To think DP should not be going out after testing positive?

DP tested positive yesterday and today went out to the shops - several, non-urgent - without a mask and we just had a huge argument about it. AIBU to think I’m in the right here? He maintains that because it’s not a LEGAL requirement (although government guidelines are to self isolate) that he did nothing wrong.

Well he’s not going to change and stay home I’m
Guessing so not worth the argument. Obviously most people would think it’s shit to go into a shop for non essentials and no mask with covid

SparkleSpangle · 15/03/2022 20:28

He doesn't even need to test himself anymore. Not sure why he bothered if he wasn't intending to stay home.

Anyway yabu. People go out ill all the time. We are supposed to be living with COVID now.

SGChome20 · 15/03/2022 20:29

Well yes it is extremely selfish, the least he could do would be to wear a mask. I can understand people going to work if they won't get paid etc.

gogohm · 15/03/2022 20:30

It's a bit selfish but to be honest I'm not even testing so wouldn't know

Gooseberrypies · 15/03/2022 20:31

At some point we need to get on with it.

jytdtysrht · 15/03/2022 20:32

It is pretty selfish yes

Chasingaftermidnight · 15/03/2022 20:34

I’m with you. I wouldn’t go out to shops for non-essentials with covid anymore than I would if I had norovirus or chicken pox or flu.

Imaysnapandfart · 15/03/2022 20:34

But if you’re aware you have something that’s potentially dangerous to a vulnerable person, wouldn’t you, at the very least, wear a mask?
I’m guessing all these people saying “we just need to get on with it” haven’t lost someone to it and aren’t watching the rising cases on the news.

Chocolattay · 15/03/2022 20:34

YABU. It is other people responsibility now to be vaccinated.

RampantIvy · 15/03/2022 20:34

Regardless of whether it is legal or not, what happened to common sense? My workmates wouldn't be impressed if I turned up to work if I tested positive.

Imaysnapandfart · 15/03/2022 20:36

@Chocolattay and surely it’s all of our responsibilities to be aware and act accordingly

Changemaname1 · 15/03/2022 20:37

I mean legally no , and yes we are meant to be living with it now but to knowingly have it and not even bother with a mask is selfish IMO

QuebecBagnet · 15/03/2022 20:38

Where Dd works they’re now expected to come to work if positive. They have a lot of elderly customers. 🤷‍♀️ Same for a lot of her friends who work at different places. Certainly no sick pay if they don’t come to work and told if they feel well then they should be at work.

I think people have to realise now that a lot of people out and about will be positive.

Thewindwhispers · 15/03/2022 20:39

Your DP is a total wanker who infected a bunch of people today.

kateg27 · 15/03/2022 20:39

Everytime you go out with an illness, flu, a cold, covid, sickness etc.
You are potentially putting somebody vulnerable at risk. No different. Life cannot stop forever. I say this as a sibling of somebody CEV

EventuallyDelighted · 15/03/2022 20:41

Well, it's not right but in another couple of weeks there won't be any free tests so none of us will know if we've got it.

Schwarz · 15/03/2022 20:41

I wouldn't do that for any other illness unless I was so ill I was housebound, it's no different for covid IMO.

CakesOfVersailles · 15/03/2022 20:41

Something can be legally ok and morally wrong.

For example, there is no legal requirement to stay faithful to your DP but he might be pretty upset if you had an affair.

Surely going to the shops with a highly infectious disease is just not done? You wouldn't go to the shops with chicken pox, for example, or whooping cough surely.

TonkaTruckduck · 15/03/2022 20:41

Your husband is a selfish eejit for sure, but I think we've to act like everyone is now. There's no requirement to isolate or even test for the majority of the population, so it'd be prudent to wear a mask and distance as much as possible for anyone who is worried about covid.
This is the way it is now Sad

Alfredsothermistress · 15/03/2022 20:41

*work

RampantIvy · 15/03/2022 20:42

It is other people responsibility now to be vaccinated.

I agree, but it is still very selfish and inconsiderate to go shoppig if you know you have covid. Likewise, it isn't OK to take a child with chicken pox to the supermarket. There are vaccinated people who are still vulnerable and who are immunocompromised.

How do the majority of you saying that he's being unreasonable respond to this? Many people have no choice but to work with Covid now.
springtimeishereagain · 15/03/2022 20:45

Yes, he's a selfish dickhead.

There may be no legal requirement to stay in, but of course there is a moral one.

Shoxfordian · 15/03/2022 20:46

There’s no requirement to isolate now so I agree with your husband. We should all be triple vaccinated anyway
