Hate my new flooring which costs me £3.5k

I dont know what I want from this post . I chose the flooring from sample and now its laid in 70 percent of the floor. It looks fine at night with lights on but looks greenish tone in the morning. I am so upset with myself not making the right choice . it is LVT. Fitter is coming on Monday to finish the job. Still got £1700 flooring left in garage which can be returned.
I am thinking of just cut losses and return the rest of it then I thought I ll keep it for couple of years and then change it. I cant make a choice and on top of it have not discussed with hubby yet . please help me how can i make a decision as I am all over the place with my emotions.

Our small hall floor was 2k last year nearly four days labour.

NewHouseNewMe · 12/03/2022 12:14

All those scoffing at price are thinking B&Q type vinyls, not high end like Amtico. I’ve had both top of the range engineered wood and Amtico for the same price (thousands) and Amtico is harder wearing for sure. I’ve also put B&Q vinyls into flats and it’s totally inferior. Horses for courses; if you have no pets and like slippers, crack on either way.

The nicest I had was pure wood parquet, not engineered which is very different. It was beautiful but wore the worst. Definitely a slippers-and-no-parties zone.

OP - ignore 60% of the comments here and please read the post about neutralising the green. Bamboo also had a green tinge and Google how to tone that down too as it’s very similar. But I think it’s a beautiful floor.

KarmaStar · 12/03/2022 12:23

Looks lovely and is light enough to be able to accessorize with bright cushions,blinds,pictures in the room to draw your eye away from a tinge.that's an awful lot of money up to change in a whim.

justasking111 · 12/03/2022 12:29

My karndean has a green tinge when the sun hits it in the morning and it's a whitish grey colour. I wouldn't be putting chemical on a sealed floor

nannybeach · 12/03/2022 13:16

Not sure if it's sarcasm or joke,but I see I wasn't the only one who didn't know what LVT was
Basically plastic flooring, actually genuine linoleum is very expensive and hard wearing.

Inacountrygarden · 12/03/2022 13:46

Google Buyer's Remorse. I get it every time I spend a lot of money on house renovations. Once you reach the 'acceptance' stage you'll probably decide you love it.

MoonOnASpoon · 12/03/2022 13:59

OP I just want to say I had the same thing with a paint colour - it was supposed to be a neutral off-white but had an edge that just looked wrong and I really hated it. But I was too busy to do anything about it. After 2-3 weeks it had gone. It was like my grain just assimilated it and got used to it, and it didn’t look bad any more.

Also agree that the wall colour has an effect on how it will look.

MoonOnASpoon · 12/03/2022 14:00

Grain Hmm Brain!

@crackofdoom

For those of you accusing me of being mean, or gloating, for pointing out that I think the OP overpaid, bear this in mind: I'm a single mum, on benefits, in social housing. That floor was the single biggest expenditure I have ever made on home furnishing. Everything else is second hand. I mix my own paints, literally make my own rugs...everything is done on an absolute shoestring. I am very proud of my living room, I think it looks great.

I frequently see people on here bewailing the fact that they can't afford to spend thousands on new floor/ decor/ kitchen whatever- because they think that's what these things cost. I have also seen people getting seriously into debt because they think they need to spend thousands to get their place looking nice. Is it so wrong to point out that you don't need to spend that kind of money? To be honest, I find the sheer wastefulness of the amounts involved obscene, when so many people in this country are having to choose between heating and eating.

Your situation is your situation. OP situation may be different and she can afford to do it.

Your right, noone needs to spend lots of money to make something look nice however its dependent on what you like. You might not like the cheaper alternative or it doesn't have a colour you want.

End of the day its their money and they can spend it how they like. Stop projecting

Chewchewaboogie · 12/03/2022 14:05

Had similar in old.house.

Didnt like it either.
I covered with rugs.
Also made impact elsewhere to distract.
I have heard that.some people have primed and painted with floor paint.
Its so upsetting .. try not to stare at it .

freesoul12 · 12/03/2022 14:25

I have taken this photo against light wood floor (another sample - not current flooring )Ours was supposed to be look pretty much same but more creamish. Hope you can see greenish tone in this one

Your comments would be relevant if the Op was wondering whether to spend a lot of money on flooring.

However, the money has been spent. For what it's worth I think OP is panicking unduly. I have similar flooring. Yes, it cost a lot but it's extremely hardwearing, easy to maintain and lasts for many years. My choice.

GloriaSilver · 12/03/2022 14:28

It’s really nice!

ListeningButNotHearing · 12/03/2022 14:35

@TwoLeftSocksWithHoles

Witty and hilarious !!

@freesoul12

I think sometimes it's nice to have decor that's a bit different and understated.

Don't fret, if it upsets you that much it can always be changed.
I would sleep on it and make your decision tomorrow.

Thumpkin · 12/03/2022 14:37

@Sooverthemill

I've used many professional decorators and none has hated the farrow and ball or the little greene paint I usually use. I think that's a myth like fitters 'hating' ikea kitchens
I’ve just renovated my entire house and all three decorators on the job (not from the same company, either) told me they hate it! Dulux, Little Greene and Tikkurilla were the ones they all agreed were best. I wrote the names down so I knew for next time.
freesoul12 · 12/03/2022 15:14

@Quitelikeit

What if it is your eyesight? Can your husband see the green tinge? Is it even possible for something that colour to have a green tinge? Can the tradesmen see it?
My eyesight is perfectly fine.

Go with the green and add some fabulous pictures of plants and jungle animals to the room and cushions in green velvets. Green is very n'right now.

Theluggage15 · 12/03/2022 15:27

I see what you mean by the last photo, I like it but understand if it’s not what you wanted, agree with other posters that it could be mitigated by changes to the walls etc.

We’ve just spent £3.5k on new carpet that was laid last week. I’m breathing a massive sigh of relief that I like it. It’s so difficult to judge what flooring will look like when fitted.

We’re also having some decorating done and our decorators turned their noses up at Farrow and Ball and recommended Little Greene or Library.

And what do you think is more important - that you like the colour and the finish at the end of it or that the decorator likes painting it?

Some decorators don’t even notice the difference between the brands and colour matches

Dulux colours, including its Heritage line are fairly unsubtle.

Yes I can, posters are right it can be offset with the right paint, but at the same time if you live with it for a bit you’ll probably stop minding after a while.

The paint and paper library is RIBA as I mentioned above - they’re good and they have a wide range of colours. But having used all of them F&B modern emulsion really isn’t any different at the end of it.

freesoul12 · 12/03/2022 15:53

@Harrysutton

OP I hated my LTV when it was first laid. Love it now and people comment on it when they come in. I remember thinking mine was a funny shade in the morning sun and can honestly say it’s not something I’ve noticed/ thought about for the two years it has been in.
That's reassuring.

@bluejelly

I was about to come on and mention lighting. A new bulb can totally change the colour of a room.
We have downlights which are warm yellow color , I can try white LED ones
