Where would you flee to if war came to us ?

Sorry really not wanting to sound alarmist. But just pondering on the thought of which country we could seek refuge in, should the worst happen?

Our European neighbours would be out, as they'll have their own issues.

So where could we go ? Interesting to think about with all that's going on and how the general public view refugees...

In truth no-one would be able to go anywhere - not enough time if the nuclear button is pushed, total traffic jam if conventional war declared.
There would be no flights in or out of UK, nor passenger shipping. All closed for military purposes.

If you are seriously considering evacuating to somewhere you think will be safer you ought to go asap!

Spacecadetagain · 28/02/2022 18:54

Probably to the next room as that’s about as far as I’d get in 4 mins

BrieAndChilli · 28/02/2022 20:56

I saw a map earlier which showed which areas would probably escape nuclear fall out of all possible targets in the U.K. were bombed. aberwyswth in west wales was on of the places - found an ideal house on Rightmove - looks like it comes with a gun shop!

I think you need to put some more thought into it before committing to that purchase. Perhaps think about short term rentals?

fairgame84 · 28/02/2022 21:02

I don't think I would flee. My job still needs to be done, my family are here.
We would have the option to go to DH's home country in Africa as DS and I can enter without a visa but that would be a last resort.

Libraryghost · 28/02/2022 21:06

@BrieAndChilli Christ .. no disrespect to beautiful Wales but I would face the bomb face first before I moved to Aberystwyth.

MarshaBradyo · 28/02/2022 21:07

@Mybumlooksbig

No money. No car. No passport.

I'm holing up with champagne, carbs and my kids.

Those three things in second line would kick in here too.
Coldgreenman · 28/02/2022 21:15

Just a heads up to anyone thinking of coming to Wales:

Don't come on a Friday. The A55 gets chocka. And Wales is not all countryside.

Libraryghost · 28/02/2022 21:22

@Coldgreenman I have a caravan in wales. Unfortunately I didn't think to have a nuclear bunker built under it though. Silly me.

Insanelysilver · 28/02/2022 21:25

I don’t think it’d be a case of going to another country because there wouidn’t be time. I think we’d only realise we were at war when the button had been pressed and they were trying to intercept missiles heading in our direction.

Scotland isn't safe!
I'm about 7 miles from Faslane so idgaf. Lights out and won't know a thing. Sounds a not too bad way to go.

nanohana · 28/02/2022 21:41

My cousin lives in Aberystwyth - nice to think she'll be safe Smile

They probably wouldn't let him in if he couldn't speak Welsh. Grin

Slightly amused that the poster hasn’t even checked which countries make up NATO. Maybe start by doing a bit of research before picking a country. All NATO countries would be targeted before the rest. The US & Canada being the larg

Angrymum22 · 01/03/2022 21:26

Sorry posted too soon. Us &Canafa (North America ) are the largest neighbouring countries to Russia who are members of NATO. Europe the next largest. I doubt that the UK are their biggest worry but I suppose they would want to take control of the money markets and maybe London would be low on the list of targets for destruction because of its global financial importance. If you want to take out the world you don’t destroy the financial infrastructure. But it may be a small area that they would want to annex. London is very different to the rest of the country, they probably wouldn’t be interested in the rest of us.
So maybe just move out of London.

Angrymum22 · 01/03/2022 21:37

We have a network of bunker tunnels in two locations near us. One was rumoured to be the bunker earmarked for the Royal family.
They are located close my friends house and she has been researching their history. We are planning on doing a recci to see if we can locate them just in case. They should be pretty plush if the Royals were planning use them.
The whole area around us is littered with secret bunkers from WW2 and the Cold War. Munitions were stored in local woodland and there is still a rocket silo and testing station deep in a local forest. We could probably mount our own defensive attack from here. I am however sworn to secrecy so can’t divulge my location.
But if you spot two middle aged batty women with a couple of labradors randomly digging in fields near you you know you’re in the right place.😂

anonymoooose · 02/03/2022 09:53

Yep my mind has wondered here as well.
Where to go especially with no money or significant savings to help me and my three children?!
I have family in Barbados but again I've not been there since I was 11, my passport has expired and my youngest two don't have passports yet.
Wouldn't be able to pay for us 4 to get there, so stay here and risk death. It's a very sad thought 😢😢😢

anonymoooose · 02/03/2022 09:54

@Canyoujustgotobedplease I'm sorry but I just love your name. I say that to my kids about 15 times an evening 🤦🏽‍♀️🤣

me109f · 02/03/2022 23:10

I would probably stay, come what may. Just give me a decent firearm.

If I did go anywhere, possibly the USA as I have travelled it all over and see it as my second home in a way. I hear Boston, Massachusetts is good, although I haven't actually been there.

MCLQC · 02/03/2022 23:22

Somewhere nice and warm with the sea and some wine. I’d jet off in the lead up as tensions mount and spend my last couple of weeks waiting for the fallout to get me.

BigUpAllOfUshereOnMN · 02/03/2022 23:22

I will forget about leaving. May start digging under floorboards to create shelter with trap door as not near underground station

BitterTits · 02/03/2022 23:31

Unless the government have a massive stash of firearms hidden away to hand out to citizens we won't be able to mount an effective resistance.

Based on their non-existent PPE stash I wouldn't like to bet on it.
