Mine are:
“We are pregnant” when only one of the couple is physically pregnant
and
“It is what it is”

@Wheniruletheworld

Mom is not Emglish. Mum, mama, mother. Not mom yukk
This is a rather lovely example of Muphry's Law.
CounsellorTroi · 23/03/2022 15:55

"Lush" is also a terrible word. It does not mean what you think it means - just stop it.

Lush does informally mean a drunk but also means

  1. (Of vegetation) luxuriant and green
  1. Very rich and providing great sensory pleasure(lush orchestration”
  1. Sexually attractive.

I think it’s a great word, features widely in South Wales dialect and I’m going to carry on using it.

On the toilet or, slightly worse, on't toilet.

It conjures up a graphic image

Wheniruletheworld · 23/03/2022 16:23

So @maevekerrigan, you consider any opinion contrary to yours ignorant. People on MN post some v strong opinions which, is great, and some of those may go against the usual MN grain, but dear god, clearly you can't go against the term mom...

frogsbreath · 23/03/2022 16:29

Safe and well

Thoughts and prayers

Living my best life

Fur baby

So I did a thing...!
Hmm

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 23/03/2022 16:32

This isn't a case of warring opinions. Mom is a standard word in various dialects in use across the British Isles. You've been provided a link to confirm this. You are refusing to accept that you are wrong when you say that 'mom' is not an 'Emglish' word. I think you meant to type English but you should probably have written British, and you'd still have been wrong. Accept this gracefully and move on.

Ignorance means lack of knowledge. You showed your lack of knowledge (ignorance) by stating that 'mom' is not English, when in fact it is used all over the West Midlands and possibly other areas of the UK.
AmyDudley · 23/03/2022 16:44

'Cheeky' to describe anything other than cheekiness. (e.g cheeky coffee, cheeky wine etc.)

'Bless you' or 'Bless' - shut up you're not the Pope.

And definitely the appalling 'we are pregnant' - really? Then how come only one of us is throwing up all day ?

Wheniruletheworld · 23/03/2022 16:52

I admit I am in the wrong here (re mom) and I apologise to everyone I have pissed off. 🙁

MaeveKerrigan · 23/03/2022 19:09

I also apologise for being snippy @Wheniruletheworld

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 23/03/2022 19:13

And so do I, @Wheniruletheworld.

So, as I used to say to my children, long, long ago, we're all happy friends now! Grin

Wheniruletheworld · 23/03/2022 20:21

I know I am gobby and sometimes judgy! Happy to admit I am wrong (but don't like mom!!)

Cocycola · 23/03/2022 20:44

On it like a car bonnet

I love you/him/her to the moon and back

When people say they are going somewhere and say the place name followed by 'baby' (Newcastle baby!, London baby!)

Cocycola · 23/03/2022 20:46

I hate bless or bless you too, it is so patronising
Cocycola · 23/03/2022 20:48

Oh, and 'my bad' grates me!

My3cents1 · 23/03/2022 21:02

I’m not being funny. Not phases but the words babes, hun and legend.

My3cents1 · 23/03/2022 21:22

@PinkSyCo. Your post gave me a good laugh. I needed that so thank you.

PerseverancePays · 23/03/2022 21:24

Do you know what I mean?
Repeatedly.
As you are speaking basic, plain English, yes I do.

PerseverancePays · 23/03/2022 21:31

Unbelievable! When someone is doing a perfectly expected thing as in, in particular, a singing competition and they sing. It is not unbelievable. It might be many things all of which have many words to describe them, but not unbelievable.

Hesma · 23/03/2022 21:35

Hollibobs
Should/could/would of

I agree with we’re pregnant as well
