Because he was doing me a favour and now I have black splotches around my roots :(

YABU - You are not a boat so it was a chance you took to save money

DuckyNoMates · 20/03/2022 17:33

@Alwaysforgiving

Salons never want to touch my hair and take it to the level I like... It's just that it's more as such a difficult spot to miss
That looks so bad sorry
SmallPrawnEnergy · 20/03/2022 17:36

You’ve wrecked your own hair let’s face it. I bleach / colour my hair a lot. If your hair is so processed you can’t fix patches like this without breaking your hair you’re doing it wrong. Most likely using too harsh a developer. If you don’t know what you’re doing you need to seek professional intervention, but again, the way you’re describing you’re hair sounds like it’s completely fried anyway.

bellac11 · 20/03/2022 17:39

My hair looks like that when I dye it blonder, Im always missing bits and have dark chunks

Debbie Harry used to have the same problem apparently so I dont care

OatSprout · 20/03/2022 17:40

Even favours need to be done right though!

If he wasn’t willing or able to take as much care as it needs then he should have said so, and the receiver needs to accept that with good grace.

Doing a careless job for someone you apparently love is just a bit shit. I hope that isn’t what he has done, though it does sound a bit like it.

fairylightsandwaxmelts · 20/03/2022 17:42

It looks like the bleach wrecked long before your DH tried to dye your roots Blush

AuntyMabelandPippin · 20/03/2022 17:46

It's not the hardest thing to do. Section the hair into four pieces, then work down from top back to the finish.

Any other way is going to miss bits.

I'm assuming that the OP's natural colour is quite dark and no hairdresser would be willing to lift it to the shade the OP wants precisely because it's so fragile.

If she wants it that light her only option is to take a chance and do it herself. But it must be really brittle.

Cognoscenti · 20/03/2022 17:57

I'm not meaning to be nasty OP, but your hair is in a really bad state. Take it from someone who once bleached their hair at home to try to lift it quicker and destroyed it many years ago!
Your hair looks like it's at the chewing gum stage already, I'm guessing if you pull it, it stretches and snaps off in little bits. It'll break upwards from this point, it won't always be noticeable until the little breakages culminate in short patches that are very obvious. Honestly, I would go to a hairdresser, and get it cut. That way you may be able to salvage it, and they can recommend how to safely go lighter once it's not in such bad condition.

LYSHB · 20/03/2022 17:59

Salons won’t touch your hair because it’s looks over-processed and zero pigment to it, the mid lengths are yellow. They wouldn’t be covered by their insurance, your hair isn’t in good enough form.

I dunno why you’d wanna moan about your untrained husband making mistakes. Painting bloody is not anything like colouring hair.

WishIwasElsa · 20/03/2022 18:10

Just do the parts he missed again but be careful not to overlap the part he has already done. Get him to watch Brad Mondo for what not to do.

moonbedazzled · 20/03/2022 18:12

Yeah, if he left his glasses off and was watching the footie at the same time, then you defo have the right to be annoyed.

SpinningTheSeedsOfLove · 20/03/2022 18:14

What's his day job? Does he paint ships?

SpinningTheSeedsOfLove · 20/03/2022 18:22

Sorry I missed a page of posts, OP.

Nocutenamesleft · 20/03/2022 18:26

@WhatTheWhoTheWhatThe

God I wouldn’t let DH anywhere near my head with hair dye! Can understand being annoyed with situation but probably not his fault
Jesus. Me neither!!!

Why did you change your name, OP?
diddl · 20/03/2022 18:32

Well he hasn't wrecked it has he?

He's missed some bits!

It's easily fixable & will then look as you want it to.

Good guess!! Especially as you posted before you saw he does boats 😅. Sorry OP, you allowed him to damage it by taking the risk.
steff13 · 20/03/2022 18:38

@Onlyrainbows

The problem is that with such processed hair you gotta be super careful or it can easily break... There's a few random spots at the back/crown too. I did ask him a few times if he got it all because I could tell he wasn't being as thorough as the previous time.
Exactly why one goes to a professional.
whynotwhatknot · 20/03/2022 18:39

Youre not a boat

cracking up at this

Somuddled · 20/03/2022 18:44

Mine does my hair. Occasionally it messes up, it's a risk I have to accept if I get someone who isn't a hairdressers to do it. Hardly his fault.

Bagadverts · 20/03/2022 18:45

@Hoppinggreen

Unless you are actually a boat then YABU

ancientgran · 20/03/2022 18:45

Sounds like it was beginners luck last time and then he got a bit over confident. Of course you are upset but I don't think he'd do that on purpose, wouldn't be worth the upset unless he's a total .........not sure if he'd be a sadist for doing it to you or a masochist because he'd know he'd get grief.

I hope you can sort it.

Madness!!! We’re not in lockdown now do no excuse for non qualified partners to be doing hair!
Discwriter · 20/03/2022 18:47

@Hoppinggreen GrinGrinGrin

Sorry OP, go to the hairdresser and ask for a colour correction. Think you need to give your hair a break before it all breaks!
