Just been reading up on this and it's fascinating.

One of mine is the monopoly man not having a monocle, I could've swore he did.

Anyone else have any good ones?

@IVflytrap

I also remember it as Looney Toons not Looney Tunes. Toons = as in short for cartoons, as well as being a pun on tunes. Fruit of the Loom clothes had a picture of a cornucopia on the label. I remember seeing the label on a sweatshirt as a child and not knowing what the cornucopia was meant to be and thinking it was an odd shaped basket. Turns out they never had a cornucopia on the label. Another cartoon one: in the Wacky Races theme song, the lyrics were "catch the pigeon, catch the pigeon" It was actually "stop the pigeon".
Yay! We must be from the same Looney Toons multi verse? I was in another country and learned English from cartoons so remember it vividly. What about Febreeze? Was it always Febreze to you?

Some things flip flop back and forth, like Froot Loops, sometimes it’s Fruit sometimes it’s Froot. Retconned on reddit is a good place to discuss it without the ‘false memory’ narrative.

DoorWasAJar · 28/02/2022 18:46

Yes, the Freddie thing makes sense. But many other examples don’t have such an easy explanation.

I used to listen to New Model Army back in the day and their song 51st State was about the UK being just that. So I knew there are 50 states. Ta daaaaaaa!

April Levine music video to Sk8ter boy. I swear the original video has the girl sat at home with a baby watching the boy on mtv and her in the crowd at his concert. But no search can find that video. Lots of people remember it, others don’t.
Those are the lyrics that's probably why you think it's in the video.

Yes!

This is how I remember it..

She's watching the TV in her apartment, the TV is towards the right.

She gets up off the sofa and walks towards the left.

I just rewatched the music video, as I could not believe it's not there!!

How can I 'remember' it so vividly? Confused

heather2908 · 28/02/2022 20:31

@NippyWoowoo

But some of them I can't. For instance - Australia is now in the wrong place. I was completely astounded to see Australia is now positioned so that New Zealand is at 4 o'clock, not 2 o'clock. This doesn't even make sense, because it makes New Zealand the true 'Land Down Under'.

Yes this was a shock to me too, but I just put it down to my own stupidity. That and the fact that I also learned at the same time (from my friend from NZ) that NZ is actually 2 large islands, not one Blush

I honestly thought New Zealand was at 7 o’clock. Asked husband where he thought New Zealand was and he said 7 o’clock too. So seeing it at 4 o’clock has blown my mind.

Re Hillsborough.
I was at the Arsenal vs Newcastle match at Highbury that day (15 Apr 1989; Arsenal won 1-0). I was at the Clock End. Fairly early in the game an Arsenal fan behind me, who was listening to the radio for updates on the other matches, said to the person next to him there was something going on at the FA Cup semi-final, saying it was Liverpool fans causing trouble again (this was just under 4 years after Heysel).
This scene features in the movie of Fever Pitch (), and I was sure it contained the reference to LIverpool fans. I just watched it again and it doesn't. So I'm not sure what I actually remember from the day and what I remember from the film.

FatOaf · 28/02/2022 20:43

That wasn't Wacky Races. It was a spin-off called Dastardly & Muttley.

Agree the 2nd plane was on tv news in the uk

I was at work at the time and had my mum on speaker phone updating us on the events because the office internet had gone down

As she told us about the 2 hit we all looked at each other and went home

OhWhyNot · 28/02/2022 22:17

I’m not suggesting no one saw the second plane but it was not headline news internationally until after the second plane hit as there was no concern that this was an attack it was thought to be an accident.

What many of us saw was a repeated live CNN report (and many of us will have seen that a number of times) and given the enormity what we saw can alter how we remember what was happening to our own lives

This is quite common with big news events that have an emotional impact on us

A colleague was eating a blue riband bar this morning.. I said I swear it used to be called blue ribbon but apparently not. I then had to look it up. First time I've heard of the Mandela effect

PyongyangKipperbang · 01/03/2022 00:26

Re 9/11....

For a long time I thought I had seen the second plane go in, but I spent a long time thinking about it at work today (yes I was bored!).

It was very much Little House on the Prairie for me when it happened as I was PG with DC3 and had such severe SPD/PGP that I couldnt leave the house without a wheelchair. So I spent my days in a rocking chair as it eased my pain, hand sewing her crib drapes..... you get the picture. Then there was breaking news.

I saw the footage of the first plane and there was a live report and back and forth to the studio and I now do remember that there was "reports of a second plane" and then it went to hell. I think I (and others) confused the footage of the first plane being shown with the news that a second plane had gone in, which is why in my head I was so sure I had seen the second plane hitting.

I was also 100% sure that a plane didnt hit the Pentagon, that there were reports of another hijack but that it didnt hit it's target. I only found out a couple of years ago that I was wrong, that the Pentagon did get hit and that the fourth plane didnt hit its target.

FreyaMaya · 01/03/2022 01:15

I definitely saw that second plane fly in to the twin towers! I won't have it any other way 😑

I think people are confused about this point. Yes, you've definitely seen it. You just probably didn't see it live. People captured footage on phones and sent that in to news stations

WannabeGilmoreGirl · 01/03/2022 01:56

We definitely saw the second plane hit the twin towers. The BBC had switched over all of its channels to News24
www.google.com/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/world/2011/sep/09/september-11-john-nicholson-bbc

I do however remember Nelson Mandela dying in prison (very confused when he became president) and the 52 States. I'm sire I learnt that in school.

*sure

Dibdabs.

I'll never believe they were dipdabs

Came on to say the same thing. Never dipdabs
SexPeopleLynn · 01/03/2022 02:44

I've skimmed this thread but can't see this one mentioned!

In the film BIG with Tom Hanks, the ending showed his younger version in the classroom when a new girl enters with red hair. She smiles at the boy and we realise that Elizabeth Perkins' character also went to the machine and asked to be younger. They exchange knowing looks and the film ends with the possibility they may end up together after all.

But no, complete bollocks and never existed at all!

farendoftether · 01/03/2022 03:50

Dibdabs were always Dibdabs surely? As a child DM made up stories for me about some Pixies called Dib and Dab inspired by my love for Dibdabs.

Also, whilst working as a secretary in the City in the early 00’s, I remember thinking that a good name for a secretarial agency would be Secs in the City after the show! Not Secs and the City as that wouldn’t make sense.

farendoftether · 01/03/2022 04:04

Ah, actually it seems that Dipdabs and Dibdabs were two similar products made by different companies
