Just that really. Sociopathic Patel refusing visas. In a time where we need leadership & empathy & intelligence there's a ducking idiot at the helm & Rees~Mogg making a fortune with insider trading.
Who the hell will admit to being so sociopathically selffish & grabby to still vote Tory?

*A lot of voters in the UK panic bought toilet paper in lockdown.

Toilet paper. Not food.

Yes many of them are stupid. Cannot deny that fact.*

What a total load of bollocks. The media focussed on toilet paper, but go into any supermarket at that time and they were stripped bare of everything. It wasn't aisle upon aisle of food and an empty aisle of loo role

@Riapia

This is the problem with democracy. Stupid people will insist on voting for the wrong party.
Wow. How arrogant. I assume that you mean that there are people who have a different opinion to you and you have therefore decided that they are stupid and wrong?

I normally vote Labour but didn’t in the last election due to Corbyn. That guy to my mind was unelectable.
I’m undecided at the moment re the next election. Starmer is not very impressive and the Tories have a couple of credible people to potentially replace Boris - shame Labour can’t say the same.

@HootOwl

Yep. The recent elections/ the referendum in 2016 show that a large proportion of people are indeed thick/ uneducated/ ignorant/ incapable of rational thought or even reading well-publicised factual information/ critical thinking/ have no grasp of economics, politicis, law, geopolitics, etc. Look how many people are shocked that there is inflation now, after a pandemic and enormous state spending and now a war in countries that export much fuel and food! 🤣 A lot of people ARE thick, sadly.
And patronising them has always been so successful Hmm

Maybe if there were credible alternatives (very few agree with the Greens for example) who could, for starters, stop throwing women under the bus then perhaps the Tories wouldn't get away with what they do

Calennig · 27/02/2022 16:30

@latetothefisting

It's not a case of 'still' voting Tory for me because I haven't ever done so. However I can see what people mean when they say there isn't a viable alternative. Wales has had a Labour govt since the Senedd was created more than 20 years ago, and our health waiting lists are shocking, even before Covid, in 2020 5 out of our 7 health boards were in special measures, worst funded and poorest achieving education system in the UK, spent 100s of millions on planning for an M4 relief road that was then scrapped, same with loads of other initiatives, insane loss to the economy over some of our Covid-19 decisions with the rationale for them never published....etc. etc.

20 years of the same government with a chance to implement consistent policies is a golden opportunity rarely offered to political parties and yet I can't think of one sector where they've improved.

I still wouldn't vote Tory, but it means I do understand why people feel other votes are wasted - since I was first eligible to vote a number of elections ago none of my candidates have ever got in...

Wales under Labour situation always get pointed out on these threads and is always ignored.

Only reponse I've ever got is a poster saying in their experience one service they used in 90s under New Labour was better - persumably meaning I was lying about state of Welsh Labour NHS and local hospitals at the time.

Tories certainly aren't great but so many of the problems placed at their door are equally happening to even worse degree in Wales and other parts of UK. I think there are huge issues no poltical party seems to have a clue what to do about or will to try.

I haven't voted Tory yet but I did think about it last election and still will at next - as frankly not so sure they are the worst option at least where I am.

Nidan2Sandan · 27/02/2022 16:45

The last GE was a choice between Corbyn and Boris. The idea of wet lettuce Corbyn in power terrified me, and now all these years on I'm even more relieved he didnt win. Boris was the best of a bad bunch.

Now, the Tory party has more decent MPs than labour do. MPs who called out the ridiculous covid restrictions, who hold a level of decency. Then you have Snake Starmer who wouldnt know a sensible policy if it walked up and smacked him in the face. He will be led by the woke brigade to biological women's detriment.

And dont even get me started on Diane Abbott.

GreenLunchBox · 27/02/2022 16:47

@MrsPsmalls

I don't vote Tory. But this thread is childish and ridiculous. Half the nation votes Tory more or less. Are you really saying that half the nation are sociopaths? Grabby? Or maybe just a bit thick as they haven't had the insights that you have ?
Er, yes Confused

KeepingAnOpenMind · 27/02/2022 16:50

Our whole political class is useless but keep virtue signalling your right on cred by ranting about the Tories if that makes you feel better.

Graphista · 27/02/2022 16:51

As always on these threads

TORIES ARE NOT PRO WOMEN

1 they never have been anyway!

2 they STARTED the gra crap AND are behind all the awful changes we are currently dealing with in that respect they're just being bloody quiet about the fact they are - if you are deciding your vote based on this you ARE extremely foolish to think tories are on the side of women!

When you ALSO consider how horrifically they are treating public services inc the nhs, small businesses, young people, women, non whites and immigrants, the sick and disabled

AND how they are fucking things up economically

AND how corruptly they are dealing with the housing crisis (or rather NOT doing so in order to line their own pockets!)

AND how badly they handled the pandemic

Then it IS stupid and nonsensical to vote Tory unless you are independently wealthy enough that none of these things negatively affect you.

