AIBU to want to know if there is anything that ACTUALLY gives the 'false lash effect'

My eyelashes are the opposite of Marilyn Monroe. I know she got the effect from falsies, but I can't seem to get the knack of putting them on in less than 10 minutes and it feels like something is in my eyes when I wear them ...
One usually falls off halfway through the day.

I've tried an 'eyelash growth' serum but didn't notice much difference.

I tried one mascara where you first put on white fibres, then the black mascara... It stung my eyes and then my eyelashes looked grey...

I sometimes wear mascara but when I do, it usually clumps and smudges.

What have you used that magically gave you thick, long lashes?

Then I watch the next advert, get sucked in that THIS is the holy grail - but no, just another clumpy mascara.

The new MAC one with the mega brush is also good. But spendy.

MrsPsmalls · 09/03/2022 21:24

Use bimatroprost or similar. Daily for six weeks. Then eye lash lift and tint. Job done. I have actually had to cut back on this process as my eyelashes were so long and thick they were getting caught up on my glasses!

ChiefWiggumsBoy · 09/03/2022 21:28

@Unsure5679

I would highly recommend a lash lift and tint. Won’t destroy your natural lashes and they look amazing. Curl them every morning and tiny bit of mascara on the end of my lashes and I’m good to go.
100% agree with this. I've just started getting lash lifts (lucky me has one eyelid with lashes that point downwards Hmm) and it makes so much difference when they're pointing upwards! That and the Benefit mascara gives me a false lash effect, although personally I prefer the Maybelline Falsies mascara - it gives a more fluttery effect.

Great idea! I might start one.

Revitalash advanced is a game changer. My eyelashes are so long. I've used this for years. It's expensive but lasts at least 6 months. I've tried lots of other cheaper serums, they're nowhere near as effective as Revitalash.

Baggiepussy · 09/03/2022 21:45

Would it be any use getting a lift without the tint? I have a ppd allergy.

AnotherSillawithanS · 09/03/2022 21:45

I use a cheap mascara and use faldies every day

Yes. I did this the first time I had one as was unsure about dying my lashes as I have sensitive eyes. It changes the angle so you see more of the lash as you look at it.

I’ve heard the new mac mascara is decent

RandomBasic · 09/03/2022 21:51

@CookPassBabtridge

I use magnetic lashes/eyeliner. I bought a pair 6 months ago and have worn them pretty much every day since, think they were £20/£25! Appy in 30 seconds.
Which ones did you get?

It is but I've only tried the mega brush one
traintraveller · 09/03/2022 21:58

A lash lift on short stumpy lashes is a waste of money IME. Revitalash is amazing stuff, expensive but lasts at least 9 months.

Yes. This is actually the only clinically proven method to grow and darken lashes. Bimatoprost is a prostaglandin analogue that is in Glaucoma medication. It was discovered that those taking the eye drops for their Glaucoma noted side effects of longer, thick and darker lashes. The cosmetics industry capitalised on this and came out with Latisse (and other similar products) containing Bimatoprost, usually 0.03% solutions. It's also sold under "careprost".

HOWEVER - there can be side effects. It can permanently darken the lash line area to a kind of purpley blue. It can alter the colour of your iris, especially in lighter coloured pale blue eyes and can cause brown pigmentation in the iris.
Worryingly, it has also been shown to cause irreversible ocular fat atrophy, where the fat pad around the eye shrinks and the eye takes on a sunken appearance. This is more common in those who use the medication for Glaucoma as they are using far more of it. but it is a noted side effect.

You also need to use it for at least 6 weeks and probably 12 before you see a noticeable difference.
It's hard to get in the UK, and if you order it from abroad you cannot be sure of getting a genuine product so there are safety aspects to consider.

Joanne Multi Lashes has some Bimatoprost in it but I was unable to find the percentage.
ASAIK you can't get Latisse etc in the UK. Lumigan (same drug) is only licensed for Glaucoma and not cosmetic purposes.
Not sure what's in all the other "serums" but unless it has the prostaglandin analogue in it the results will be negligible.

Tight eyeliner followed by eyelash curler works for me

loveliesbleeding1 · 09/03/2022 22:06

Lancôme hypnose mascara is my absolute favourite, lifts and lengthens and really black.

Laiste · 09/03/2022 22:06

@givemeallthecheese

All those recommending the revitalash... anyone got any before after pics you'd like to share? It's expensive but I feel like I'm ready to be influenced 🤣
*@givemeallthecheese* if you have a look at Revitalash on Amazon they've got lots of reviews with befores and afters pics.

I have been using it for years and on the few occasions i've stopped because i couldn't afford it my lashes have gone back to their pathetic selves within apx 6 weeks.

6 weeks is roughly the amount of time it takes for the whole life cycle of one hair. When you start using RL you are really treating the 'hairs-to-be' not the ones you can see already. Therefore beware any reviews saying it worked overnight Grin as nice as it would be, it's just not poss.

The new hairs will grow longer and a bit thicker but you have to give them time to come out and get that long!

Give it 6/8 weeks twice a day (you can bung it on even after mascara if you've forgotten) takes about 10 seconds.

Once they're long you can drop to once a day or 5/6 times a week.

3ml tube lasts me nearly a year.

What i want to know is why has QVC stopped selling it?! I used to get in on their split payment system.

I guess i'll have to sign up to kalana (or whatever it is) and do it like that.

MoniJitchell · 09/03/2022 22:07

Maybelline lash sensational sky high mascara is the best I've used and I've tried them all including the really expensive ones. Seriously try this one, it's only about 8 quid and it's amazing!

Benefit ‘Roller lash’ or Benefit ‘they’re real’ are both amazing and combined are even better!
Which order do you use them in?

I love getting a lash lift! Mascara wise I use Wowcombo My Amazing Lashes, it’s the best I’ve ever used and get asked on a daily basis if I’m wearing false eyelashes Grin

Grin

There wont be a single cosmetic product out there which hasn't affected someone badly.

All we can say is our own experiences. Mine with RL is good :)

I fully admit i'm totally guilty of only taking notice of bad reviews sometimes though ...

Googlecanthelpme · 09/03/2022 22:30

LVL - lash perm essentially.

They tint and perm your lashes. It gives incredible results even for someone who doesn’t have naturally long or dark lashes.

If you consider that mascara is 15/20 a pop these days, having LVL once every few months ends up being fairly cost effective over the course of the year - if you’re buying a new mascara regularly.

countdowntonap · 09/03/2022 22:34

I get ‘accused’ of wearing false lashes when I use Benefit’s Bad Gal Bang mascara.
