Really posting in AIBU for the traffic. I’m so fed up. For almost 3 years I’m had green discharge and plenty of it. Bleeding in between periods (I’m peri menopausal), very inflamed sore vulva and vagina. Has swabs 3 years ago and thrush was found so started treatment. This went on for 9 months. I kept telling them it wasn’t getting better. Eventually the GP saw me, did more swabs, this time all clear but still all the symptoms so I was sent under the 2 week cancer rule to gynae to look for cancer. No cancer but they did do biopsies of womb lining. They wrote to my GP saying an infection was found but discharged me, saying 7 days amoxiclav antibiotics would sort it. I took them and it got better for a few weeks then came back as before. Then pandemic hit. Eventually I got an phone appointment and the dr said I needed swabs and if there were clear she would refer me back. Had swabs, all clear so I was waiting for referral to come. It didn’t. So after 6 months I chased it up. Turns out no referral was made. So I got another appointment, swabs done, another set of antibiotics. Swabs still not showing anything but 7 days antibiotics helped for 3 weeks then it’s back as bad as ever. GP has now referred me back to gynae. Discharge soaking pad in hours. Pain etc. I had a mesh thing put in in 2000’s and had mentioned that to gynae but she couldn’t see it on her screen as records online weren’t that long ago, so that was ignored. I’m being told it’s over a year to gynae but nothing is being offered until I see gynae. Has anyone had anything like this before and have any ideas to help?

I’m getting lots of bad pelvic pain too.

Can't help - sorry but it sounds DREADFUL! Sad

What about going to A & E? Sadly, it's the only way of getting decent medical care atm, because of the backlog from Covid. Not much help sorry. Hope you're better soon Flowers

Sounds like the mesh may have been a contributing factor, but I'm not a doctor so....

Good luck. xx Sorry to be so useless. As I say, I would go to A & E if it's this bad!

Mum198000 · 30/03/2022 14:58

Thanks for the support. I have really tried not to overburden the nhs in the last few years for obvious reasons but I can’t have sex anymore. Can’t live a normal life anymore and now I’ve got to wait a year at least with nothing.

I had considered a and e but it’s not an accident or an emergency so will I just get told to go to GP?

A & E won't turn you away, especially if you tell them you are in lots of pain, incl severe pelvic pain. I would call it an emergency. You sound like you're really suffering. Flowers

I’m now depressed because of it and having treatment for that. All the GP kept saying is that it wasn’t cancer. It felt like they were saying if it’s not cancer it doesn’t matter.

Mummytobe93 · 30/03/2022 15:05

I’d go to A&E too - prolonged infection can get into your bloodstream and cause sepsis

If not, I’d get money from wherever I could and go private, it’s an impossible way to live! Would a hysterectomy solve the issue?

I feel so sorry for you 💐

Please go to A & E. Flowers Can you get there today? A Wednesday afternoon will very likely not be too busy.
Mum198000 · 30/03/2022 15:07

I’m so fed up with it. I had covid not long ago and it’s made it worse somehow.

Are you sure it isn't endometriosis? I had the same symptoms & was referred to a gynacologist who insisted I had anlaparoscopy, he diagnosed PID but after a further lap to remove annovarian cyst apologised when he found endometriosis.

Mum198000 · 30/03/2022 15:10

I can’t go today. I’m just don’t want to wait for 5 hours to be told off for going. At least I don’t have small children to deal with. A&E just seems the wrong place. Here we have to call 111 first you just can’t go How much is a private gynae these days?

ZealAndArdour · 30/03/2022 15:11

A&E can and will turn you away if it’s neither an accident or an emergency. You’ve already been referred and had it’s a chronic problem.

If you develop a fever or become systemically unwell, by all means go to ED but otherwise its not appropriate.

Have you thought about making GU Medicine appt? Or STI clinic or whatever it’s called where you are? You’d at least get another set of swabs done, various things excluded and potentially some antibiotics again if your swabs grew anything again. You might even see a consultant who is prepared to liaise with gynae on your behalf if deemed necessary.

Mum198000 · 30/03/2022 15:13

The gynae did biopsies and saidthere was an infection so PID. Would endometriosis cause sore vulva and vagina? I get Bart’s glands problems too.

A&E will not turn you away at the door, but it's highly unlikely anything actually helpful will happen.

If your obs are normal and you are not systemically unwell, as sounds the case, the most that will happen is a set of bloods and maybe more antibiotics. They are highly unlikely to get gynae to see you any quicker.

If you believe you are systemically unwell or at risk of becoming so then of course do go.

But I think the PPs are giving you false expectations.

Mum198000 · 30/03/2022 15:15

We have a clinic in a nearby town. Had my coil put in there. That might be a idea. Though the swabs have been clear for sti.

This. ^A & E will NOT turn you away @Mum198000 Ignore anyone saying they will.

Do you have a hormonal coil? Have you been swabbed for BV? Bacterial Vaginosis gives loads of thin / watery discharge and vulval/vaginal pain and it's easily treated with the right antibiotics. You can get test kits OTC (but will need a script for antibiotics)
Worth ruling it out at least.

Mum198000 · 30/03/2022 15:27

Yes got a hormone coil and I had the metriodozole antibiotics for 10 days which is the treatment for bv but they said swabs were clear so not bv but gave me the antibiotics anyway.

I’m so sorry OP.

I suggest look into private treatment, I know it’s not fair. They can offer better scans and will listen better.

I’m not sure I agree with those suggesting A&E, I took a relative to A&E once and although he was given meds on that day he was just told go see GP.

CandlesBlanketsandTea · 30/03/2022 15:29

I'd be thinking about getting rid of the coil, sounds like you could be reacting to it. Hope you get it sorted sounds awful.

ZealAndArdour · 30/03/2022 15:31

Some emergency departments do actually have band 7 nurses located at the front desk specifically to turn people away at the door.

Mum198000 · 30/03/2022 15:31

I’ve had coils for 18 years just swapping them out each time. I’m too old for pregnancy anyway in my late 40’s and no sex is pretty fail proof!

OP posts:
Mum198000 · 30/03/2022 15:33

I asked GP about taking it out for that reason and they said they don’t do it. And gave me a lecture on unwanted pregnancy! 🤦‍♀️

Drenching puss in pads wouldn't be turned away
GingerFigs · 30/03/2022 15:36

This is awful. It's so hard to get anything done, when it's not classed as an emergency you just get fobbed off and they hope you'll go away. Which is understandable as the health service is on its knees.

I say go private. It will cost you but your quality of life says it's worth it. Good luck Thanks
