To feel distressed and heartbroken re Ukraine’s increasingly desperate pleas for help?

UltraLightfly · 06/03/2022 20:30

You can hear the desperation in their president’s (and former presidents) voices now. They are BEGGING for physical help. Begging for a no-fly zone to be implemented.

I KNOW we can’t do anything as it’ll cause WW3, but tonight, listening to a former presidents and the current presidents desperate pleas is actually quite distressing. Heartbreaking. Those poor people being left to their fate with the Russians Sad

@olaamigo

What is a no fly zone and how would it help please?
A no fly zone means no aircraft can fly over Ukraine. It has to be militarily enforced as Putin will not abide by any rules to be nice.

If there was a no fly zone and Russian aircraft flew over Ukraine they would have to be shot down. A NATO aircraft shooting at a Russian aircraft would be an act of war.

We would then be at war with Russia - almost certainly nuclear war - that means we’re all dead

@userxx

So we have to stand by and watch. How can this be happening in 2022.
Because humans. Mostly men. Some of them love war. I don’t think that will change.
RenegadeMasterx · 06/03/2022 20:53

Isn't it absolutely crazy, and utterly terrifying, that the entire world is scared shitless of one crazy little Russian. 😩😩 so much power.

PlanetNormal · 06/03/2022 20:53

Yes, it’s distressing, but Johnson, Biden & Macron are absolutely correct. The first time NATO forces shot down a Russian military aircraft would mark the start of the Third World War. Sometimes, the lesse of two evils is the best you can do. 😢

Jamoffmytoast · 06/03/2022 20:55

Agree with this OP. It doesn't feel enough just to sit back and send in donations. I think Putin is going more crazy rapidly like today saying that the sanctions are an act of war. If he's going to be like this surely he's just holding his nuclear threat over us and get worse and worse Sad I wish we could step in and do the no fly zone at least. Also UK should be taking in refugees we've only agreed to 50 people so far -that's rubbish.

MaybeSomeDay7 · 06/03/2022 20:56

He is exactly the same as any abuser, he makes us think we have to stand in silence while he conducts warfare illegally. He's bombing Ukraine while people debate whether it's war or not. What is the legitimate military objective? Where is the proportionality, distinction, humanity?

MiddleOfThePack · 06/03/2022 20:56

Putin WILL fly through a no fly zone, just as he's shooting civilians in 'safe corridors'. He can't be trusted.

Jamoffmytoast · 06/03/2022 20:57

I’m pregnant and feel so fucking stressed

There's nothing you personally can do. Bear in mind there will be many people with lots more knowledge and experience trying to put an end to the war. So if you can, take time to try to relax and look after yourself.

olaamigo · 06/03/2022 20:57

@LittleBearPad thanks for that. I wasn't sure what it would be that would make sure he didn't just let planes go in anyway but obviously then being shot down is the kicker.

MissAmbrosia · 06/03/2022 20:57

These things have gone on for years and years and years - Syria, Iraq, the Balkans, Yemen, Palestine etc etc. We did some of it ourselves or sold the weapons being used. It is dreadful, of course it is, but it's hard to understand now why it is only now that anyone cares (that doesn't have a racist interpretation) There are millions of refugees displaced from their homes due to war in the last 10 years alone.

MurmuratingStarling · 06/03/2022 20:59

I hear you @UltraLightfly I am finding it all very upsetting too, and I really feel for the Ukrainian people. I am also worried about the impending WW3. I think many British people feel so helpless.

RoseRedRoseBlue · 06/03/2022 20:59

@Jamoffmytoast no, he said sanctions were AKIN to an act of war. There is a difference. We absolutely cannot have a NFZ. I cannot even begin to explain how catastrophic that would be.

This.
Lockheart · 06/03/2022 21:00

@userxx

Surely we could take the fucker out ?
Well, only if we wanted to provoke a full-scale world war which would very possibly involve nuclear weaponry.

Why do people keep trotting out this shite? If it was the amazing answer people think it would have been done by now.

AppleDoghnuts · 06/03/2022 21:00

@UltraLightfly for the sake of your baby, turn off all sources of news. Stress isn't good for development xx

WallaceinAnderland · 06/03/2022 21:00

This is what toxic masculinity looks like. One man holding the whole world to ransom.

A580Hojas · 06/03/2022 21:01

When the hell are HQ going to make a separate topic for all these threads?

BoodleBug51 · 06/03/2022 21:02

Trouble is, no one knows what to do in this situation.

NATO's hands are tied.

And Putin knows it.

to be honest we are just delaying it

ww3 is inevitable. it will happen because it wont stop at ukraine.

herding the whole of ukraine into other countries....feels like he's rounding us all up. also feels like we[ve not yet met the might of the Russian forces. he's sent out kids in antiquated tanks. wheres the bigger, better tanks?

Rubbish! Stress has absolutely no effect on development and saying it does is unkind.

Apparently the coward is very very deep underground in a bunker in Siberia.
Sweetandsaltycaroline · 06/03/2022 21:05

It is horrendous but I don't know what the answer is. DH also heard on the radio today that Putin is insisting his own troops don't carry any form of ID so he can manipulate the news on how many of them died. So he doesn't even care about his own people. It's barbaric. His own inner circle need to see the insanity and take him out.

I can't believe how many people just don't understand this and don't realise the repercussions that would come.
