Please read the formal review.

Essentially the teaching staff called the police because a black 15 year old girl smelt of cannabis. She was taken to a room and strip searched. She was on her period. Her mother wasn't notified. She was not given the opportunity for an appropriate adult to be present.

FFS even retired police officers are kicking off about how fucked up this.

Then again the report was done by a former ex chief police officer.

What have they said @RedWingBoots? Is there a link?
RedWingBoots · 16/03/2022 15:50

@Simonjt it is worse than that.

You have to teach your child they aren't safe at school, especially if they are good at something or clever.

Nnique · 16/03/2022 15:50

@TooBigForMyBoots

The met protocols need to be reviewed and updated, so this doesn’t happen again.

For this not to happen again, the Met need to weed out all their revolting, disgusting, racist, misogynist, abusive officers, sack them and strip them of their pensions and charge them with Racially Motivated sexual assault.

There also needs to be a one strike and you’re out policy on this type of incident, IMO. I’ve really had ENOUGH of the ‘lessons will be learnt’/half hearted apology claptrap. We all know full well that no lessons will be learnt. These things will happen again and again and AGAIN.

Morally bankrupt, rotten to its core.

AchillesPoirot · 16/03/2022 15:51

That poor girl.

I hope all those involved in this are sacked

RedWingBoots · 16/03/2022 15:51

@phishy sorry I listen to the radio when working especially talk radio.

Empressofthemundane · 16/03/2022 15:52

If they broke the existing protocols, it should be straightforward to discipline them.

The victim probably wouldn’t be in any better shape if they had carted her off to be stripped searched somewhere else. I think she is traumatised either way.

Apparently they are currently on full active duties whilst being investigated Angry
RedWingBoots · 16/03/2022 15:53

@Nnique @TooBigForMyBoots three police officers involved in this are still working on full duties.

Every single arrest they make after this which involved some sort of bodily search could be questionable.

phishy · 16/03/2022 15:55

What's really annoying me is that the officers have tried to defend themselves by saying one of the officers was the appropriate adult and that the child agreed to this.

What did they expect a child to say when confronted by two police officers?

Oh, so if a child 'agrees' then a police officer can do what they like? FFS Angry

Why especially if they are good at something? Genuine question - not trying to sound belligerent, just honestly wondering.

phishy · 16/03/2022 16:00

Exactly. And at 15, I would have had no idea of what an appropriate adult was or what it meant.

Police in their uniforms are so intimidating, I would have agreed.

Simonjt · 16/03/2022 16:01

@Sleepingonmyfeet Well if they’re good at electronics and make a clock for a science project they may be arrested for making a bomb. Standing out is dangerous, we’re not allowed to ‘get above our stations’, look at black women, if they’re successful they’re uppity, if they stand up for themselves they’re aggressive. Racists can’t cope with people of colour being a success.

Can everyone please make a complaint? Numbers should surely matter here. I am aghast that the perpetrators are still working. They need to be tried in court.

Please make a complaint

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 16/03/2022 16:04

I say write to Diane Abbott and Meg Hillier and our own MPs. They all need a postbag of letters showing we care about Q and we want justice for her and all other girls like her

Loudhousefun · 16/03/2022 16:10

The teachers and police officers involved in this need to be sacked, the parents need to sue both the Met and the school. The poor girl needs ongoing therapy and support, change of educational provision etc. Utter bastards they are

Justgorgeous · 16/03/2022 16:10

It is horrific. I just don’t understand why the police were called. There was a drug incident in my local secondary school and all children involved were excluded for a week and the main one expelled. The police weren’t involved and drugs were actually found.

The officers are liars, ChildQ asked for her mother, they said she didn't. Like so many similar assaults by police, they didn't have their body cams on.
ScrollingLeaves · 16/03/2022 16:25

RedWingBoots

“DetailMouse
Are police allowed to strip search children? I mean is there ever a situation when this might have been correct, even with an appropriate adult?”

Only for class A drugs, weapons or if the child is a danger to themselves.

The strip search shouldn't have happened in the school. It should be in a medical facility or a police station.

@RedWingBoots
Child Q Wasn’t even under suspicion for class A drugs given the reason given for the strip search assault was that she smelt of cannabis:

www.google.com/search?q=what+ate+class+A+drugs&rlz=1CDGOYI_enES868ES869&oq=what+ate+class+A+drugs&aqs=chrome..69i57j0i13l5.9140j0j7&hl=en-GB&sourceid=chrome-mobile&ie=UTF-8

“Class A. Class A drugs are considered by Parliament to be the most harmful. This category includes heroin, methadone, cocaine (including crack cocaine), ecstasy, magic mushrooms and 'crystal meth'. An offence involving a Class A substance carries the harshest penalties”

RedWingBoots · 16/03/2022 16:29

@phishy this the adultification of black girls.

She would have been in her school uniform so it was clear she was a child yet the police officers expected her to know what an appropriate adult was.

FunnyTalks · 16/03/2022 16:38

Also complained.

Agree re suing. This girl is going to want some good therapy at some point. Although therapy can only get you so far if you are affected by systemic oppression which isn't changing fast enough.
