Let’s talk stupid and random fears, for a laugh

To have a break from people being up in arms about pancakes or being vaporised in a nuclear war, let’s talk really random fears.

I’ll start. Sometimes in the middle of the night, I think a rat might swim up the bowl while I’m having a wee and nip my bum.

Also when I’m walking near a body of water, I think, what if I throw my handbag in there? And hang on to it a bit more tightly.

If I have bare feet on the floor while I’m watching a horror movie, they’ll get attacked. Socks are fine.

Omg Wheelie the rat story honestly happened to my friend. She heard something in the toilet opened the lid there it was looking at herShock

I'd have fainted right there and then.
Her son came in flushed the loo and it was gone. Everytime I go now I look first to make sure there's nothing down there

WheelieBinPrincess · 01/03/2022 22:23

😱😱😱😱😱 what?!!!!!!

Oh my god!!!!! It’s not a myth then?!!! Rats really can swim up the loo?!

Jesus. Christ.

I can't run up stairs –especially stone ones –without imagining tripping and landing with my top teeth on the edge of one stair... almost like I'm biting it.

Smash. Crack. 🤢

eastegg · 01/03/2022 22:24

When I’m the last person going up to bed in our house, I think of the murder of the policeman in Psycho when he’s going up the stairs, and I am genuinely scared. Why the fact that everyone else is upstairs and there’s no-one downstairs makes any difference, I have no idea.

eastegg · 01/03/2022 22:25

Ooh how weird that the post above mine is also to do with stairs!

Mermaidwaves · 01/03/2022 22:25

Oh god I googled the toad! 😱 I hate holes too but torture myself looking at horrible holey images! Why do I do this to myself!

chloboe · 01/03/2022 22:26

Vomit 🤢🤢

My friend was recently sick whilst I was visiting her and instead of me comforting her she had to comfort a complete anxiety attack ridden me! 😂

AgnesNaismith · 01/03/2022 22:27

That toad video made my head go numb

Thedogscollar · 01/03/2022 22:27

Yep I'm not joking it really happened. She lives in a bungalow I live in a house, very rarely use downstairs loo now after hearing about the rat 😱

MrsMoastyToasty · 01/03/2022 22:31

I'm scared of volcanic eruptions.

There are no volcanoes in South West England as far as I'm aware.

Mermaidwaves · 01/03/2022 22:32

Yes the handbag thing I have too, if looking out over the sea on a bridge or something I have to clutch my bag tightly in case I throw it, I thought I was the only one!

We had a toad once (in the Caribbean)

@GlitterSquid I agree on trains! I spent 5 years travelling by to school by train and used to have regular nightmares about them...I find them ominous as you describe. Also dislike cars with one headlight out. Creepy as anything.

BorisBooster · 01/03/2022 22:34

I fear when walking the dog I'll find a dead body Shock

mowly77 · 01/03/2022 22:35

@Smorgasbordbaby if it’s yellow let it mellow … I don’t flush for a wee either in the day … possibly a witchy hangover. But my partner doesn’t like it which is odd because he is very disgusting in many other ways.

Honestly at night I do still think of a witch coming to get me from out of the toilet. It’s a passing thought now rather than a crippling childhood fear but still, I’m in my mid-40s.

CallMeDean · 01/03/2022 22:43

This happened to DP. It was an OD. Sad

Theworldisquiethere · 01/03/2022 22:46

Clothes moths. We had an infestation a while ago and I have really bad panicky dreams about them quite often

Theworldisquiethere · 01/03/2022 22:47

Oh also the constant nagging fear that I’ve forgotten something important. I’m never sure what though!

WheelieBinPrincess · 01/03/2022 22:48

That’s a thing that can happen! As an avid watcher of true crime documentaries, all the dead bodies are found by dog walkers 😬

Walking in between cars in a car park. More so between the front of one and the back of the other. They might suddenly jolt forward and squish me

TerfranosaurusVagina · 01/03/2022 22:52

Going downstairs on my own after dark. I have to peer out the windows to make sure no burglars are watching... waiting
Also going outside after dark to put a wash on (washing machine is in the garage) I'm irrationally worried a wolf will pounce out of the shadows or I'll get assaulted by some random passing bloke.

Swimming in seaweedy water gives me the absolute heebie jeebies. Its not quite so bad in a full length wetsuit and flippers but I can only cope for so long before I paddle back to shore full speed convinced something is afted me

WheelieBinPrincess · 01/03/2022 22:53

Bleugh I feel your pain with that one. I had the little beasties in my wardrobe. They are a leather skirt and I then worse, I slid my naked foot into a suede loafer and squelched my toes into some larvae.

We’ve since moved but it was horrible! The feel of it is on the skin of my big toe forever.

Some similar ones like thinking I'm going to jump off a bridge & also don't like to think of the deep, huge sea - really unnecessarily massive, ugh. And I used to work in a parliament building & would worry I would start screaming during an important debate or go & wee on the carpet in front of the speaker. The fact that I could really do it if I chose to was really scary.

WheelieBinPrincess · 01/03/2022 22:59

Yes I thought of a other one like when I’m talking to my boss it someone important, what if my hands go mad and I slap their face Confused
