Child scared by dog.

My daughter who is five was walking along a low wall when I dog barked at her and made her jump so she fell off onto her wrist. To be fair the dog was stationary and sat with the owners next to the wall but they made no attempt to see if she was alright and seemed almost smug that she got what was coming her for getting close to their dog. If they knew their dog was a barker why didn't they move to side? Aibu to be mad at the owners? Why are some dog owners so entitled? Perhaps it's just one of those things but at least a look of concern wouldn't have gone amiss.

My dog sometimes barks or randomly jumps at people (very friendly but scary as he is huge) I always move away abit just in case.

SickAndTiredAgain · 05/03/2022 17:18

I am really not a dog fan, and pretty much never side with the dog owners on threads like this as I agree many are entitled (the thread last week where several dog owners said that if people didn’t like a random dog jumping up and getting them muddy, they should wear clothes they don’t mind about Hmm). But in this case, I think YABU, it just barked, and they were sitting down so I think the onus was on you to avoid it, not for them to move.

@TellMeMoreHellebore

its embarrassing for op's when literally nobody else agrees

"Dog woofed and my daughter jumped and fell over"

Nearly as good as snapped and farted Grin

IfYouKnewYourChildWasAFaller · 05/03/2022 17:37

Agree that op will try and get it deleted for privacy reasons. Shouldn't be allowed, it's funny

YABU and precious. eye roll

@Boppityboopp

Okay I can see I'm in the minority here but I will just clarify. The wall was no more then 2 feet high and I was watching her. We were at a beach with our dog and there were lots of kids and dogs around. She was not above the dog. If my dog barked at random people who walked past them I would at least say sorry and guide them away from small children but then I guess that's just me!
So a five year old was on a two foot wall, but she was not above the dog.

What the hell kind of dog was it if it was taller than at least four and a half feet. There are horses smaller than that. Sounds like some enormous mutant. Or was that possibly exaggeration?

Lesson learnt - don’t walk on walls if any noise makes you fall over. Could have been a car horn, an ice cream van, child shouting - anything. Would you have complained then?

curlymom · 05/03/2022 17:45

Trashypanda this is the last straw. You made me laugh so loud I farted and my dog fell off the sofa. I better make a MN thread about it 😂😂😂😂

From the dogs pov.

I saw a teacup human walking towards me on a wall that was taller than I am! Her owner wasn't stopping her so I told her to get down before she broke her neck and she was so surprised at being parented that she fell off and now I'm being called 'viscous' aibu?

vodkaredbullgirl · 05/03/2022 17:53
Hmm
Blossom64265 · 05/03/2022 17:53

I’m all for controlling dogs in public spaces, but the dog owners really didn’t do anything wrong in this situation. Your daughter getting shocked by something or tripping is the risk taken when doing something like walking along a wall. It is always a possibility which is why the activity is always just a bit dangerous, even if the wall is low. That doesn’t mean the activity is too dangerous or inappropriate, it’s just one of those things you do have to accept that if you let your kids do, they may get hurt.

Dogs go bark
Children fall...

Brilliant. 😂

If dogs had AIBU....

intwrferingma · 05/03/2022 18:00

Best thing you can do OP is not make too much of this. Dogs bark. Your daughter fell off a low wall. Don't project any extra anxiety. Or your child will become timid around dogs. And errr.. walls.
I'd make light of it and if she mentions it make up a silly name fir the dog - Sir Woofalot or Lord Barkalot. Make her laugh at it.

I've got Teacup human walked on the wall, teacup human had a great fall. Can't work out the next verse though 🤣

BuddhaForMary · 05/03/2022 19:29

"Teacup human W alked on the wall
Teacup human had a big fall
Mum was offended but MNet all said
Don’t blame the dog, just hold her hand instead! "

OP I'm sorry your DD hurt her wrist, and I know people have poked fun at your post - myself included - but the dog and owners did nothing wrong here. Maybe it would've been nice for them to say oops are you ok when your DD fell, but in reality as far as they were concerned it was a non-event.

Darbs76 · 05/03/2022 19:31

The dog was probably startled too, as assume he didn’t know the toddler would pop up. Not sure why they’d be smug and entitled.
