We are all cheering on Ukraine for defending their country, well I shall cheer on WS for defending his family

This is a ridiculous and insulting comment and comparison.

Discwriter · 28/03/2022 21:06

I think WS' reaction was completely bizarre, wonder what is going on with him. I don't think it's fake, CR handled it professionally. The answer is never violence. I would be absolutely mortified if my DH slaps someone to 'defend my honour'.

girlmom21 · 28/03/2022 21:28

Of course it wasn’t fake. Look at cr’s reactions, WS’s speech

It can't possibly be fake. Look at how the actors acted Hmm

And what about the other stuff I wrote? Yes actors maybe, but will smith doing this for a stunt would be the most stupid thing ever, it’s not exactly the thing to do to improve a career is it. And the academy holding emergency talks to discuss it. I can’t believe anyone thinks this was all fake
OverWorking9to5 · 28/03/2022 21:44

Oh I'm sure this has all been said, but his speech was so embarrassing. LIke he's a river/defender of the people flowing to defend. Not a man taking responsibility for the punch he just threw. I wish for his sake he'd said he was embarrassed and acted impulsively and apologised...........

He's an actor, but why would he act like a disgraced mess unravelling publicly but still unable to take responsibility. He was using distancing language, he couldn't acknowledge what just happened. He aligned himself with a ''defender'' after punching somebody in a moment of impulsivity but did not say ''I' and did not sorry. He looked like he knew he'd shot himself in the foot. It was moritfying and I pitied him. that speech was such a mess.
Newtonred · 28/03/2022 22:05

I think we now live in a world where men are a bunch of wet blankets who sit by and do nothing to defend their wives because they’re cowardly

Actually my husband would have self control and think about the wider concequences
and that’s one of the reasons I married him. Yes he would say something but violence no.

Newtonred · 28/03/2022 22:08

And I have even made to feel shit about my disability many times and had really nasty things said to me. If anyone around me resorted to violence in order to defend me I would not be impressed with them at all. Words yes, slapping someone- no

Shuuu · 28/03/2022 22:14

It’s totally unacceptable. Will should have used his words prior to a physical assault. The fact he went back to his seat & nobody removed him is mind blowing. I can’t wrap my head around it.

Huge respect for Chris rock for taking it like a Pro & carrying on. However due to the nature of the joke I do think he needs to apologise to Jada

girlmom21 · 29/03/2022 07:22

@Towelseverywhere if it's fake the academy still have to play along. If they're doing it for the news stories etc they can't just go "lol just joking guys we set it up" can they.

Marynotsocontrary · 29/03/2022 12:04

Can't believe people think it's fake!

Why would the pair of them (CR and WS) want to make themselves look so bad in everyone's eyes?
It's not fake unfortunately.

knittingaddict · 29/03/2022 12:18

I would be furious if my husband tried to defend my "honour" with violence. Fortunately he's not that sort of person. The scenario would go something like this:

Give each other that look.
Whispered conversation.
Leave the venue and never come back - Oscar or no bloody Oscar.

No need to slap anyone and self respect fully intact.

These roastings need to stop though. They aren't big and they aren't clever.

girlmom21 · 29/03/2022 12:19

I don't think it's fake - I just wouldn't be massively surprised if it did turn out to be.
Probably because it's just so strange!

Marynotsocontrary · 29/03/2022 12:29

Will Smith has apologised to Chris Rock now.

Wow, that would have been so powerful
Wish they did that !

The second my dd saw it She said it looked fake.
The Oscars are failing.
This will have boosted rating excuse the pun!

I don't think it is fake but even She looks fake being offended!

KELLOGSspeck · 30/03/2022 00:55

@Mrsjayy

I don't think anybody on this thread is defending him Chris Rock joke was awful and disrespectful but he really didn't deserved slapped about the face !
I think Chris deserved it and I do not feel sorry for Jada in all of this. Personally if Will was my husband I would took his hand so quickly and rushed him out of the Oscas.... it wasn't just a comment Will didn't like, like some posters have stated.

Chris was betilling Will in front of everybody at the expense of Jada some things are below the line and that definitely was. I suspect if someone spoke upon someone's illness IRL you would get a crack round the face too!

However Will with his status is a different scenario and he should not of done it.

KELLOGSspeck · 30/03/2022 01:00

@Rachwato

It’s not ok to ridicule and embarrass- the impact that aloplcia has on someone’s self esteem / confidence / MH. Love how fiercely Will supported his family.
Exactly this has been hugely bypassed. Why wasn't Chris Rock removed? Because it was out of order he started it and Will just escalated the situation. They BOTH should not of been allowed to carry on if that was the case.
Valeriekat · 31/03/2022 06:51

@Nicholethejewellery

YANBU, after Noel Clarke was accused of sexual assault BAFTA suspended him. I saw on the BBC today he was falsely accused so they'll probably reinstate him. But if one organisation suspends someone on the strength of allegations then Smith should not have been allowed to collect his award for actually assaulting someone.
The Met has released a statement saying special detectives had carried out a "thorough assessment" of the claims, but "determined the information would not meet the threshold for a criminal investigation". Where did they say that the allegations were false?
Mrsjayy · 31/03/2022 08:51

I read this morning, Will Smith was asked to leave but refused to go ! What an arrogant tool he is.

CailleachGranda · 31/03/2022 09:05

Wow. Some posters live in a world where slapping people is justified and deserved and where they're on first name terms with the players involved

Sad

Turningpurple · 31/03/2022 15:43

@Mrsjayy

I just saw this and don't get it.

Surely, if they want him to leave, they can eject him. They must have security.

I believe he is an arrogant tool, but I am guessing it was more suggested to him to that he should leave and he said no. Now they are trying to place it all on him for refusing as they are getting heat for nor doing something.

Survey the converstation wasn't

"You must leave the building"
"Nope"
"Oh OK then"

Maybe it was, but just seems weird.

WhoWants2Know · 31/03/2022 18:42

I guess if they feel sad about what happened, they can all go home and cry on their big piles of money. It's like the epitome of first world problems.

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 31/03/2022 18:51

Ye see, something honks here as well.

So security don’t seem to have been told to remove him.

What next? Someone has a very deliberate clothing malfunction and bares their arse on stage? Gets left to show what they had for their tea?

Someone rushes the venue with a knife? But gets left to run amok…

It wouldn’t happen.

So they clearly didn’t try very hard to get him to leave. And just appear to be outraged for show.

Rather than cry into their mattress of money, I bet they were very, very happy onto it.
