To think that babies with pierced ears is not a good idea?

I wouldn't trust a baby to not fiddle with their earrings, cleaning might be a difficult etc. And then there's the whole business of an infant not being able to say whether or not they want them done, the pain and having to hold a squirmy baby still while it's done.
I also cannot fathom a single reason to pierce a baby tbh, when they're old enough to fully weigh the risks and benefits, that's old enough.
What are your thoughts on this?

Does anyone have thoughts on whether wearing shoes inside the house is a) good or b) bad?

Sparklingbrook · 13/03/2022 14:36

I would like to see a 'reclining seats or not' on a plane thread next.

Blackbootswithredribbons · 13/03/2022 14:37

@MurderAtTheBeautyPageant bad. Especially if there's mud...

@bellsbuss

I really don't like it, as my mother would say it looks rough and common and it does. Also don't like seeing primary school aged boys with their ears pierced either , shoot me down now
Aw your mum sounds like a lovely woman hun xxx
bellsbuss · 13/03/2022 14:39

@Pyri yes hun she is Hmm

Blackbootswithredribbons · 13/03/2022 14:39

@TeaNCupcakes

Definitely lacking in class and empathy when this is done.
In Med countries it's the norm for babies' ears to be pierced before the mother leaves hospital, my firends thought it very odd that my baby's ears weren't pierced! They seem to manage OK, they don't have dangly hoops but tiny studs.

That’s waaay too arcane a subject for Mn. Who’d be interested in that?

I propose something we can all agree on, like ‘Gender Reveal Parties — Charming, Whimsical Fun for All the Family or Grabby, Self-Aggrandising American Nonsense Which Misuses the Term Gender?’ Grin

vodkaredbullgirl · 13/03/2022 14:40

Toilet brush, not had 1 for a week or so.

Calling people "rough and common" is shitty behaviour, not lovely.

It'a ll about the bathroom bin now. No bins and no brushes allowed. Grin

Oh God this again. Where’s a good shower thread when you need one?

Telling someone to their face that they look common or rough is shitty behaviour...just thinking it? Nah, we all do, don't we.

Dh niece pierced her toddler sons ear...I didn't vocalise my opinion but it looked common

No, we don't all think it. Only people who think they're somehow "better" than other people do. No one has the right to look down on people.
JudgeJ · 13/03/2022 14:45

@LetsGoCrazyPurpleBanana

I think it looks disgusting. Let the child choose when they're old enough to make the choice themselves. Agree with other posters that it's chavvy,along with huge bows/headbands on their bald heads. There's definitely a type who think it's ok.
Do you apply the 'consent' to innoculations etc? It really is a stupid thing to include, parents make lots of decisions with no consent.

If you don't make your feelings known and internalise them then no harm done.

Vaccinations and medical decisions are totally different. The benefits of vaccines or medical treatment are so great that they usually outweigh the child's autonomy. Ear piercing is purely cosmetic

bellsbuss · 13/03/2022 14:49

Plenty of people think certain things are common and rough, I would never be hurtful and say that I thought that to someone but yes I do think it.

phrow · 13/03/2022 14:49

Some parents do not mind that they are subjecting their children to a minor surgical procedure, to which they are unable to consent, in full view of the High Street.

Other parents do mind, so they wait until it something that the child understands, agrees to and is taken to a professional to perform the procedure.

My daughter is not getting her ears pierced until she is at least ten, she can tell me I'm the meanest mummy ever, but it's not a battle she will win.

Course they do. I think those sort of people are arseholes though and I'd judge them more than someone who pierced their baby's ears.
