Really posting in AIBU for the traffic. I’m so fed up. For almost 3 years I’m had green discharge and plenty of it. Bleeding in between periods (I’m peri menopausal), very inflamed sore vulva and vagina. Has swabs 3 years ago and thrush was found so started treatment. This went on for 9 months. I kept telling them it wasn’t getting better. Eventually the GP saw me, did more swabs, this time all clear but still all the symptoms so I was sent under the 2 week cancer rule to gynae to look for cancer. No cancer but they did do biopsies of womb lining. They wrote to my GP saying an infection was found but discharged me, saying 7 days amoxiclav antibiotics would sort it. I took them and it got better for a few weeks then came back as before. Then pandemic hit. Eventually I got an phone appointment and the dr said I needed swabs and if there were clear she would refer me back. Had swabs, all clear so I was waiting for referral to come. It didn’t. So after 6 months I chased it up. Turns out no referral was made. So I got another appointment, swabs done, another set of antibiotics. Swabs still not showing anything but 7 days antibiotics helped for 3 weeks then it’s back as bad as ever. GP has now referred me back to gynae. Discharge soaking pad in hours. Pain etc. I had a mesh thing put in in 2000’s and had mentioned that to gynae but she couldn’t see it on her screen as records online weren’t that long ago, so that was ignored. I’m being told it’s over a year to gynae but nothing is being offered until I see gynae. Has anyone had anything like this before and have any ideas to help?

A&E departments are under tremendous pressure currently, patients waiting 25 hours on trolleys for beds on wards, thus clogging up emergency departments as all the emergency staff need to care for patients who should already be safely on a ward, in addition to all of the new attenders.

The ED where I work had just under 300 patients in the department at one point in the last couple of days.

Anyone with a choice on whether they should go to ED or not, absolutely should not.

Nat6999 · 30/03/2022 15:39

Ask for a referral under NHS choose & book to your nearest private hospital, that was how I got treatment quickest. Without looking at what is happening inside they really can't say properly what is wrong. My ovaries, tubes & my womb were all going grey, basically dying inside me. I had a keyhole hysterectomy, it was the best thing I ever did.

Mum198000 · 30/03/2022 15:40

Should my gp be doing something while I’m waiting for gynae?

Nat6999 I’m so sorry. What were your symptoms? Anything like mine?

I would go to a walk in sexual health/GUM clinic, if there is one nearby. They will be able to take swabs/prescribe antibiotics if needed. Ours (in a London teaching hospital) can refer to the emergency gynae clinic if necessary.

Mum198000 · 30/03/2022 15:46

I’m just looking into our gum clinic. They are not doing walk ins anymore but I’m going to make an appointment.

That sounds like a good way forward! I hope you get it sorted.

Also, if you have the means it’s worth looking into going private. I had a similar situation waiting for a cardiology referral not considered urgent but still massively impacting my quality of life with symptoms, I booked a private cardiology appt with BMI had my initial appointment, cardiologist referred me for investigations at the private hospital, got those done the following week, results two weeks later, saw him again, started medication and he got me bumped up the list for the arrhythmia nurse on the NHS as I’d passed the initial bottleneck by paying for the first few investigations myself. I was no longer sat in the “undifferentiated, undiagnosed cardiology problem” part of the queue and was able to be moved into the “formally diagnosed and investigated, in need of monitoring” part of the queue.

I would also try GUM. A friend of mine had what was diagnosed as recurrent thrush (similar symptoms to yours) after her first baby. Would go away for a short time after treatment but always came back quickly. She went to the GUM clinic in desperation. Turned out finally to be Herpes but was treated easily and now no more issues.

It’s ridiculous the GP wouldn’t remove the coil and lecture you on unwanted pregnancy… You can’t have sex anyway! And to be honest, I’d take my chances over dripping puss from my bits !

lolarosea12 · 30/03/2022 16:12

There have been a lot of reports of issues related to mesh surgery - please dont let this be overlooked because they cant find it in your records. Sorry to hear you have been so overlooked so far.

I previously worked in a private medical centre who worked with women with meshes who were suing due to the issues caused.

Quackpot · 30/03/2022 16:38

I know this won't fix the problem, but bloom and Nora reusable maxi pads are the most absorbent I've ever used, DD uses them too, she goes through a bodyform nighttime pad in 20 minutes but the Nora maxi lasts her 3 hours. Just a thought. You can get them on Amazon for cheaper than the official website too.

Mum198000 · 30/03/2022 16:55

Thank you all for the help. I’ve made an appointment with the GUM clinic. We will see where that leads. I can’t go on like this.

Regarding the gP and the coil. They don’t fit them or remove them anymore only gum clinics apparently.

I was marked about the unwanted pregnancy lecture too. More time on that than my issues. As I said my name wasn’t Mary so at 47 not likely to get pregnant without sex anyway! Hell not likely to get pregnant even with sex!

Marked? Narked.

I bet if a man had green discharge dripping out of his penis he would be seen quickly.

Hi op, I had a hormonal coil for 3 yrs and had near constant thrush. I would treat it but it just kept coming back. I was told it wasn't anything to do with the coil but I had it removed anyway and I've been 5 years thrush free. I think it's worth having your coil removed and treating the infection without it to see if that works. Good luck, it sounds like it's really getting you down.

frigr · 30/03/2022 17:54

Oh I should have added
I have had 2 mirena coils back-to-back so for about 8 years in a row. For 7 years it was perfect, then I started having spotting and horrible smelly discharge. Not much discharge but smelly. Swabs negative.
Gynae said wasn't related to coil but had it removed and all resolved....

Mum198000 · 30/03/2022 18:14

Thanks. I’m getting it out. No point if I can’t have sex anyway. Fingers crossed!

I had horrific period pain, heavy periods, constant pelvic pain, bowel & bladder problems, lots of infections that had the symptoms of BV but tests were clear. I was on Tramadol for the pain, couldn't work or have sex

Mum198000 · 30/03/2022 20:46

Thank you Nat6999 I will ask about that as a possible.

OP posts:
LazyYogi · 30/03/2022 21:29

You have had the treatment for BV which I think is the same as Trichomoniasis but to me your symptoms match Trichomoniasis so I would make sure that was checked.

dudsville · 30/03/2022 21:41

This sounds awful. In my area we also have Urgent Care department as a step down from A&E. Do you have this? Could be helpful to ring them if so. I rang mine and they advised A&E and that gave me the confidence to go.

Mum198000 · 30/03/2022 23:11

Thanks but urgent care got closed here. 111 has taken over and you can’t go to a&e without calling 111 first. I’ve made a gum clinic appointment.

Mum198000 · 31/03/2022 14:20

I’m very tempted to buy bv treatment via Superdrug online while I wait for the appointment.
