Mine are:
“We are pregnant” when only one of the couple is physically pregnant
and
“It is what it is”

Literally is now (literally) listed in dictionaries as having an alternative meaning of figuratively, @ginghamstarfish Grin

MarieIVanArkleStinks · 22/03/2022 22:28

'Massively' is almost always an overstatement which rarely if ever justifies its very cliched overuse.

If that's a major offender, the exaggerated misspelling and hyperbolic overstatement that is 'mahoosive' gets a big, fat 'get in the bin' from me. (Which is also a teeth-grindingly annoying phrase).

Dangling modifiers really grate. 'Showcasing' can likewise fuck off.

'We're' pregnant should be amusing owing to its anatomical impossibility, if it wasn't that a good deal of the clearly anatomically impossible will likely get you 'cancelled' if you point out the (obvious, uncontroversial, incontrovertible) fact. Not quite the same thing as informing DH: 'come back and tell me that the next time you piss yourself when you sneeze'.

That was cathartic ...

Saracen · 22/03/2022 22:36

"Where there's smoke, there's fire" = we should believe nasty gossip

KezzabellaB · 22/03/2022 22:40

Should OF
Could OF
Would OF
Gahhhhhhh!!!!!

KimCheese · 22/03/2022 22:43

It not a phrase, but I really hate 'mom'.

I hate 'mum.'
silkypillows · 22/03/2022 23:11

Today I read someone post "you are exactly where you need to be".

What a ridiculous statement. Justification for lazy bastards, IMO.

MistyGreenAndBlue · 23/03/2022 12:14

Can't stand "lap/lapping it up". Just bleugh!
"Lush" is also a terrible word. It does not mean what you think it means - just stop it.

Most of the ones previously mentioned on here don't bother me though. Maybe I don't hear them often enough to get fed up of them.

MaeveKerrigan · 23/03/2022 12:40

@HoollyWugger

On quiz shows - "That's a GREAT answer!!!" No, it's the one and only RIGHT answer Angry
I shout this at Bradley Walsh every evening 😂
Andante57 · 23/03/2022 13:01

I get irritated by the phrase ‘unlikely friendship’.
Not because it’s bleurgh but because who is anyone else to decide who will get along with whom? (Or should that be whom will get along with who?).
The chemistry of friendship is mysterious and just because people disagree about politics or whatever doesn’t mean they can’t be friends.

CruCru · 23/03/2022 13:53

Well, wheniruletheworld, I know what people mean when they say they don’t suffer fools gladly. But it’s quite a weird thing to say - “Make sure that you are on good form at all times or I’ll get angry”. Someone who says it isn’t worth spending any time on.

Crucru I know what you mean about people like that. Next time you come across someone like that, ask this question:

A bat and a ball cost £1.10 in total.
The bat costs £1 more than the ball.
How much is the ball?

Now to many that’s a simple maths question but you’d be amazed how many so-called clever people can’t do it.

JudgeJ · 23/03/2022 14:21

@Sunshineandrainbow

I'm not being funny
Everytime someone says that to me I add 'Very true' before they can go on, often shuts them up.
JudgeJ · 23/03/2022 14:22

@PolytheneRam

Same difference.
That always reminds me of my late Dad, he would say 'It's all the sa.me dog washed'
Cam22 · 23/03/2022 14:24

Going forward.

tiedyetie · 23/03/2022 14:25

Ugh famalam

Also, holibobs

JudgeJ · 23/03/2022 14:25

@2old2beamum

Sorry if this offends but someone has "passed away" and we "lost" someone infuriates me they have died.
When I was very young I heard my mother say the some neighbour had lost a baby and it puzzled me, Where did she leave it?
JudgeJ · 23/03/2022 14:27

@Sarahlou252

Would of Should of Could of
So true, I prefer my namesake's Woulda, coulda, shoulda
JudgeJ · 23/03/2022 14:29

@Oneonetheracehorse

Plating up. I've never heard this used in real life and it really irritates me. 'I plated up her dinner for later' Urgh.

Batch cooking.

Foraging. No, you didn't forage blackberries. You picked them.

Curated when all it means is went out and bought/found.
greenpolkadot55 · 23/03/2022 15:17

'Its all much of a muchness'
'Mindset'
'Well basically'...and then proceed with a long and boring tale that id anything but basic.

greenpolkadot55 · 23/03/2022 15:19

'Passed over'..

lackofinspo · 23/03/2022 15:20
