims he did not have the mental capacity to commit a hit and run.

Exactly this - there's a lot to unpack here and many issues. A hit and run is obscene.
LittleWhingingWoman · 31/03/2022 02:10

@Hasselhoffsheadband

I don't mean him personally necessarily by the way. But if any man comes out with a statement like his, does that give them the right to then start using women's spaces?
Yes he suddenly gets the right to be in womens spaces, in womens wards in hospitals and in womens prison if he commits a crime, even if it a a sexual one.

Magic isn't it?

TheOriginalEmu · 31/03/2022 02:29

@SnowdropsInSpring

He says he 'wants to be trans'

So he isn’t trans? So he isn’t the first trans mp? Farcical.

He hasn’t started to transition yet is all that means.
SnowdropsInSpring · 31/03/2022 06:27

He hasn’t started to transition yet is all that means.

In which case, he's not the first trans mp.

Unfortunately, nor his he the first MP with a sordid past that he'd like to avoid.

Soontobe60 · 31/03/2022 06:36

@Hasselhoffsheadband

I don’t see why he’s obliged to demonstrate or evidence that he’s trans. If that’s what he says, I think most reasonable people will take it at face value.

Does that mean he should now be allowed in women's spaces?

Of course he should! Anyone challenging him would be considered to be transphobic!!!
MissLucyEyelesbarrow · 31/03/2022 06:39

@TooBigForMyBoots

Jamie posted his statement at 2.45 this morning. After a Tory party dinner. In a speech at the beginning of the night, PM Johnson made a Trans/KStarmer joke.

I think that this may have played a part in Jamie's decision to come out as trans. My mind is still blown by it all.ShockConfusedHmmConfused

Really? You don't think it might have anything to do with deflecting attention from his bizarre behaviour and driving offence?

I'm extremely sorry he has been raped. But he made money from pimping out women and lied about it. He should not be an MP. And he is not the UK's first trans MP, as he has said he wants to be trans (whatever that means), not that he is. So staying with male pronouns and male privilege, but conveniently deflecting from his errors of judgement. That is cynically using trans people as cover.

Soontobe60 · 31/03/2022 06:41

@TooBigForMyBoots

I don’t see why he’s obliged to demonstrate or evidence that he’s trans.

Jamie has received a Gender Dysphoria diagnosis. I assume the Conservative party are happy enough with the evidence they have received, to support their, and Britain's first Trans MP.

Have you seen the actual diagnosis letter? He SAYS he’s got GD. Just like he SAYS he’s now trans. But won’t be changing pronouns or appearance. He also SAID he had no involvement in a website that encouraged students to prostitution themselves, but that turned out to be untrue. The man is gaslighting us in full view. BTW, there are several politicians who are trans - he’s not the first.
BenCooperisaGod · 31/03/2022 06:48

Here is the kicker ladies. He can be trans, declare himself to be a woman, and that is him transitioned. Ta da! He doesn't have to change a hair on his chinny chin chin.

Just this statement of intent and then this man, who encouraged vulnerable women into prostitution, could be in yours and your daughters spaces.

No thankyou

MissLucyEyelesbarrow · 31/03/2022 07:11

He hasn’t started to transition yet is all that means

What do you mean? We are told that anyone who believes themselves to be trans is trans. So what sort of transition is he expected to undertake? And how can he not already be trans if he thinks he is trans? Will there be a magic moment when he somehow believes it harder and - Ta-Da! - he's trans?

It's almost as if none of it makes sense, isn't it?

Fizbosshoes · 31/03/2022 07:25

@SnowdropsInSpring

How is he actually trans?

Nothing has changed (not even his pronouns)

The alleged rape is a different matter, for which I hope he gets support.

Is he a transwoman? A woman? A man? None? He shows what a farce it can all be.

I also was confused about this. Are they transitioning to be a woman, Or is it the intention to transition? Or have I missed something?Blush

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 31/03/2022 07:28

Not only that, once they say it, they always were trans. So someone whose birth certificate says male, because their sex was correctly observed and recorded by the midwife, can now say 'I am a woman and I've always been a woman, I just have the wrong body parts' and this can't be questioned by anyone. All common sense and safeguarding out of the window.

Shortpoet · 31/03/2022 07:35

In the not so ancient past an MP who was discovered to have fled the scene of an accident and lived off “immoral earnings” would have resigned in disgrace.

Now a trans declaration (literally just a declaration - nothing more) is enough y to act as a stunning and brave invisibility cloak.

I’m sorry for the rape and while it causes trauma it is not an excuse for the previous behaviour.

EishetChayil · 31/03/2022 07:52

He's an absolute embarrassment, and is making a mockery of the LGBT community.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 31/03/2022 08:03

I have asked on the other thread for some details about what this mystical moment of "transition" is, and if someone who had not done anything except say they were "trans" had not "transitioned" in that case. No answer.

EishetChayil · 31/03/2022 08:06

@Notcontent

I was really confused when I read about this today - I couldn’t work out if he was male or female.

Really? What made it difficult to tell?

Cwenthryth · 31/03/2022 08:07

I hadn’t seen this yesterday. There is a lot going on isn’t there! I also hadn’t heard of him before. A history of pimping young women to older men sounds pretty abhorrent to me, but that will likely go down well with the “blow jobs are real jobs” crowd. What are the known details about this hit and run he perpetrated? Was the victim injured or killed? Is he being prosecuted? Killing a person with a car doesn’t seem to have done Caitlyn Jenner much reputational damage overall. But then Jenner isn’t an elected representative.

His diagnosis of gender dysphoria and him saying he “wants to be” trans is of very little interest to me to be honest. I am gender critical and follow a lot of trans people for example on Twitter who are also gender critical. I don’t really care how someone identifies or dresses, if as an adult with mature intellectual capacity they choose medical or surgical treatment to cosmetically alter their bodies, if they wish to change their name. Just as long as we can maintain single-sex spaces where they are needed - in situations where women are vulnerable or simply wish to gather as women only. AFAIK Wallis hasn’t stated he uses or wishes to use women’s spaces, his opinion on “TWAW”, “no debate” etc.

So first trans MP? Whatevs. I’ll judge him on the policies he supports and his actions. I am concerned for starters he seems to have recognised he lacked mental capacity to make sound judgements at a recent time but did not take any leave of absence to manage this. I’m concerned about a history of profiting from pimping young women. I’ll judge him for being a Tory elected in 2019 and therefore helping Johnson get elected! I’ll also judge him a little for making any public statement like this in the wee hours of the morning - he’s an MP, not an instagram celebrity, you’d think statements such as these would be run through various advisors and released with party support rather than thrown out on social media fuelled by emotion.

Kendodd · 31/03/2022 08:14

What's this about him being a pimp?
Any links or news reporting on that?

mnnewbie111 · 31/03/2022 08:14

@TooBigForMyBoots

Are people afraid to talk about this or is everyone just as discombobulated as I am?🤯
I think many couldn't give two fucks no, too much going on to let shit like this occupy my brain
poshme · 31/03/2022 08:18

I feel very sad for his wife (ex-wife?) and kids.
He's openly talking about meeting men for hookups.

He hit a telegraph pole and fled the scene. No other people involved. Police are still investigating.

poshme · 31/03/2022 08:18

@Kendodd he ran a sugar daddy website which offered money to young people for 'relationships'

ClaudineClare · 31/03/2022 08:21

He has my total sympathy for the rape. I have no issue with him being trans, everyone has the right to be themselves.

I wonder where his wife is in all this though, he hasn't mentioned her.

Not a pimp but decidedly iffy.
