To not want to be called a ‘dickhead’/‘bitch’ at work?

pudridpudding · 19/03/2022 05:10

A woman I work with flounces in at the start of her shift yelling out: “Morning, dickheads/bitches!”

She isn’t my boss (though seems to think she is, along with everyone else), but she is responsible for a few people.

I find it childish, unprofessional and annoying. I suspect she thinks it makes her seem edgy.

AIBU to not want to hear it?

@itssunnytoday

That's hilarious hahaha I do that with my friends and sisters but would never do it at work lol so YANBU
How is it "hilarious"? Do you not like your friends?
TEH82 · 19/03/2022 07:38

Just tell her
Next time she says it say you don’t appreciate that language

Mummytobe93 · 19/03/2022 07:46

Omg @pudridpudding does her name starts with a “B” by any chance? 🤭😂

It was notorious in care industry, I remember male manager sitting down in the sofa between all females saying “just me and my bitches” 🙄 He was gay so it somehow made everyone more forgiving of such comments.

pictish · 19/03/2022 07:59

@clpsmum

I'd be tempted to reply good morning cunt very loudly and see how she responds
My line manager is a bit of this persuasion too. I give her the middle finger in response…she just laughs.
LadyPropane · 19/03/2022 08:48

@GracieLouFreeebush

Is she Leslie Chow?
Ah, yes, of course! I forgot about this guy. You've just reminded us all of one of the only people on the planet who can actually pull off this sort of behaviour.

OP, is your colleague Leslie Chow? If not, she should probably pipe down.

donquixotedelamancha · 19/03/2022 09:15

Ask her why she always says good morning to the others but not you.

Reply to her with 'morning fatty' (or whatever her worst feature is) every single time.

Announce to the room 'everyone stop what you are doing x has arrived and needs attention'.

Tilt your head and tell her she doesn't need to overcompensate like that, she's amongst friends.

Reply with 'bloody hell you are brave to keep doing that with the HR investigation going on'.

Ariela · 19/03/2022 09:34

I like donquixote's replies !

Tell her you've heard someone is going to complain.
Then complain.

CounsellorTroi · 19/03/2022 09:53

Completely unprofessional and inappropriate.

Longcovid21 · 19/03/2022 09:55

What would happen if your say morning dick head right back at her 😂

Onlyforcake · 19/03/2022 09:58

Is she one of the school age characters in Derry Girls? Certainly sounds pretty childish.

TomHarksPiranhas · 19/03/2022 09:58

I have a supervisor who announces Daddy’s here when he arrives and see you later kids when he leaves Shock I’ve started saying “what?” every time now, he’s stopped saying it when I’m there but still carries on at other times!! Not as offensive it creepy.Hmm

You definitely need to call her on it in someway…..

RainbowConnection1 · 19/03/2022 10:02

I once had a colleague who returned from maternity leave by throwing open the office door and loudly singing 'Happy Days are Here Again' as she danced her way in. We were all taken aback to say the least.

I thought that was bad but yadnbu OP.

HappyDays40 · 19/03/2022 10:07

Similar at work too it wasn't a manager but I just started at him and said really loudly. I can't tell what you are saying when you talk like that, come back to me when you are ready to be nice. This is the tact I use when my son starts...he is five.

SirChenjins · 19/03/2022 10:15

YANBU - that’s such embarrassing and cringey workplace behaviour. I wouldn’t stoop to her level by calling her a cunt or anything else, but depending on the environment the pp suggestions of asking her to repeat herself or rolling your eyes are good. Alternatively call her out on it - tell her to stop calling you that, it’s offensive and not appropriate for the workplace. Does her boss know she’s doing it?

itsgettingweird · 19/03/2022 10:19

@Thatsplentyjack

Next time shout back "morning cunt".
🤣🤣🤣

I was going to suggest responding with

"Good morning dickhead" in return. But this is much better

PaulaTrilloe · 19/03/2022 10:21

Hope it gets a mention in the Daily Fail and then leave a copy on her desk.

Ask HR whether such behaviour constitute sexual harassment or bullying. It's certainly creating a hostile work environment. You could report this as a third party about how you've witnessed her doing this to others.

Send her a mug with Cunt on it

Shehasadiamondinthesky · 19/03/2022 10:21

Its not edgy its unprofessional and pathetic. I'd put her in her place in 5 seconds flat.

PupInAPram · 19/03/2022 10:23

@Thatsplentyjack

Next time shout back "morning cunt".
Oooh yes, this, do this 🤣
itssunnytoday · 19/03/2022 10:24

@Magenta82 you're probably a different generation to me.. they're endearing nicknames/it's used in a jokey way, I don't mean my friends are actual bitches or dickheads, We don't call each other that every time we see each other either lol just occasionally, it's quite common to 'insult' the people you like to their face as a joke ... again though I'd never say it in a work environment

EmeraldShamrock1 · 19/03/2022 10:25

She is ridiculous.
I'd love someone to reply "good morning cunt".

pudridpudding · 19/03/2022 10:30

Exactly. Leslie Chow has a personality and a whole lot of pizzazz. My work”mate” has none of this.

OP posts:
LakieLady · 19/03/2022 10:31

I'd just say, in my slightly posh Home Counties accent, "I find that very offensive, please don't greet me using terms of abuse".

She does worship the Daily Mail…

I have thought to send her a bag of (edible) dicks if I ever get her for Kris Kringle.

BarrowInFurnessRailwayStation · 19/03/2022 10:53

Urgh, so try hard and David Brent 😒

She should be told to stop doing this because it's unprofessional, juvenile and potentially offensive.

I think the problem is that, 1. It's not appropriate for a work environment and 2. you don't see her as a friend, she's clearly trying to do the whole inbetweeners thing where they call each other bellends as a term of endearment, or like in only fools and horses where dellboy called Rodney a tart, but that only works with people that you are very close with, not work colleagues. Does she think you're all great friends ?
