Sorry really not wanting to sound alarmist. But just pondering on the thought of which country we could seek refuge in, should the worst happen?

Our European neighbours would be out, as they'll have their own issues.

So where could we go ? Interesting to think about with all that's going on and how the general public view refugees...

@wheretogoif

Nah. I don't need to work.

Is that because you're still at school?

No where, I can’t see any hostile country being arsed to invade my boring one horse market town. I’d pull down the Blinds and close the shutters and wait until they went away.

StargazerAli · 27/02/2022 18:45

At this rate, the moon??

onlychildhamster · 27/02/2022 18:48

I was going to write that I will go back to singapore with DH as I am a citizen there. But then I realized that I probably can't bear to leave London and even Hitler couldn't completely destroy london, so I will stay here and fight. This is my city, and I would defend my city to the death.

Strange that XXX years of national education hasn't imbued in me the same sentiment regarding singapore, but I feel that way about London which for many people is a transient place/place of work. I guess thats why its home. I don't feel the same about the rest of the UK but that is probably because I have never lived anywhere else in the UK!

If we have to avoid Europe, my husband has close family in Canada, Australia and Tasmania. We’d get shifting out to one of them.

HundredMilesAnHour · 27/02/2022 18:49

I don't run. I stand and fight.

ElleMac44 · 27/02/2022 18:50

I could go to Australia or America to family, but I am British, I would stay. DH, DC and I live in highly populated military area, we are civillians, my lovely next door neighbour is a Ghurka, we are surrounded by Army personnel, they are all lovely, I would stand with them and their families, and do what I could to help.

ConsuelaHammock · 27/02/2022 18:52

I’ve lived through the troubles. I’m staying put.

Applesonthelawn · 27/02/2022 18:52

We're an island. If we go up in smoke, many other countries will go up in smoke too. There will be no flights leaving the country. I'd fancy my chances in Argentina but it's not like I could swim there.

MrsCremuel · 27/02/2022 18:59

I’ve been thinking this. My grandfather lives in Australia so perhaps there though I am not clear on what rights that gives me or my family - probably none! My dad lives in the UK but has Australian citizenship so a maybe.

But if I was claiming asylum it would be anywhere that my kids would be safe. Literally anywhere I could get to. I’m not sure if I’d stay or go, if it was just me I’d stay and fight but I cannot bear the thought of my children being in danger. It’s making me very anxious.

lightand · 27/02/2022 19:00
@lightand ….Um I’m quite curious to know the locations of these nuclear explosions….

There haven’t been any (except for tests) since 1945.
i am thinking of chernobyl, fuchashima. are there others? i dont know. Radiation links and explosions. I dont know full details. You look them up.

StoneofDestiny · 27/02/2022 19:00

I'd like to think I'd stand and fight if we were fighting for a just cause.

lightand · 27/02/2022 19:02

@Booboobibles

Do read words more carefully though of what people actually write. That is all i will say. I wont enter into a word fight.

chairbumg · 27/02/2022 19:03

I wont enter into a word fight.

well you won't win it that's for sure 😆

PatrioticPenny743 · 27/02/2022 19:04

We are British, we don't run!!! We stand and fight shoulder to shoulder.

BrinksmansEntry · 27/02/2022 19:06

Nowhere. I kind of feel like as an island nation, we don't have many places to go. I don't have a boat. I'd possibly enact my zombie apocalypse plan and head to the hills. But seeing as it's not zombies, I'd find my way to joining resistance movements once I knew DH and the kids were safe.

lap90 · 27/02/2022 19:07

To the other country of which I am a dual national of.

shivawn · 27/02/2022 19:09

I wouldn't run but have a hard time imagining myself fighting. I'm a nurse so would probably keep going to work or helping in a makeshift hospital somewhere.

inigomontoyahwillcox · 27/02/2022 19:10

Live relatively rurally but about 35 miles
from London and, as per the cheerful video I watched yesterday showing the impact of various sized nuclear warheads targeted at the capital, we'd need to get the fuck out of dodge.

Ideally the US (never thought I'd say that!) as we have family dotted all over the states. But, as others have said, it's unlikely we'd even be able to get over there. Realistically we'd head up North to Northumberland and the small market town my parents live in.

Pebble55 · 27/02/2022 19:18

Australia

Summerbubbles · 27/02/2022 19:20

My DC don't yet have passports so we'd all be staying put and hoping for the best.

Francescaisstressed · 27/02/2022 19:20

It depends doesn't it on how much od a heads up you had and if the airports were still operating.
Ultimately, I have family in Germany but they would likely be in the same state.
I think that we would have to stay, I couldn't imagine leaving all my freinds and family and pets anyway.

DonaPatrizia · 27/02/2022 19:27

I hope I wouldn't flee anywhere. I hope I would be brave enough to stay and fight for my country and against an evil dictator.
I understand, obviously, why people do flee, but I find it very inspiring to see the courage of the Ukrainians. Not least their president Zelensky and his family, who are risking their lives.
If - and I hope with all my heart I am never tested - it ever comes to it, I hope I would be as brave as them. I really, really hope I would find courage within myself to do myself credit. I probably wouldn't, I freely admit.
May I respectfully suggest people spend less time thinking where they might flee and more time thinking what they might do to help the Ukranians? There are charity appeals for refugees that could use help. I'm finding all these running away threads quite depressing. There was one person the other day wanting to flee to Africa...I expect lots of people wouldn't be scaredly cats and run away if it came to it - like many Ukrainian men and women, plenty would stand and fight.