On paper I'm more a labour person. Not always voted labour somewhat floating voter mainly due to Blair years, would never vote Tory, the ONLY way we have a CHANCE of getting the tories out is:

For as many of us to vote labour as possible (mainly as they're the only other major party all 4 nations in the uk CAN vote for)

The last 2 GE's iirc the following 2 were true

More people didn't vote than voted Tory

More people voted for other parties than voted Tory

If we combined all those voters we'd have plenty of sway

If you look back, the majority of the country votes for left leaning parties but our broken FPTP electoral system means that the tories always win.

Yep also true

So it is absolutely possible to get them out which we really should

I'm not saying labour are perfect but I do genuinely believe from reading their proposed policies and following their stances on various areas that matter to me and to the majority of us (and yes keirs fence sitting at times bugs me too! But he's one person) that they are a FAR better option and than the current shower of shite, corrupt, self serving arseholes!

Admittedly pretty much any party except the extremist ones would be!

But labour has the best chance of ousting the tories

To answer your question. Because people are fundamentally selfish

Even from that perspective, voting Tory UNLESS you are already very wealthy makes NO sense

All of these are very detrimental, and dare I say it, very dangerous for us as a society.

And all done under this Tory govt in many cases BY this Tory govt

Ilovetommycat thank god some are starting to see this

So refusing to vote Labour on this one issue is ignoring the fact that this is already happening.

Exactly

Right now the Tories are the only party holding the line on that issue. (TWAW)

Except they're not. They started the ball rolling and keep quietly pushing it when it seems to be slowing down!

The Conservative party as the party of womens' rights. Really???

I know! They have NEVER been a party for women or children, never.

and certainly wouldn't actually go as far as legislating it.

But that's exactly what they ARE attempting to do!

Migrainesbythedozen so do you even live in the uk? A voting boycott wouldn't even be noticed given so many already don't bother voting anyway

What the hell is Labour going to do any different?

Seriously? Do you honestly not know how labour are different or was that a flippant remark?

The BASIC simple differences are:

Tories believe in a "small state" ie everyone has to look after themselves and gets very little support from the state which also means low taxes as then there isn't the requirement for funding of state provisions like nhs, benefits etc

Labour believes in a "large state" where those less able to care for and provide for themselves are supported by the rest of the population via a welfare system, nhs etc

That's the simple overview

Some of Labour's current proposed policies:

Workers to have full employee rights from day one - it's been a while since I've worked due to ill health, I'm stunned that many at the moment accept this crappy 2 years until you get full employee rights nonsense!

Support flexible working in a way that benefits employees and employers

Inc nmw to at least £10 an hour - low wages are a huge issue in this country they benefit only shareholders/ceo types not employees and not the country

Job creation - via supporting and encouraging British businesses and employers to create businesses and grow them

Employees allowed to "switch off" by not being expected to effective STILL be working at home in eves and weekends - responding to emails etc (personally I think this too would lead to job creation as employers would be forced to recognise they're having employees do the work of 2/3 people and that they need to employ more staff)

Invest properly in vocational training and education

Preventive rather than reactive healthcare

Reform the social care system to properly support informal carers, allow those being cared for to have more agency and choice in how they are cared for

Properly fund/resource Mh care to the same level as physical ill health

Insourcing for nhs etc - Which I believe means no longer supporting cronyism/corruption here! Instead managing needs in house

Funding and supporting education properly from early years to higher education

Ending the housing crisis by building more social housing and making developers build ACTUALLY affordable housing for the buying market.

Ensuring through legislation that homes are safe and habitable

More rights for tenants

Access to good quality affordable childcare in a reasonable distance

For children ages 10+ provision of good quality professional youth services like sports clubs and extra curricular activities led by youth workers trained in supporting youths to live happy, healthy and safe lives and not get caught up in county lines etc

Tackling the root causes of crime - inequality, addiction etc

More police in communities

Victims rights enshrined in law and clearly communicated and understood

Tackling VAWG from the root causes up inc tougher sentencing

Affordable, safe and sufficient provision of public transport

I suspect though labour party has no independent thoughts or ideas that would improve the lot of normal working people in the UK.

See above, read the labour manifesto, read the link a pp put with the key policies unveiled at the last conference...

Labour have always been the party for normal working people in the uk, they've lost their way a little of late but the tories have NEVER cared about ordinary people ever!

And what can we blame for that? Ah yes, an underfunded and under resourced education system that's been systematically decimated for years.

Agree with that but with particular emphasis on the poor education in England and Wales on political side of things. Here in Scotland we have modern studies which teaches children about things like fptp, what the parties stand for etc - and look how differently we tend to vote!

I can't believe someone on this thread is suggesting everyone who voted Tory did so because they saw a meme and because their boyfriends were voting Tory

They're not suggesting EVERYONE does but what they have very likely been told by people who have done this - that's far more frightening!

There ARE people who don't bother to educate themselves and vote according to how their parents/spouse vote, who vote based on what they see on sm, in the daily mail etc

My dad voted on what "the sun" said! When he still voted at all.

