Just that really. Sociopathic Patel refusing visas. In a time where we need leadership & empathy & intelligence there's a ducking idiot at the helm & Rees~Mogg making a fortune with insider trading.
Who the hell will admit to being so sociopathically selffish & grabby to still vote Tory?

I have voted for all of them at some point over the last 45 years since I first voted. Not a clue who I would vote for if there was a GE tomorrow as I like or dislike parts of their manifestos but none of them really align with my views of the UK. Calling Tory voters selfish and grabby though is not the way to win people over to whatever party you support. Picking out a few dodgy personalities and policies from a party of over 300 MPs is not the best way to win an argument either. A lot of the other parties have MPs with skeletons in their closet too.

Democracy means we all get an opinion even if that does not align with yours.

Cornishclio · 06/10/2023 17:39

Zombie thread.

Mimilamore · 06/10/2023 17:40

I'll vote for any party that confirms compensation for WASPI women and really do care about the NHS.... not heard a lot about this so far.

NotTooOldPaul · 06/10/2023 17:42

Where I live (Rutherglen & Hamilton West) we had a by-election yesterday. The Conservatives lost their deposit. I'd like to see that happen to every one of them in the next General Election

Rich people and racists, I imagine.

What an ignorant comment.
That will make everyone see the light, I am sure

Whammyyammy · 06/10/2023 17:45

Oh look, another thread where the OP calls you names if you don't vote the same as the OP.

Lovethatforyouhun · 06/10/2023 17:47

Blah blah blah yes no ok

Mimilamore · 06/10/2023 17:48

Watch " A state of Chaos'" on iPlayer, very revealing.... I'm floating for a bit but definitely won't vote Tory....

Northbright · 06/10/2023 17:54

I find these sorts of threads with the original question posed in the way the OP did sums up why many good people are turned off politics these days. The aggression towards people who have a different view as to how the country is governed is horrible. People walk in their own shoes and have their own reasons, for voting how they do. Their political beliefs are their own and no one else should be ramming their own views down other people's necks or judging anyone for having alternative views.

Having said that, the election coming is the first time, having always voted the same way since I was 18, that I don't know what to do and I find that really depressing. But that's my own problem to solve.

This thread is from February 2022!!

Northbright · 06/10/2023 18:03

And yet still so very relevant

Booklover40 · 06/10/2023 18:05

Me. What the hell is Labour going to do any different? I’d love to hear this

Me too. What exactly does Keir Starmer propose to do differently if he becomes PM?

Il wait patiently for an answer..

Not sure if you've heard about this, but when you're coming up to an election there are things called manifestos that the parties produce that tell us what their plans are. You might like to try that at the appropriate time.

Typical sneering leftie response. Labour voters get so upset by anyone who’s thinking doesn’t fall into line with theirs don’t they?

But yes, thanks for that. As I said, il wait. I doubt it’ll change anything though.

@NotTooOldPaul

Amen to that. As the great Welshman Anuerin Bevan once said "they are lower than vermin".

NotReadyForAutumnYet · 06/10/2023 18:30

It feels like uk is held up with sellotape at the moment. So much gone on fraud, corruption and avoiding the slightest bit of accountability. Issues just aren't addressed or even talked about. Anything raised is fearmongering - this from a bunch of people that sow so much division and pick fights with anyone or anything to a ridiculous level - tofu eaters for example?! The language used about those in vulnerable situations is horrific. Feels like the longest wait between general elections ever!

No. They're not. 🙄

Frankly ANYONE ELSE.

HootOwl · 27/02/2022 05:12

Yep. The recent elections/ the referendum in 2016 show that a large proportion of people are indeed thick/ uneducated/ ignorant/ incapable of rational thought or even reading well-publicised factual information/ critical thinking/ have no grasp of economics, politicis, law, geopolitics, etc. Look how many people are shocked that there is inflation now, after a pandemic and enormous state spending and now a war in countries that export much fuel and food! 🤣 A lot of people ARE thick, sadly.

Yep.

UsernameInTheTown · 27/02/2022 05:24

Morally inferior people way less intelligent and clued up than you OP. That's who. So off you trot to pat yourself firmly on the back for being such an exceptionally wonderful human being.

It's just about being a halfway decent human being. That's all. Not exceptional. Just decent.

JuneOsborne · 27/02/2022 06:29

I think that deep down and maybe subconsciously, we all expect the people wearing the poshest suits, with an expensive education behind them, and titles or land, or whatever to be cleverer and the best people to run the show.

Look at the types of things people said about Jeremy Corbyn. Looks like a geography teacher (no posh suit), liberal leftie as a insult.

I think the Tories have a good line on this: we know what we're doing with economy, what would you know Average Joe about trade and GDP and big business and why do you think someone that looks like you, lives like you and wears the clothes you wear would know how to manage that shit if you don't?

And so, they manage to get people to vote for them. It's a massive ruse. But terribly successful.

Yep. That's why some people think Tory voters must be a bit thick.

Clavinova · 06/10/2023 21:09

People who like losing £40 billion a year in lost trade and tax revenue due to the Tories bumbling out of the single market mainly.

www.itv.com/news/2022-06-09/brexit-cost-the-uk-billions-in-lost-trade-and-tax-revenues-research-finds

Could you explain why you have taken that estimate at face value?

Your link says the modelling was carried out by an economist at the Centre for European Reform (CER).

ABOUT THE CER
The Centre for European Reform is a think-tank devoted to making the European Union work better and strengthening its role in the world.
https://www.cer.eu/about

Looking a little further on the think tank's website, I see that the economist is having to defend his estimate;

Critics say my estimate – that the British economy is around 5 per cent smaller due to Brexit – is implausibly large...
In a debate I participated in last month [April 2023] panellists were asked to say how much Brexit had curbed Britain’s economic output. Graham Gudgin of Policy Exchange and Cambridge University’s Centre for Business Research said he thought the costs had been negligible. Julian Jessop of the Institute of Economic Affairs said GDP was around 1 per cent smaller than it would have been, adding that the short-term impact was always going be negative, before the benefits of bespoke regulation and reduced trade barriers with the rest of the world kicked in. Jonathan Portes of UK in a Changing Europe and King’s College London said the costs amounted to around 2.5 per cent of lost GDP.

All their estimates were lower than mine – my model finds that Brexit had reduced the size of the economy by 5.5 per cent in the second quarter of 2022, and all three panellists expressed doubts about my estimate...

We've recently had revised economic data for the UK - so at the very least the economist from the CER needs to update his modelling:

September 2023
The UK actually fared much better after COVID than first thought.
The ONS unveiled a series of revisions for past GDP growth - affecting both 2020 and 2021.
Put together, it means that at the end of 2021 - rather than being 1.2% smaller than it was going into the pandemic as previously reported - the UK economy was actually 0.6% bigger.

I think I heard that 100,000 + had crossed the channel by boat to reach the UK this year - way up on previous years - errrrrrrr where are we putting all these Ukrainians. There's already little accommodation for the existing regugees/ immigrants.
I'm not saying don't have them but perhaps those ranting against the gov should also add where they are going to live.

1.2 million people migrated into the UK and 557,000 people emigrated from it, leaving a net migration figure of 606,000 as of the end of June 2022.

In England, there were 540,333 deaths registered in 2022

So the figures pretty much cancel each other out.

There's not a massive influx of immigrants. Stop reading racist, shit stirring newspapers.
