Where would you flee to if war came to us ?

Sorry really not wanting to sound alarmist. But just pondering on the thought of which country we could seek refuge in, should the worst happen?

Our European neighbours would be out, as they'll have their own issues.

So where could we go ? Interesting to think about with all that's going on and how the general public view refugees...

If it gets as far as here there isn't really anywhere to go cos it would be all of Europe at war

BrutusMcDogface · 27/02/2022 18:19

Actually I’ve just realised this thread is 18 pages long and I haven’t read the full thread (oops!) but I wonder how many people who hate the thought of Ukrainians not needing a visa to come here, would happily try and pop off somewhere else? 🤔

ChocolateDeficitDisorder · 27/02/2022 18:22

I’d go to Mauritius - can’t really see them getting involved

My FIL was Mauritian. It might be an option for us to go there.

Garysmum · 27/02/2022 18:22

@BrutusMcDogface

Nowhere. Stay put and hope the nuke lands on our heads.
Yes. Better be destroyed in an instant not knowing about it than lingering drawn out deaths of cancer etc in a barren world. (OK maybe a little Neville Shute but why not.)
wheretogoif · 27/02/2022 18:23

I'm actually talking about getting out before it gets as bad as an out and out war. Nowish, wouldn't be a wrong move to leave the country for a few weeks to some place that is unlikely affected by this. As a tourist, to wait and watch what happens.

I'm aware that once shit properly hits the fan, it's going to be pretty difficult to go anywhere.

OP posts:
CarlCarlson · 27/02/2022 18:27

Nowhere. I’d stay and fight for my home and way of life

If you wouldn’t you’re a coward and a loser

Climbingthelaundrymountain · 27/02/2022 18:27

We have no money to escape. So we would stay where we are I guess.

lightand · 27/02/2022 18:29

@Theoldcuriosityshop

If it turns nuclear it wouldn't matter where you went and you wouldn't have time anyway if someone hits that button.
But I dont understand.

There have been several places sadly nuked since say 1945. By accident or otherwise.
The world didnt just all get destroyed.

nancybotwinbloom · 27/02/2022 18:29

My mums house. It's the biggest of all our houses.

I'd do my best to protect them all from there. We'd all be together that way if worst come to the worst.

PrtScn · 27/02/2022 18:29

But how would you leave? Ths UK is an island. I doubt you’d be able to get out the usual route, and France could blow the channel tunnel up. I’d not risk my familly on an iffy boat. I’ll be staying put.

chairbumg · 27/02/2022 18:29

@wheretogoif are your retired?

LoisLane66 · 27/02/2022 18:30

Dubai. A sort of relation lives on the palm. 😍😁

lightand · 27/02/2022 18:31

@Labracadabradoodle

Nowhere. I'd stand here and defend you all. Because its what we should do in a crisis .
Not necessarily, no.

I go by the Bible for many things. Sometimes the people fled, sometimes they stayed and fought.

Different things for different situations/occasions.

OhLordyWhatNow · 27/02/2022 18:31

@chairbumg

Either retired or a Russian hacker taking notes of likely UK escape routes

🤫

Slipperfairy · 27/02/2022 18:31

What about all those mumsnetters who are afraid of people knocking on their front doors? Or can't talk to the mums at the school gate?or can't have difficult conversations with people? Or currently can't do xy or z because of their anxiety?

Does invasion override that? Would they suddenly all be rushing to the front line or defending their homes to the death?

CarlCarlson · 27/02/2022 18:32

@lightand

You might as well ‘go by’ the hungry caterpillar as by the bible. Both fictional books of nonsense

chairbumg · 27/02/2022 18:32

@OhLordyWhatNow

& that would be some severe holiday blues coming back to a nuclear wasteland

Chocolatehamper · 27/02/2022 18:33

@Campervangirl

I'm heading to the front line if they have a use for an arsey, menopausal 50 something female. I'm serious, if the ordinary citizens of the Ukraine can stand up against the might of Russia we can too.
Absolutely this!
speakout · 27/02/2022 18:33

I'd stay put. I live in a rural part of Scotland, pretty uninteresting to military or terrorist targets.

I guess the zombies would get them first.

Nah. I don't need to work.

They'll all be indoors with the curtains closed ignoring the doorbell.

Seahorsemama · 27/02/2022 18:38

To our Irish holiday home. Trouble is being an island no one can just drive out of Britain to another country for safety- unless you are in Northern Ireland.

Smashedavacado · 27/02/2022 18:39

I would head to family in far South West - we live in South East which would surely be within the worst zone if the worst happens.
But realistically there won't be time to relocate so we would just stay put!

Booboobibles · 27/02/2022 18:39

@lightand ….Um I’m quite curious to know the locations of these nuclear explosions….

There haven’t been any (except for tests) since 1945.
