Let’s talk stupid and random fears, for a laugh

To have a break from people being up in arms about pancakes or being vaporised in a nuclear war, let’s talk really random fears.

I’ll start. Sometimes in the middle of the night, I think a rat might swim up the bowl while I’m having a wee and nip my bum.

Also when I’m walking near a body of water, I think, what if I throw my handbag in there? And hang on to it a bit more tightly.

If I have bare feet on the floor while I’m watching a horror movie, they’ll get attacked. Socks are fine.

Now I feel I need to know the nipple thing. A quick google search just brought up women photoshopping pictures of men’s nipple on to their own.

WatermelonLemonade · 02/03/2022 04:44

I'm terrified of kangaroos Blush sooo muscley! And those giant tails they can just bounce on. Their fights look brutal. I hope I never meet one (unlikely).imagine getting punched by one!

Monty27 · 02/03/2022 04:50

Kitchen knives with wet wooden handles in the palm of my hand nooooooooo 😱

silkypillows · 02/03/2022 04:51

I can't walk at the banister side of the stairs or even the centre whilst walking up and down them. It must strictly be at the wall in case someone grabs my ankles.

I'm a very charitable person but when walking past people in the street who are asking for money, I must give them an extremely wide berth in case they grab my ankles.

RealRaymondReddington · 02/03/2022 05:52

The underneath of boats, in or out of water.
Swimming pool filters.

Monty27 · 02/03/2022 06:03

This is a brilliant thread OP 🙂
Boats scare me too cos you don't know where they've been and I certainly don't want to investigate.
Deep water scares me to death.
I'm a Jaws victim 🤣

StopStartStop · 02/03/2022 06:10

Sharks. Afraid of sharks, even in the house. Holes in deserts that have alligators lurking inside them. MRI machines, so scared I just turned down a scan

millievanille · 02/03/2022 06:27

I hate driving over train tracks. I have a fear the barriers aren't working, or communication has broken down and the train is going to hit me. I will drive the long way round town so I don't have to cross the train tracks. If I have no choice, like if I'm in someone else's car, I tense up until we are over them.

TheCurrywurstPrion · 02/03/2022 06:34

I don’t worry about this any more because I rent, but when I was married, we bought a house that wasn’t very well maintained and there wasn’t much spare money to do it up, as I’d assumed we would. I used to lie in bed at night thinking that the house was rotting and that vegetation would grow up and take over.

AlaskaThunderfuckHiiiiiiiii · 02/03/2022 06:41

Quarries and big areas of standing water, I can’t get past the horror of there being sunken diggers and stuff in quarries. There is also a peat place near me with a whole perfectly preserved sunken train 🤮. I can’t stand videos of cars in water, there was one on YouTube of a guy driving through flood waters in his pick up, the water was nearly over the windscreen 😱

GeneLovesJezebel · 02/03/2022 06:43

Earwigs - I was told as a child that if they get in your ear they eat your brain.

AlaskaThunderfuckHiiiiiiiii · 02/03/2022 06:52

Just thought of another one

I torture myself with videos of people squeezing themselves between rocks in caving videos on YouTube, it’s not natural to squeeze yourself that small, I also cannot get my head around nutty putty cave it just makes me feel ill

AlaskaThunderfuckHiiiiiiiii · 02/03/2022 06:54

And this 😱 if you scroll to 11 minutes or so that’s a nope from me although the comments are hilarious

Once it's dark I never open the curtains/blinds lest I see a face at the window á la Only Fools and Horses, Friday the 14th.😱

@SometimesRavenSometimesParrot

Flying ants. They make me genuinely hysterical, it’s my only real phobia. I’m fine with all other flying insects.

I am also scared of moray eels and that one day they’ll work out that megalodon isn’t extinct after all and it’s just deep in the ocean. The other day on TikTok I learnt that a species of human had existed at the same time as megalodon so theoretically our very distant ancestors once looked out at the sea and saw a shark the size of a Boeing 747. I had a real crisis about it.

Oddly, I LOVE all other sharks, including great whites and I’ve swum with them. I’m also not scared of any similar prehistoric beast being found, like livyatan or mosasaur. And my fear predates the movie

Oh my god. The thought of megalodon in the sea makes me feel all faint. The size of a PLANE, terrifying.
DorothyZbornakIsAQueen · 02/03/2022 07:02

Anything with wings. They are all so unpredictable. Birds, butterflies, pigeons (my god, the pigeons), moths, aeroplanes, bats etc

Frightens the shit out of me

BluesCluesToo · 02/03/2022 07:08

Hedgehogs. They are so weird. Weird looking, weird the way they waddle slowly along, and as for when they curl up in a ball - terrifying. People always think I'm making it up when I say I'm scared of them, but I honestly can't stand looking at them as they creep me out so much.

livelyredjellybean · 02/03/2022 07:23

I used to be absolutely terrified of having my photo taken. On the last day of high school I was a crying, hyperventilating, gibbering wreck where people were trying to take my photo! I’m absolutely fine now 🤷‍♀️

LittleSnakes · 02/03/2022 07:40

@Mermaidwaves

Oh god I googled the toad! 😱 I hate holes too but torture myself looking at horrible holey images! Why do I do this to myself!
The toad is really bad, isn’t it!
Godzillaandgodzuki · 02/03/2022 07:41

Narrow country roads, I got stuck once years ago and neither of us could reverse because there were cars behind us, I'm not still there so it did work out in the end after intervention from members of the public but the panic was so real I had an overwhelming desire to just get out the car and run and leave it there.

It's so bad that I now google earth any holiday destinations and try to establish if I could get stuck at any point, I also live in a very rural location but thankfully I know the roads and lanes to avoid now. I'm told it makes me a very annoying passenger.

Also the deep water with machinery at the bottom causes me to have an intense physical reaction. Exdp and I took our son for a day out to what I can only describe as some sort of water based horror theme park where narrow country lanes lead to huge vast lakes with great big enormous cogs at the bottom of them and as I'm also scared of heights it was all three fears in one place (actual name was Rhayader Dams). I vividly remember the vice like grip I had on DS7 as he was walking across the highest dam and I sort of hunched over and crab walked very low to the ground across with him, bang in the middle, of this bridge with an enormous machinery filled lake on one side and this vast terrifying drop the other. That family day out was the longest five hours of my life.

ShittyFingers · 02/03/2022 07:44

Cows. I’m under the impression that every single one of them has a secret desire to trample humans

ShittyFingers · 02/03/2022 07:47

Oh, and crows. They’re dead clever and can remember human faces. I walked too close to their nest one year on the field and they started dive bombing me and the dog. From that day onwards the bastards would target me before I even went anywhere near their stupid nests … I’d watch other people walking around the field in peace without a care in the world but as soon as I so much as walked into the field they would all start screaming and telling each other I was there. I had to stop going on it in the end.

It was a whole year before I attempted it again and thankfully they left me alone then.

JellybabyGina87 · 02/03/2022 07:49

If I'm lying in bed with my back to the room someone is standing behind me.

JenniferAllisonPhillipaSue · 02/03/2022 07:50

Open stairs with no risers. From childhood I've been scared of my foot slipping through that gap. No previous trauma that I can remember! Gives me the shivers every time I come across them.

KylieCharlene · 02/03/2022 07:53

Irrational fear our fridge freezer is going to somehow topple over and kill our dog or if not the fridge freezer then the kitchen units are going to tear themselves from our walls and kill the dog.
