Child scared by dog.

My daughter who is five was walking along a low wall when I dog barked at her and made her jump so she fell off onto her wrist. To be fair the dog was stationary and sat with the owners next to the wall but they made no attempt to see if she was alright and seemed almost smug that she got what was coming her for getting close to their dog. If they knew their dog was a barker why didn't they move to side? Aibu to be mad at the owners? Why are some dog owners so entitled? Perhaps it's just one of those things but at least a look of concern wouldn't have gone amiss.

OP posts:

How could they guide their dog away from small children? The dog wasn't moving.

OP: AIBU
Everyone: Yes
OP: I’m clearly the only responsible person here and the rest of you are wrong.

Why do people insist on posting here if they’re so determined not to accept what other people say?

ArmWrestlingWithChasNDave · 05/03/2022 14:30

If my dog barked at random people who walked past them I would at least say sorry and guide them away from small children but then I guess that's just me!

If I had a child who was so sensitive that a bark could send her off a wall, I wouldn't let her walk on a 2ft wall at a beach with loads of dogs on it.

CeleriacOfTheNight · 05/03/2022 14:31

Maybe if you knew your child was a faller you shouldn't have let her on the wall?

TellMeMoreHellebore · 05/03/2022 14:34

entitled mother...cannot bear this attitude!! how about your kids moves away, you say you were watching her so why did you let all this happen?

WhackingPhoenix · 05/03/2022 14:35

She fell and hurt herself because you weren’t supervising her closely enough. You can’t blame the dog 🤷🏼‍♀️

Oysterbabe · 05/03/2022 14:38

I rarely side with the dogs on these things but this one has done nothing wrong.

Buffalophil · 05/03/2022 14:41

So dogs bark. Who knew?

HabitsDieHard · 05/03/2022 14:44

I completely agree with you op. I'd be annoyed as well

notthemum · 05/03/2022 14:47

@Chloemol

Sorry you allow your daughter to walk on a wall, low or high doesn’t matter a d have the audacity to be cross with a dog owner, whose dog is doing what dogs do, ie bark

Lesson for you, don’t allow your child to walk on walls.

This.
godmum56 · 05/03/2022 14:51

Thank god for a sensible thread

Amelion · 05/03/2022 14:52

Your daughter went near a dog and the dog barked. Wow.

To be honest at that age i would be walking alongside her and most likely insisting on her holding one hand - that would have ensured this didn't happen

LaurieFairyCake · 05/03/2022 15:03

We sat on the bench on the boardwalk (the bench was about 6 inches from the sea wall behind)

So behind us was NOT a thoroughfare

We tied up the dogs under us (to the bench) so we could eat our ice cream

We had to move to the beach due to exactly what you're describing - children attempting to use the wall behind us as a thoroughfare annoying our dogs as they were behind them instead of in front of them where they could see the 20 foot of bloody pavement

I don't think this is fair. The dog barked. I can only imagine if was so terrifying that OP would also have fallen and hurt her wrist. There are no winners when beasts are unleashed on the beach.

Dogs bark. Kids fall.

You really can't blame a dog that your daughter fell. Personally I would say falling is a normal childhood experience, but maybe don't let her climb if you're this upset by it?

curlymom · 05/03/2022 15:15

This was designed as a dog bashing thread but it’s gone wrong. The dog owners could easily have written this in reverse. Dog quietly getting on with a nap, small kid startles it blah blah. Just look after your child and, some dogs are nervous and the beach isn’t owned by you

Mummyoflittledragon · 05/03/2022 15:19

Your dd startled the dog by the sound of it. The owners couldn’t have known your dd would come along. Even well-behaved dogs may bark when startled.

Your dd otoh being on a wall could fall. That was far more predictable.

I really don’t understand why you didn’t hold your dd’s hand or move away from the dogs and their owners. Or why you expected them to move. They were stationary unlike you.

eddiemairswife · 05/03/2022 15:20

A minor accident. No-one to blame. Children walk on walls, dogs bark. That's life.

sparepantsandtoothbrush · 05/03/2022 15:22

You do know there are worse things out there, like people being blown apart a few thousand miles away

I do wish posters would stop with this. We are allowed to be pissed off and talk about other things without this comparison being made every time.

OP, dogs bark. You said yourself it was just sat next to it's owners which means you must have seen it before it barked scaring your DD.

Amethystbluexo · 05/03/2022 15:26

You’re being overly precious OP

beenaroundtheblox · 05/03/2022 15:26

@TellMeMoreHellebore

maybe the dog was barking at the girl to get down in case she fell as nobody else was looking out for her safety?
Wonderful
Yellowsubhubabubbub · 05/03/2022 15:27

Oh dear. Just an unfortunate accident
Yes it’s maybe not polite the owners didn’t go “ oops ! You ok?” But to some that’s admitting there’s any issue. Smile
Hope your kids ok.
