Good looking and a good voice - I'm not on tiktok so this singer is new to me!
Even the song seems ok!

@Annoyedtoomuch

I laughed out loud at this. We are hated in Europe.
The UK is in Europe.
SheldonsStainedSpot · 10/03/2022 19:03

Ah booo, it’s not all political. We don’t win because we never promote the song. The year we did actually promote it all over Europe, we came fifth. That’s a good result. Nowadays the first time most of Europe hears our song is on the actual night. Meanwhile other songs are hitting the charts in other countries weeks before the final.

JustLurkingAway · 10/03/2022 19:04

Love people saying we'll never win because people don't like us...if you listen to the songs other countries send it's simply because they put far much more effort than we do into it.

We keep using the same formula in the hope it'll pay off eventually, need to switch it up!

Saying that, this year's song is definitely an improvement so hopefully headed in the right directionGrin

WeDontShutUpAboutBruno · 10/03/2022 19:05

@Polyanthus2

I don't think I meant that we might win - more that we'll get more than nul point!
He is fantastic, the song is pretty meh though, no oversized Styrofoam trumpets this year to jazz it up either 🤣
Bitofachinwag · 10/03/2022 19:05

We could have the best song in the concert and we won't win. Too many countries voting for their neighbours. It's bullshit. We need to leave it

The UK has plenty of neighbors.

HoneyFlowers · 10/03/2022 19:05

We never use to be hated ... In 70's, 80's and 90's always in top ten at least.

JustLurkingAway · 10/03/2022 19:06

Forgot to add, neighbour voting is 100% a thing, however it's not enough for someone to win just based off that, they have to have a good song/singer/staging normally!

MurmuratingStarling · 10/03/2022 19:06

@Annoyedtoomuch

We are hated in Europe BY THE EU.

Fixed that for you.

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 10/03/2022 19:07

I dont think we'll get no points but don't think be the 2nd side of the table. Our songs don't get promoted enough and the staging is always so bland! Just get forgotten about. Nothing usually stands out..then you have the lack of votes from other countries lol.

True, but in those days the competition was rubbish apart from Abba and the Irish

Nowhere NEAR the amount of other certain countries.

Ukraine’s entrant was decided on 22nd February, just before the invasion started.

If Ukraine did win, would they be capable of hosting next year as is tradition?

Tillymintpolo · 10/03/2022 19:08

In the 70’s and 80’s the iron curtain hadnt come down and there wasn’t a plethora of Baltic states all voting for each other

WeDontShutUpAboutBruno · 10/03/2022 19:09

If the Ukraine does win they will likely nominate another country to host for them, that's what would happen if Australia win.

THIS! ^
JustLurkingAway · 10/03/2022 19:10

Ukraine will definitely do well if not win, can't say they wouldn't deserve it either because the songs good!

Polyanthus2 · 10/03/2022 19:11

Well, Ukraine's song is not that great - however I think they could tweak things and make it a comment on Russia

SheldonsStainedSpot · 10/03/2022 19:11

Yeah, we all know how that famous Baltic state Italy won last year because of neighbour voting 😂🤣😂

I do think it would help if the UK Eurovision commentators didn't make derogatory remarks about other countries. The comments can be quite rude and would never be accepted on UK based shows like Strictly and the Masked Singer.

And Portugal definitely won by a landslide in 2017 because of their one neighbour SpainWink

WeDontShutUpAboutBruno · 10/03/2022 19:12

I'm not too keen on the Ukraine song, I thought Nozzy Bozzy by Wellboy was better, but I still think it will win.

MrsTerryPratchett · 10/03/2022 19:13

Why? Will we get votes because everyone is impressed by our begrudging acceptance of as few Ukrainians as possible?

We are aware of that. But polling in Ukraine shows the UK and Boris have increased in popularity. I assume that this is because of a perceived response to the military threat rather than to refugees.

I think our popularity started to wane with participation in Iraq/Afghan wars rather than Brexit. That just cemented it. That's my fuzzy recollection though, I could well be wrong!

ThanksItHasPockets · 10/03/2022 19:15

I take it everyone is familiar with Latvia's entry?

No way I would have watched it without Wogan's hilarious drunken digs. That's why it's a cult classic.

Tillymintpolo · 10/03/2022 19:17

No ones saying the Baltic states always win, rather that neighbour voting didn’t exist as much in the 70’s and 80’s. The former Yugoslav states vote for each other, the Scandinavian states too, turkey and Germany vote for each other, as do Greece and Cyprus. Some of these countries either didn’t exist or didn’t partake in the competition in the past when we supposedly did better
