Hate my new flooring which costs me £3.5k

I dont know what I want from this post . I chose the flooring from sample and now its laid in 70 percent of the floor. It looks fine at night with lights on but looks greenish tone in the morning. I am so upset with myself not making the right choice . it is LVT. Fitter is coming on Monday to finish the job. Still got £1700 flooring left in garage which can be returned.
I am thinking of just cut losses and return the rest of it then I thought I ll keep it for couple of years and then change it. I cant make a choice and on top of it have not discussed with hubby yet . please help me how can i make a decision as I am all over the place with my emotions.

Definitely change the magnolia walls. Magnolia is on the pink side, you need to choose a white that is on the green side. PP said Jasmine white by dulux and I agree. It's a slightly off white paint that is greener rather than yellow or pink in tone and it will compliment the floor.

If you go another pink toned white it will make the floor look green still.

Or you could paint the walls green. FB breakfast room green is lovely and the floor wont look at all green against it.

Sunsetmom · 12/03/2022 09:23

Looks lovely!

lunar1 · 12/03/2022 09:25

I have a very similar colour amtico flooring. The walls have been painted a very light grey, almost white and it looks lovely and bright. I think it would look awful with magnolia walls.

NinaDefoe · 12/03/2022 09:27

Look at your floor with magnolia here (see pic) The magnolia matches some of the tones in the wood but accentuates the green. Makes the green more obvious because it doesn’t sit well with the colour of the walls.

It's inoffensive, looks totally fine. Struggling to see how it can look green. I quite often hate new things as I'm so used to the before, takes some time to accept it then hopefully you will like it.

NinaDefoe · 12/03/2022 09:30

Now look at colours with the same undertone as your floor. There isn’t a clash so the green undertone in the floor isn’t accentuated, it’s neutralised.

(Even the actual green paint next to your floor makes it look warmer and not at all green).

That looks like the colour LVT we had fitted in DDs room cost about £1100 march 2020 ( weekend before lockdown). We were also nervous afterwards but with furniture in it looks fine, very neutral. For us it’s perfect as I can push her wheelchair over it with ease and it’s easy to keep clean. I always panic about expensive hard to change stuff but a few weeks later I usually like it!

NinaDefoe · 12/03/2022 09:34

BTW... It’s gorgeous floor! You just need to paint your walls 😁

Sooverthemill · 12/03/2022 09:34

Agree with colour of walls ideas. We have a farrow and ball old white and it definitely doesn’t make it green. Much more grey

Hellolittlestar · 12/03/2022 09:34

Looks lovely to me

DespairingHomeowner · 12/03/2022 09:35

Agree with PPs that the solution here is to repaint your walls

I had this in a previous house : painted walls a beautiful pale blue, they looked purple & floor looked orange! I got the Dulux out & problem solved

OP: Timeless is a v neutral shade but try a few testers

NinaDefoe · 12/03/2022 09:41

I really love colour but one of the reasons I haven’t decorated for so long is because it’s such a headache. Colour combinations are hard to get right.

Abut off topic but hair colourists know their stuff. They would able to explain colour undertones/ warm/ cool colours really well.

user1471538283 · 12/03/2022 09:45

I think with white walls it will be ok. Maybe paint a bit near the floor?

If you really hate I would cut your losses and try and sell it secondhand.

WilsonMilson · 12/03/2022 09:46

I actually like your floor. It’s probably the walls and perhaps the kitchen units that are enhancing this green tinge, although I really like green and have pale green/stone colour on my walls in kitchen/sunroom.

We had LVT laid in kitchen a couple of years ago, it’s a big space with a sunroom. I bloody hate it and it was around £2000 so not changing it. I like the colour but I hate the finish, feels cheap but wasn’t. On the positive, it’s warmish underfoot and it’s forgiving if you drop something, it doesn’t tend to smash, but it’s easy to get scratches on, and take divots out of when you drop a knife or something. Also, because the sunroom gets very warm in summer, the tiles have developed a rise in them at the joints. It’s only for half the year, but it’s awful and lumpy in the sunroom in summer. It’s not a fault of fitting I’m told as there were ample spaces left for expansion, it’s just the nature of the tile if fitted to be floating. I wouldn’t get lvt again, I might get Amtico which is glued to the floor.

Mcmafia · 12/03/2022 09:48

I would go for a putty colour on the walls rather than white. It will blend better. The floor looks fine though.

Inastatus · 12/03/2022 09:48

I like it and agree with others that once it’s finished, you’ve painted the walls and put furniture back in you won’t notice the green tinge.

Tiddlesthecat · 12/03/2022 09:51

I think that it looks lovely. Just get the job finished off. Then explore paint options for the walls. It probably looks greener due to it contrasting with other colours close by. A small change in wall colour tone could tie it all in. I think that you are panicking and you need to just give it a chance.

Choux · 12/03/2022 09:53

When we renovated I found myself staring at each new item / colour and second guessing it. When it was finished and there was furniture, pictures, curtains, rugs etc to also catch your eye and break up the expanse of floor or wall my concerns about individual items vanished.

I'd carry on with the fitting and, if needed, adjust the wall colour later. Better for your pocket and the planet.

Weepingwillows12 · 12/03/2022 09:56

I think it looks nice. I would finish it and then give it a few months. I am a huge worrier and find I dislike any new thing initially and think I made the wrong choice but then over a few weeks get more used to the change and often end up happy. It may just be the newness of it.

Lolapusht · 12/03/2022 09:59

Can you play around with your lighting? Change bulbs, get some colour changing smart bulbs, get a lamp shade with a coloured inside. Lighting makes a massive difference to how something looks, you’ll notice a difference at different times of day and year.

@fruitbrewhaha - definitely change walls - friend has FB breakfast room green and I’ve seen jasmine white (not in a kitchen) and it looks lovely.

Or paint flooring.

Gonnagetgoing · 12/03/2022 10:01

Agree with lighting change too which makes a big difference

Scianel · 12/03/2022 10:01

OP when we had our kitchen done we got Karndean grey flooring put in and it looked so much lighter than we expected, DH in particular hated it. The kitchen walls then were cream white - kind of like magnolia but lighter.
We repainted them an off-white with a grey/blue tinge and and the floor suddenly looked great the whole kitchen looked tied together.

There honestly doesn't look anything wrong with it to me anyway. It's just new and you're adjusting. But yes changing the wall colour does make all the difference.

PantsandBoots · 12/03/2022 10:02

We returned some LVT and were charged a penalty restock fee of 40% Shock

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 12/03/2022 10:03

@nannybeach

What is LVT?
LVT = Low Voltage Teenager.

They move about slowly and don't have enough energy to talk. They can only utter monosyllabic sounds.
They have to sleep a lot to recharge themselves, although they can get an induction charge from gripping a mobile phone.
