For those that have an older sister is she bossy? Mine is and controlling and i noticed someone on here having a problem with their older sister the other day.

So can i ask is your older sister bossy and how do you manage. I find it difficult to manage my sister at times.

@moonbedazzled thank you. Yes, we are so lucky to have that amazingly close, loving bond, aren't we, it was the joy of my life to have my sister for over 50 years. May you and your sister continue to hold each other close for many, many years to come.

EdgeOfACoin · 25/03/2022 18:43

Why are blokes never described as bossy?

Must be because none of them ever take the lead or order people around.

Sceptre86 · 25/03/2022 18:49

I'm the eldest sister and yes I am bossy. I'm working to tone it down in family situations .

WhenISnappedAndFarted · 25/03/2022 18:51

I'm an older sister and I guess I'm bossy however I did have to bring them up since early teenager so I guess I got so used to being 'Mum'

😭😭😭 Thank you. We will.

And next time I'm contemplating stabbing her to death with the butter knife, I'll think of you and restrain myself. 😉 🙂

All the best to you. x

Both my younger sisters are bossier than my older sister. All three are bossier than me, obviously Grin

@WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles

Are older bothers bossy too or is it just sisters? Probably not, brothers are probably assertive.

No doubt I will be called joyless Grin but this is one of my pet hates, bossy is one of those words usually used against women in a pejorative sense, like nagging. Men are assertive and firm and focused, women are bossy and rude and nagging.

@WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles I think the same and glad someone said it.
SpiderVersed · 25/03/2022 19:09

I can conjugate that verb!

She is bossy
He is dictatorial
I am assertive.

Yes, I was an assertive wee madam when I was little. My younger brother is very dictatorial with his kids but less so with peers.

My youngest explained it to her teacher when she was 6:

"It's not that I'm bossy, it's just that things are better when I'm in charge."

Kaleidoscope2 · 25/03/2022 19:09

I'm the eldest and growing up was definitely bossy. I think I've mellowed with age and we are all adults so they don't need me telling them what to do (would be bizarre to boss them around these days) but my word does probably still hold weight and my siblings do come to me for advice and I tend to be the organiser.

FirewomanSam · 25/03/2022 19:11

‘Bossy’ is such a horrible word (it’s never said about men or boys, is it?) but my younger sister is definitely the bossy one in our family!

BathTangle · 25/03/2022 19:14

I'm an only child, so can't comment myself. My husband's oldest sister is definitely bossy (no one else's opinion is allowed to stand and she cannot cope with her little brother being right).

Interestingly her oldest child (boy) is definitely the bossy one of the siblings, so not related to sex.

avocadotofu · 25/03/2022 19:24

I'm a c BFF very boast older sister and it drives my sisters bananas.

avocadotofu · 25/03/2022 19:25

That should have said definitely, silly autocorrect!

RaraRachael · 25/03/2022 19:32

Mine is nearly 9 years older than me so we grew up almost as only children. She always blamed me for everything and , because she was older, my parents always believed her. She always got the first pick of everything (jewellery when granny died etc), bigger bedroom etc I'm not sure why being the elder entitles someone to such privileges.

Now we're older, we don't have anything in common, probably due to the big age difference, and don't really have much to do with each other.

I'm always really jealous of sisters who are really close.

I’m the older sister & I know my siblings say I’m the bossy one and like to have everything in order (they like to throw controlling into the mix as well) oddily I’m not like that with my friendship group!

I’ve tried over the years to become less so. This weekend I have organised the Mother’s Day lunch - gave everyone the choice of which place time etc all booked..my bit done. Then I get a text today where we meeting for a walk which car park - then they annoyed at me as I haven’t planned it for them!!! None of them have even bothered to look for themselves and now annoyed at me for not doing it for them!!! I don’t know the area either and it’s just a place sort of in the middle for us all to travel to!!
I

KathieFerrars · 25/03/2022 19:37

Yes! Middle one between eldest sister who mansplains everything and me, youngest. Middle one is the 'sensible one' and very very bossy. But nice too.

Carpedimum · 25/03/2022 19:45

I’ve been NC with my older sister for a long time now. We were close but I she constantly criticised me, sarcastic, sneering and bossy in a controlling, manipulative, passive-aggressive way. I lost my patience with her & my life without her in it feels so much lighter, she was a very negative presence, like a Dementor from Harry Potter!

Hunderland · 25/03/2022 19:51

I'm an older sister and quite, er, direct Grin
