To think that babies with pierced ears is not a good idea?

I wouldn't trust a baby to not fiddle with their earrings, cleaning might be a difficult etc. And then there's the whole business of an infant not being able to say whether or not they want them done, the pain and having to hold a squirmy baby still while it's done.
I also cannot fathom a single reason to pierce a baby tbh, when they're old enough to fully weigh the risks and benefits, that's old enough.
What are your thoughts on this?

@Amrapaali

Aaawwww this makes MN feel so normal. Amid the madness going on "baby with pierced ears" thread triggers some serious nostalgia

Thanks OP

It's also common as muck. Sorry.

Blackbootswithredribbons · 13/03/2022 14:20

Also I disagree with the word 'chavvy' because it is often used with references to class and someone's class does not and should not dictate how we view them and their actions.
If someone was rich would we describe them as 'chavvy'?

@Shiningpath

I’m so glad you’ve raised this issue OP. It’s something that isn’t discussed enough on Mumsnet.

It's common in certain cultures eg India.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 13/03/2022 14:22

See, we've got "chavvy" and "common" already. All the snobs are drawn to these threads.

Gilead · 13/03/2022 14:23

Budge up on the popcorn bench, incoming!
😆

Smokeahontas · 13/03/2022 14:23

@Ihopeyourcakeisshit & @foxlover47 Could you scooch up bit? Want another tea / coffee before I sit down? Maybe some crisps?

avocadotofu · 13/03/2022 14:24

I'm totally with you OP, I really don't understand why anyone would do that to a baby!!

Blackbootswithredribbons · 13/03/2022 14:24

@Waxonwaxoff0 not particularly new but I haven't really come across any piercing/tatto threads before, I'm sorry if it's not the done thing

Diamanté dummies? I’ve clearly lead a sheltered life... Suppose they’d be easier to find when baby spits it down the back of the bed at 3am.

Comedycook · 13/03/2022 14:26

Worse things happen but I confess I judge.

I saw a five month old baby in Claire's yesterday getting her ears pierced. Made me feel quite angry to be honest

They always go the same way. People with delusions of grandeur come along going on about how "common" it is and it descends into a bunfight and gets deleted.

I like the tattoo ones, as a heavily tattooed woman. On the last one I got told I'd never have a normal relationship as men think women with tattoos are "easy" Grin

HappeeInParis · 13/03/2022 14:28

some people are adamant that it's a good idea and it's a very popular thing to do

Really?

foxlover47 · 13/03/2022 14:28

@Smokeahontas sure plenty of room and crisps are always welcome too 🙌

Blackbootswithredribbons · 13/03/2022 14:28

@Comedycook Claire's is the worst with the piercing chair right in the shop window!

3WildOnes · 13/03/2022 14:29

Of course you can be rich and Chavvy. Katie Price, lots of footballers…

steff13 · 13/03/2022 14:29

If you don't think it's a good idea, you could just not pierce your baby's ears. That would resolve that issue for you.

MintyFreshBreath · 13/03/2022 14:29

I’m going to say it before the thread gets deleted as I’m feeling bold.
It looks chavvy and I think that parents that do it to their babies are wrong. It’s hardly as though the baby can consent. I had to leave Claire’s because of the terrible screaming of this beautiful little girl aged around 6 months having her ears pierced.
@toomanydogsandcats my 'fake wide eyed innocence'? This is a thread for civil discussion. I have no intention of calling anyone 'common and thick without saying it', nor do I hope anyone else will. If you have a problem with this or believe it is 'nasty and snobby' then report and move on.
I have 3 tattoos including a big cover up on my spine. I have utter awe at people with more, not many of this lot would be able to tolerate the pain Grin

Should we discuss fruit shoots next?
toomanydogsandcats · 13/03/2022 14:32

OP, try hairless fannies next, you will get even more enjoyment from the downright nasty posters.

bellsbuss · 13/03/2022 14:32

I really don't like it, as my mother would say it looks rough and common and it does. Also don't like seeing primary school aged boys with their ears pierced either , shoot me down now

Blackbootswithredribbons · 13/03/2022 14:34

@Waxonwaxoff0 I wonder if they say the same about tattooed men...
I do see why this thread is being criticized now though.
