Sorry really not wanting to sound alarmist. But just pondering on the thought of which country we could seek refuge in, should the worst happen?

Our European neighbours would be out, as they'll have their own issues.

So where could we go ? Interesting to think about with all that's going on and how the general public view refugees...

@Abhannmor they are living In a dream world. In this ridiculous world some mumsnetters occupy, Ryanair will still be flying, the staff happily turning up to ensure other people safety, never mind the risk to them. Then in this middle class arrogant world they live in they can just set up home in another country and Waitrose will still be open during the nuclear fallout of course., It's fucking funny! Grin

chairbumg · 27/02/2022 17:03

@Libraryghost this is what I can't fathom.

Stripyhoglets1 · 27/02/2022 17:18

I posted earlier id stay to look after older family. But me and my mum and daughter would make alot of.molotov cocktails while staying put!

Libraryghost · 27/02/2022 17:22

@chairbumg it's the same mentality as we saw during Covid. Everyone must stay in except the lower classes who run the supermarkets and deliver my Amazon parcels. They really think during a war airports will be open just to facilitate their escape. It's unbelievably arrogant.

chairbumg · 27/02/2022 17:26

and stupid

QuantumHypothesis · 27/02/2022 17:30

@Campervangirl

I'm heading to the front line if they have a use for an arsey, menopausal 50 something female. I'm serious, if the ordinary citizens of the Ukraine can stand up against the might of Russia we can too.
Same here.
Labracadabradoodle · 27/02/2022 17:30

Nowhere.
I'd stand here and defend you all.
Because its what we should do in a crisis .

LoisLane66 · 27/02/2022 17:33

The IoM or Tokyo

Ibizafun · 27/02/2022 17:34

Israel

Yespresh · 27/02/2022 17:40

We’d go to the caravan. Hopefully Putin wont find us as the Tesco delivery man couldn’t Grin

Nomorepastry · 27/02/2022 17:41

I would probably send myself off the edge of beachy head if I'm honest. All this about a world war is seriously affecting my mental health Sad

browneyes77 · 27/02/2022 17:42

I mean I have dual nationality because my Dad is Jamaican, so I could go there.

I’d likely stay and try and get hold of a gun as I’m a decent shot. But in reality I’d probably go to Wales. Mom is half welsh and mainly because I like it there.

Dwrcegin · 27/02/2022 17:47

I wouldn't go anywhere. We'd have no choice but to stay put and fight.

munchkinman · 27/02/2022 17:47

Bulgaria or Croatia as my OH has houses there. Although maybe not the best choice in the current circumstances…

Tictocrobot · 27/02/2022 17:48

They wouldn’t want to occupy the U.K.

They’d want to nuke the U.K…

keffie12 · 27/02/2022 17:50

My daughter has full Canadian citrndhip so we could flee there. I'd much rather go ro live in Kefelonia (Greek Islands) Brexit put pay to that.

I suppose i could try Ireland as my children have Irish blood. The ex their biological father is 1st generation Irish

princesssparklepants · 27/02/2022 17:50

One thing I was wondering about this situation....

So you leave your home to claim refuge somewhere else.... what happens to your home, if it's mortgaged do you still have to keep paying?
You default eventually obviously cos you can't work..... credit rating is shot to pieces. How do you begin to restart somewhere else again?

Obviously I realise then people of Ukraine are not thinking about credit ratings etc and nor would anyone else but it did make me Wonder.

DameHelena · 27/02/2022 17:52

@BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz

Given how disgusted we (as a nation) are at the thought of opening our borders up to those in need, we (as a nation) would have a damn cheek showing up on any other countries doorstep claiming asylum.
I know. A lot of chickens would come home to roost if British people had to start seeking asylum. DP and I have family in Dorset, small-town Shropshire and rural Scotland, which might be good places to sit out a war, although the idea of staying with family for more than a few days… 😵‍💫
LaProfesora · 27/02/2022 18:05

Mexico. I used to live there as a teenager and still have friends there.

MoFro · 27/02/2022 18:05

Given we live on an island I think our choices are quite limited! We can’t drive or walk over to the next borders if we’re not allowed in one country-it’s more of a case of leave now if you’re worried or….sit and wait and then go where you can get to and be allowed in that’s maybe safer than here!

Very sobering thoughts tbh

And will be a massive wake up call for us all if we ever become refugees and need to seek asylum

gogohm · 27/02/2022 18:07

I'll stay at home, where else have we. Being an island I'm pretty certain in saying that the only war that would directly affect us would be nuclear so I wouldn't be around to know about it.

gogohm · 27/02/2022 18:11

@Campervangirl

I'm sure they would, I was watching footage of Ukrainian women making fire bombs.

But I'm sure this isn't going to be needed, unlike Ukraine we have a very effective moat

sassyannie · 27/02/2022 18:13

I'd be off to the frontline with Campervangirl. Give me a gun!

Gilly12345 · 27/02/2022 18:17

I live in a rural location fortunately but i really think I would love to be issued with a gun and bullets and defend against the awful Russians.

BrutusMcDogface · 27/02/2022 18:17

Nowhere. Stay put and hope the nuke lands on our heads.
