Where would you flee to if war came to us ?

Sorry really not wanting to sound alarmist. But just pondering on the thought of which country we could seek refuge in, should the worst happen?

Our European neighbours would be out, as they'll have their own issues.

So where could we go ? Interesting to think about with all that's going on and how the general public view refugees...

DH and I were just talking about this last night. Would we separate if he wasn’t allowed to leave? Yes, we have a child so I would take her and run. Where would we go? Wherever would have us. To think that we would have any real choice in the matter is far too optimistic.

Pomelo1980 · 27/02/2022 19:27

Israel.

ememem84 · 27/02/2022 19:28

@WaterBottle123

We've haven't been invaded since 1066. We are lucky as fuck to live on a rich island.
Technically the channel Islands we’re invaded in WW2. So….depending on whether you’re just thinking about mainland Britain.
LoisLane66 · 27/02/2022 19:29

A friend has a helicopter so I'll be sure to keep on good terms...just in case 😂

whymewhyme · 27/02/2022 19:29

Ive got nowhere to go to so I'd stay

rosesarebluey · 27/02/2022 19:29

@ladygindiva

Canada. I have cousins there. I'd go for a long holiday and then stay illegally.
I suggested this the other day. I got absolutely ridiculed and people accusing me of being a fake poster. I had to get the thread taken down in the end it was so bad.
Friendlyfired · 27/02/2022 19:30

I'm on the west coast of Ireland in a small village... Very remote.

I'm sure I could put a few if ye up if ye were stuck... Just bring some drink Wine

DrSbaitso · 27/02/2022 19:30

@Pomelo1980

Israel.
Is that much safer?
threatmatrix · 27/02/2022 19:31

is the some sort of joke ? @swear

Lovemusic33 · 27/02/2022 19:32

I would stay where I am, I live rurally so it’s unlikely much would happen here.

DonaPatrizia · 27/02/2022 19:33

@sassyannie

I'd be off to the frontline with Campervangirl. Give me a gun!
I hope me too. I have been less of a people pleaser since the menopause and could soon learn to shoot. I will channel my maternal grandmother who did the war with no bother and could have taken down Putin any day of the week with a hard stare.
Gardeningcreature · 27/02/2022 19:40

Another menopausal women here and I can tell you I would stay and fight.
I would quite happily throw petrol bombs at any fucker at the moment, man, woman, child I really really would.
I'd take my chances and fight.

RantyAunty · 27/02/2022 19:46

What about Russia?
Who would actually invade them?

DomesticatedZombie · 27/02/2022 19:47

@WandaThePanda

Scotland Grin
Given that the US stores their weapons a stone's throw from Glasgow, not sure that Scotland will be all that safe, tbh.
Medstudent12 · 27/02/2022 19:47

No. I’m a doctor and would stay rather than desert the wards. Id want my boyfriend to flee though (office based, fully remote working).

Spudlet · 27/02/2022 19:55

I can’t think anywhere would be safe to go if an actual boots on the ground war got to us. So I’d just have to stay and make the best of it. We’re pretty rural here so we might have more chance than in a city.

I don’t know if I could fight, I hope I never find out. I think I’d be better suited to some kind of humanitarian support though - nursing support or something of that kind. I have an emergency first aid certificate… very handy with an ice pack which I’m sure would come in useful.

Trolleedollee · 27/02/2022 19:55

Israel. Law of return means we can live and settle there no problems. I imagine we will be one of many many thousands of Europeans and Ukrainians arriving there.

BetterLox · 27/02/2022 19:57

Lanzarote. We have been soul searching for about a year now for the pros and cons of moving there with two very young DC. It'd force us to take the plunge!

I can't imagine what these poor people are going through in Ukraine.

Libraryghost · 27/02/2022 19:57

Menopausal woman here too. I am desperate to hit some bastard with a cast iron pan. Maybe the menopausal woman's army is not a bad idea. Not Dads army- the hormonal army.

Putin won't know what's hit him.
Frollop · 27/02/2022 19:59

@RantyAunty Russia I was just thinking the same but I also thought maybe all the other countries would just go for Russia because there is no reasoning with the man!

DdraigGoch · 27/02/2022 20:01

@Swear

Well we don't have the right to go anywhere. Because of Brexit.
Ukraine isn't an EU member state either. But when there is a war on countries start taking in refugees anyway.
mamabear715 · 27/02/2022 20:01

Don't even wanna think about it..

Libraryghost · 27/02/2022 20:02

On another note - I am in AWE of Zelensky and the brave Ukrainians. I wish they could come here and I am trying to find ways to help them. I hope and pray I would have an ounce of their courage if it came down to it. In a world where you are hailed brave because you talk about your fat thighs - they have reminded us what true heroism is.

jackieh1987 · 27/02/2022 20:04

Given that you get about four minutes warning, anywhere you can get to in four minutes...
