To not want to be called a ‘dickhead’/‘bitch’ at work?

pudridpudding · 19/03/2022 05:10

A woman I work with flounces in at the start of her shift yelling out: “Morning, dickheads/bitches!”

She isn’t my boss (though seems to think she is, along with everyone else), but she is responsible for a few people.

I find it childish, unprofessional and annoying. I suspect she thinks it makes her seem edgy.

AIBU to not want to hear it?

Sorry, I accidentally voted YABU Blush I changed it but not sure if it went through...

This annoys me as well. Some people say this to almost everyone they know.

However, I don't think they actually mean any harm. As you say, they are looking to see edgey and it's in no way personal.

Is there anyone you could raise this with at work? What is the environment like in general?

Everywhere I've worked where people do this it has always been in the wider context of a generally unprofessional environment which does, unfortunately, make it quite difficult to do anything about it.

pudridpudding · 19/03/2022 05:20

@LadyPropane Sounds a lot like yours was. I’ve seen other people taken aback by it but I’m sure if I raised it I’d end up the villain, and not the one calling everyone dickheads.

I worked with someone like this. And she was a manager. It was definitely a power play. The younger staff would laugh nervously but those of us older staff made a point of stopping and staring blankly at her, saying, "What?" She wised up.

She needs to be careful. I mean, can you imagine the Employment Tribunal determination: "She regularly called her colleagues obscenities.. "

daretodenim · 19/03/2022 05:36

I see this on Instagram and tiktok videos. I'd say it's less edgy and more part of a prima donna power play to show how cool she is. Living her best life to the extreme like influencers...or reality TV stars... So definitely mainstream online behaviour rather than edgy. But the only people who do it are, ironically, dickheads.

Yanbu, this is obviously not normal for work.

However is it worth saying anything? That depends on what your workplace is like. Is it an unprofessional place in general?

pudridpudding · 19/03/2022 05:51

Supposedly @carefullycourageous. But this kind of thing definitely drags it down.

I'd see it as someone trying to be cool and thinking they are, but coming across as a complete immature idiot. Someone whose only topics of conversation revolve around which TV programme they "binge" on.
It's presumably not meant as an actual insult, but to be "hilarious"
I think I wouldn't complain, I'd just roll my eyes and mutter "how old are we?"

PAFMO · 19/03/2022 05:58

Or, you could say something about someone your cousin/neighbour/friend worked with who was dismissed for using abusive language in the workplace even though they were "just being funny". That might get her to stfu.

Omg they're so not influencing anyone with a titter of wit surely. Time wasters.
DuckyNoMates · 19/03/2022 06:25

How ridiculous. I hope she gets sacked.

Luredbyapomegranate · 19/03/2022 06:34

It’s embarrassing, but will be power play, albeit fairly harmless.

Why don’t you have a chat with the Uber manager, say that everyone is finding it a bit embarrassing and weird, and obviously bitch is becoming an increasingly unacceptable word (it is), so could they have a quiet word with her so she doesn’t embarrass herself (add a head tilt if you like).

GracieLouFreeebush · 19/03/2022 06:34

Is she Leslie Chow?

To not want to be called a ‘dickhead’/‘bitch’ at work?
dworky · 19/03/2022 06:51

Aside from personal feelings, it's just totally inappropriate for a workplace. Why has no-one pulled her up?

SickAndTiredAgain · 19/03/2022 06:52

She sounds extremely tedious.

MrsElm · 19/03/2022 06:55

Does anyone respond to her? I would just raise my eyebrow and ignore.

catfunk · 19/03/2022 06:59

I'd just stare at her looking confused and say 'sorry?'
Every. Single, time.
When she has to Keep repeating is she'll soon realise how fucking stupid she sounds.

Keladrythesaviour · 19/03/2022 07:00

Just respond to any emails she sends you with "hi Bitch" and when she questions it say "oh I thought that was how we referred to each other now"

if you do this I'm not responsible for the consequences

DuckyNoMates · 19/03/2022 07:03

That's a good idea
itssunnytoday · 19/03/2022 07:06

That's hilarious hahaha I do that with my friends and sisters but would never do it at work lol so YANBU

Thatsplentyjack · 19/03/2022 07:14

Next time shout back "morning cunt".

Nietzschethehiker · 19/03/2022 07:16

I've had this in workplaces before. It's always someone who seems confidant but is actually unbelievably low in self esteem because its the best they can do to seem edgy and funny.

If you tackle it head on they'll twist it to you being uptight. Honestly the only way to stop it is gently mock it. Roll your eyes when they do it. Make sure they see it but not direct it to them or blank stare at them if they say it directly to you and raise an eye brow, shake your head and turn away.

Meh in truth feel a bit sorry for them, I have worked in so many places where its an irreverent workplace but people with brains still know how to behave. People like this are just a bit pathetic to be honest.

Peasock · 19/03/2022 07:18

Ew no sounds insufferable, I'd hate this as well.

FlamingoQueen · 19/03/2022 07:24

Can you record her saying it? Maybe not to use immediately, but one day you may need the proof.
I think if someone said that to me, I’d reply ‘morning bitch’ back, but in a nasty way!
Totally inappropriate!

THisbackwithavengeance · 19/03/2022 07:28

@Thatsplentyjack

Next time shout back "morning cunt".
Do this. In a Barbara Windsor accent.

I've worked in some places where the language and "banter" would make your hair curl but you have to really know your audience.

clpsmum · 19/03/2022 07:34

I'd be tempted to reply good morning cunt very loudly and see how she responds
