To think that babies with pierced ears is not a good idea?

I wouldn't trust a baby to not fiddle with their earrings, cleaning might be a difficult etc. And then there's the whole business of an infant not being able to say whether or not they want them done, the pain and having to hold a squirmy baby still while it's done.
I also cannot fathom a single reason to pierce a baby tbh, when they're old enough to fully weigh the risks and benefits, that's old enough.
What are your thoughts on this?

I’m so glad you’ve raised this issue OP. It’s something that isn’t discussed enough on Mumsnet.

SadlyGone · 13/03/2022 13:45

This subject definitely needs more air time.

Amrapaali · 13/03/2022 13:45

Aaawwww this makes MN feel so normal. Amid the madness going on "baby with pierced ears" thread triggers some serious nostalgia

Thanks OP

Thewindwhispers · 13/03/2022 13:46

It’s so cruel and really unhygienic (and it looks very chavvy).

DramaAlpaca · 13/03/2022 13:47

Ah, a nice Sunday afternoon bunfight thread. Now, where's the popcorn?

Babies' parents deal with the hygiene aspect. And it's hardly hugely scarring. So, not to my taste, but hardly dreadful.

toastofthetown · 13/03/2022 13:50

Thank you for sharing your opinion. Why was it you thought you were being unreasonable?

Ffsmakeitstop · 13/03/2022 13:50

I'm with you op it's up there with Diamante dummies. Horrible and totally unnecessary.

JessieLongleg · 13/03/2022 13:51

I was 11 years and couldn't wait to get my ears down. Also by then it can be a good placement in the area as ears have grown. I could look after it and be told not to pick it etc.

foxlover47 · 13/03/2022 13:59

I missed the deleted unpopular opinions thread so just making a coffee and settling down to watch this one go off ......

Blackbootswithredribbons · 13/03/2022 14:01

@toastofthetown because some people are adamant that it's a good idea and it's a very popular thing to do. I wondered if possibly I might just be defensive.

Definitely lacking in class and empathy when this is done.

HelenWick · 13/03/2022 14:01

If you think this is bad, go read about circumcision.

22Giraffes · 13/03/2022 14:02

Yanbu it's horrible.

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 13/03/2022 14:03

Parks arse next to @foxlover47

toomanydogsandcats · 13/03/2022 14:05

Chavvy....BINGO!

Blackbootswithredribbons · 13/03/2022 14:06

@HelenWick another thing I am against on the basis of inability to consent

The ops fake wide eyed innocence makes this thread even nastier and snobby. Let's see how many different ways people can call people common and thick without saying it. Yawwwwwnnnnn

TabithaTittlemouse · 13/03/2022 14:06

Bless you op. I agree.

foxlover47 · 13/03/2022 14:11

@Ihopeyourcakeisshit how long will this last on here I wonder .... shares the popcorn 🍿

LetsGoCrazyPurpleBanana · 13/03/2022 14:14

I think it looks disgusting. Let the child choose when they're old enough to make the choice themselves. Agree with other posters that it's chavvy, along with huge bows/headbands on their bald heads. There's definitely a type who think it's ok.

TheKeatingFive · 13/03/2022 14:15

I thought the C word was banned on here

Blackbootswithredribbons · 13/03/2022 14:17

@toomanydogsandcats my 'fake wide eyed innocence'? This is a thread for civil discussion. I have no intention of calling anyone 'common and thick without saying it', nor do I hope anyone else will. If you have a problem with this or believe it is 'nasty and snobby' then report and move on.
