To not want to be called a ‘dickhead’/‘bitch’ at work?

A woman I work with flounces in at the start of her shift yelling out: “Morning, dickheads/bitches!”

She isn’t my boss (though seems to think she is, along with everyone else), but she is responsible for a few people.

I find it childish, unprofessional and annoying. I suspect she thinks it makes her seem edgy.

AIBU to not want to hear it?

I absolutely hate the word bitch and particularly in recent years where it appears trendy to refer to women this way. Its disgusting in my opinion

That's just reminded me of something a friend told us, who took her young (must have been about 6) DD to a Little Mix concert. They came on stage and the very first thing they said was "Hello, bitches!" She was quite understandably horrified. I know that some of their songs cover quite grown-up themes, but their fan-base clearly includes a great many little girls.

I wonder if things will eventually be turned on their head, and "Good morning, everybody!" will be considered a grossly offensive insult, worthy of discipline and instant dismissal delivered by somebody with 'HR: Head Bitch' as her professional job title....

Really depends on the working relationship and the culture generally.

I would find this funny coming from certain colleagues - colleagues I've got a really matey relationship with in general, and where everyone is in on the joke, that kind of thing. A former colleague and I (we're still friends 20 years later) had a very similar sense of humour and used to say terrible things to each other all the time - but obviously there's always a context for everything, and if you don't have that kind of office culture or that kind of relationship with your colleague, then it's not unreasonable for you to feel uncomfortable with it.

Similarly, everyone in my team swears in our team meetings. We work in an industry where that's relatively common, we all know each other, and whenever anyone new has joined our team we've reined in the language out of respect for them until we've established whether they are OK with a few swears. But we wouldn't ever use that language in wider meetings or with colleagues we don't know very well.

We had a Queen Bee manager in my previous department. She was unprofessional. She didn't do this, but I can imagine her doing it. I was the oldest of the team. We were all female. She'd started off on some sort of work experience scheme at 16 and worked her way up. She flunked all her GCSEs. She used to come in and swear and use the Fword all the time. She talked about herself, her weekend and her amazing purchases all the time. I was the only one who wouldn't listen. All the others were enthralled. Or pretended to be. They were scared of her.

@RainbowConnection1

I once had a colleague who returned from maternity leave by throwing open the office door and loudly singing 'Happy Days are Here Again' as she danced her way in. We were all taken aback to say the least.

I thought that was bad but yadnbu OP.

Christ we worked with someone like that. We called her Jazz Hands Jo.

I'd be telling her off. Just say to her its not okay. If she carries on then a little public shame may do the trick. Call her out in the office, see how she responds. I suspect she will curb the behaviour.

But do take audio recordings first so that if she claims you are bullying her you have evidence of this behaviour.

She's sounds like a twat, I'd definitely mutter "oh grow up" within hearing distance.

"I'm going to be insufferable the week before my holidays. Just INSUFFERABLE!!!"

Ask why she's starting early.

Start replying with 'morning c*nt' and see what she says 😂
