Managers reprimanding staff members on first day in a humiliating way. Not to me as I would have walked immediately.

Nope I’d be out of there

Infinitemoon · 03/03/2022 20:24

DH thinks I should give it a bit longer. Have to be at work in the morning and I don't want to go back tbh.

No, I'm a firm believer in going with your gut. From what you said I'd also be gone.

HereComesTheSum · 03/03/2022 20:25

Depends what happened really. I'd probably give it a chance not just 1 day. I assume you don't need the money or need to work as most people who do would at least see how it goes or line something else up first.

TracyMosby · 03/03/2022 20:26

If you dont beed to work, then leave.

Aimee1987 · 03/03/2022 20:26

I once had a bad feeling on the first day. Boss kept me there for about 11 hours on my second day. Things kept getting worse.
I lasted 2 months and ended up having panic attacks and took months to recover.
Seriously walk away

CoffeeCakeChill · 03/03/2022 20:26

Thats awful how can they expect anyone to know the processes etc on day 1!? It wont get better. If you can leave...leave

If you need money however and can stick it out get looking for something new tonight

devildeepbluesea · 03/03/2022 20:27

I’ve left a job at lunchtime on day 1. Was sat at a desk, given a massive file of policies and no one spoke to me for the rest of the morning. Fuck that.

In your case I’d be sorely tempted.

MulticatHouse · 03/03/2022 20:28

I once left a job at lunchtime on day 2. Just went for lunch and didn't return.
I won't stay in a shitty job.

moonbedazzled · 03/03/2022 20:30

I worked somewhere and at the end of the first day, everyone said they hoped they hadn't put me off and they'd see me the next day. I went home and cried and said I couldn't go back. Of course I did. I needed the money.
As it turned out, I worked there 2 years and had a great time and have still got good friends from there 25 years later. Give it a week at least.

SpikeySmooth · 03/03/2022 20:30

If you don't feel safe, valued, or feel like it's worth the stress, don't go back. Find something else.

Infinitemoon · 03/03/2022 20:31

It is was a Supervision of sorts which involved pulling people up unexpectedly in a rude humiliating way. Everyone felt uncomfortable. I understand people need to follow protocols but there is a way of doing this without humiliating people.

I do need the money and my old job have left the door open but it seems odd to leave after 1 day! Just worried if I stay it will be harder to get out.

I once worked in a job and on my first day a colleague had an argument with the boss and walked out mid training me, came back and handed in her notice. I left after 3 days the atmosphere was horrible.

Run! I quit a job after one day in my twenties and have never regretted it. If somethings feels wrong, it's because it is.
JimmyDurham · 03/03/2022 20:38

DW once quit a job at 9.25am on day one. YANBU.

Fernsinthegarden · 03/03/2022 20:39

I was the one being publicly reprimanded on a new staff members first day. It was horrendous and I was then in charge of training her and settling her in. I left not long after that and since discovered that the new staff member left too after about 6 months after suffering similar incidents. I wish I hadn’t stayed on for as long as I did.

Beachbreak2411 · 03/03/2022 20:40

I’d give it a little longer. I hated my job when I started.. 8 months later I love it and glad I stayed.

FurbleSocks · 03/03/2022 20:41

I wanted to leave after one week at a previous job. I stuck it out for 4 months whilst I found another job. But if I could have gone back to my old job (moved 200+ miles away) I would have done in a heartbeat.

Infinitemoon · 03/03/2022 20:47

Yes how can you humiliate someone who is showing a new staff member the ropes? It was so uncomfortable. They did say this doesn't usually happen but...Confused

DogsAndGin · 03/03/2022 20:47

Humiliation on day one leads to god knows what on day x. I have been physically punished in a job, in this day and age, in London! I knew they did that sort of thing, but I managed to avoid it for 5 years, but eventually it was my turn, and I was pretty much traumatised and had to leave employment entirely for several months.

Leave

Yes go not worth working in a toxic environment. It's an employees market you will find something quickly

twominutesmore · 03/03/2022 20:50

I think I'd give it longer than one day. Anyone can have a bad day, unexpected things happen and one bad egg doesn't mean everyone is awful. I've hated my first day at two different jobs but gone on to enjoy them. It won't be any harder to leave after three days or a week or a month, why would it?

WTF475878237NC · 03/03/2022 21:01

So someone showing you what to do on your first day was humiliated? In what way were they humiliated? If 100 people witnessed it, would you imagine most would say it was done in a humiliating manner? If so then I'd probably give it longer but be prepared for how to respond if I was spoken to like that.

NotReallyTheVicar · 03/03/2022 21:04

As the saying goes: "You can't do too much for a good Gaffer; and you'll never do enough for a bad one!"