One thing I genuinely believe is that many decent Tory voters are appalled at the corruption, lying and assault on democracy being committed by the current government.

Yes the Tory voters I know feel this way - putting it mildly!

Not because of trans people but because of the threat to women's rights

The tories have hammered woman's rights and safety in the past decade in numerous ways INC this

A combination of single issue voting, social media manipulation, and mass abstention from voting for anyone at all is exactly what led to the rise of Donald Trump in the United States.

Excellent point

And don't delude yourself that, given another term, the Tories won't capitulate to the TWAW agenda when they see there's money to be made, which they will.

Already happening

bellamountain that's all well and good WHILE they're fit and able to work- when they no longer are they're screwed! Because tories don't think we ought to provide support to the sick, disabled, elderly etc

Perhaps someone who votes Tory believes that the Tory party will promote and help businesses to create jobs in their community. That is not a thick or selfish thing to want. That is perfectly reasonable.

It is perfectly reasonable to want that - it's foolish to think the tories will DO that because they don't/haven't/aren't interested in doing so

Tories have a reputation for being "for business" but both historically and currently they don't support and promote or befriend any but large conglomerates. They don't help and encourage small and new businesses - never have

And maybe the Tories won't actually fulfil that promise, but at least they promised it in the first place!

No - false promises are not only empty and worthless they're actively damaging - in this case the economy

I say again, if you don't vote against the tories, who are doing more damage to women than anything else, you are the problem too.

I agree

ramalamadingdongs well said at 0934

The problem is that traditional tory voters aren't being protected as they once were.

In reality they never were. If you look thoroughly at how the middle class and small businesses were treated by tories in the past it was never positively. The situation now is that the current tories aren't even trying to hide this any more. It's blatant. Which is why many of us are genuinely baffled why these Tory voters continue to vote Tory

colourmeexhausted just wanted to check something - do you think the snp are a socialist leaning party?

But there's no mention of policies, no mention of laws they want to pass or what they want to do for the people.

Because an awful lot of the electorate can't be bothered to read and learn this and they are not taught this in English and welsh schools.

We need to restore an environment where politicians are here to serve the country, not to line their pockets and give contracts to their mates and where they are accountable for their actions.

I agree but I fear that will never happen.

There are many things mps are allowed to be/so that are clear conflicts of interest.

Also the current crisis in the cost of living has a lot to do with the fact that the Tories have allowed big businesses to thrive while squeezing the life out of regular people in the name of profit. This is not sustainable.

This is what they always do when in power it's more extreme this time though I agree.

This is why it makes NO sense for ordinary people or even upper middle class to vote for them - they do not and have no interest in serving you!

But you're ok with the rape clause... 🤦🏻‍♀️ sure.. really standing up for women's rights.

Exactly!

Plus many other things - defunding the police and courts, universal credit couples claims being one claim (which traps women in DA relationships), the huge watering down of women's employee rights especially maternity rights...

all of our services (health, education etc) are under monumental strain - as is our housing stock.

And WHY are they under strain?

Yay we haven’t had a thread like this for all of what 10 days

Unfortunately so many on the left are so wrapped up in believing that they are not only morally superior but know what best for voters particularly working class voters that they didn’t bother to listen to them

And here we are with Brexit and a huge Tory majority. Well done 👍

The left has been the downfall of the left not that right of politics shifting position

Effectively it was in England a choice between Boris & Corbyn - that simple fact explains how Boris won so easily
OhWhyNot · 27/02/2022 17:14

Why do you think Johnson became leader of the Tory party ? He has always had more than his fair share of Tory party members that dislike him but winning is what they want most of all and they backed him knowing he is a vote winner

It was nothing to do with his political expertise we have all seen him fuck up on many occasions

Ff10n · 27/02/2022 17:14

Yes, I do think that to be honest. They've ruined everything that wax good and proud about the Britain of a decade ago. I feel completely ashamed to admit I'm English these days.
LakieLady · 27/02/2022 18:23

I've been a member of the Labour party for nearly 40 years, but I have a grudging respect for Tory voters who admit that they voted Tory because it makes them better off and they don't care about poor people, because poor people are simply too lazy to get rich.

The Tory voters that I find infuriating are the ones like my SIL and BIL, who moan about the fact that they "have to" pay out £12k per term on independent schools for their 2 youngest because the local state school is so badly resourced, and pay privately for BIL's knee surgery because the wait on the NHS is over a year.

When it is pointed out to them that this is what they voted for, they claim they didn't vote for that bit, as though a vote in a GE is some sort of political pick'n'mix.

Or Tory voters like my friend, who works in the public sector, goes on about how her pay hasn't kept pace with inflation and they're constantly cutting staff and expecting her to do more, but voted Tory and loves Johnson because "he's hilarious", like running the country is some sodding comedy award.

I know very few Tories (generally don't mix with them socially, and there are hardly any in my line of work - homelessness and welfare rights), but most of the ones I do know are like that. They vote Tory, then complain about the state of the country under the government they voted for.

If you voted Tory, just own it, for fuck's sake.
