Housing crisis

Aibu to feel really angry about the housing situation in this country ?? I think it's terrible that tenants that privately rent only get 2 months to find somewhere else to live once issued with a section 21 surely in the current climate of a rental shortage it should be six months ?? I think it's awful that people can't get mortgages despite paying the same or less in rent each month. I think it's disgusting that 'affordable housing' is anything but for the normal low wage earning person. There is zero help for people working on a low wage. Sorry but I just need to vent, I want to complain but don't know who to !!

My daughter, son in law and Grandchildren moved in with me as they were private renting and found they constantly had to move house and it was too unsettling for the children, especially as the eldest is ASD and LD.

Now 7 years later after completely unforeseen circumstances my son in law is in a wheelchair and my home is completely unsuitable - he effectively has to live in one room and rarely leaves the house. They applied for social housing as private renting is not really possible with the amount of adaptions needed and they have a 2-5 year wait. He worked right up until the day before he lost his legs but can no longer do the same job and so currently they are on benefits.

The housing crisis goes way beyond not being able to get onto the housing market - it is not even able to meet the basic needs of the population.

It's also the middle aged couple who are stuck in rentals.
A good friend of mine got divorced years ago and had to sell the matrimonial home as she couldn't afford the mortgage alone.
A few years later, she met and married a divorced man who had also previously owned his home and lost it in the divorce.
Despite having over half the price of a house in savings for a deposit and both working full time with no dependents and a great credit rating, no one will give them a mortgage due to them being ' too old ' they're 52 and 54 years old respectively and only want a mortgage for a maximum of 15 years!
It's ridiculous that they're stuck in private rental when they could be paying half their rent in mortgage.
The whole system is crazy.

100% mortgages increase demand for housing.... so prices would go up even more! Not to mention the other issues with them already noted. Terrible idea.

The system is completely unfit for purpose and needs to change. I doubt it ever will though.
