Sorry really not wanting to sound alarmist. But just pondering on the thought of which country we could seek refuge in, should the worst happen?

Our European neighbours would be out, as they'll have their own issues.

So where could we go ? Interesting to think about with all that's going on and how the general public view refugees...

@Whadda

Seriously, most of you saying Ireland can fuck right off.

You’d escape an invasion by seeking refuge in a country that you invaded?

But, but, but ex dh mother was Irish Dad northern Irish he has dual nationality and the dc have Irish passports. Thanks to brexit. Loads of people probably have similar.

I’d be fucked though!

RantyAunty · 27/02/2022 01:11

Usually there is a time of warning and lead up, so I would leave before.
Australia, New Zealand, Mexico, Central America

LemonSwan · 27/02/2022 01:14

I would stay in UK, I know where I would go but I am not typing it on here sorry!

oakleaffy · 27/02/2022 01:14

@Libertybear80

Into our 1940s solid concrete air race shelter in the back garden! The rabbits are in there currently but I'm sure there would be room!
That sounds very Raymond Briggs!
alwayscrashinginthesamecar1 · 27/02/2022 01:30

I'm already in West Australia, in the most remote city in the world (Perth). I have read that this is one of the safest places to be in the event of nuclear war, so I reckon I will stay put.

bigyellowTpot · 27/02/2022 01:51

@TheresSomebodyAtTheDoorNeil

Well dp still goes on about the time I growled ' who the fuck do you think you're talking to?' during a row about 20 years ago and he's never dared repeat said behaviour. So I'll be on the front line, scaring the Russians with my face and the now menopausal version of me. 😬
Theressomebodyatthedoor your post made me laugh you've won best post of the thread so far. I'm the same think il join you on the front line 🤣

FredAstairesChair · 27/02/2022 02:43

I have family in the USA. But, I am PETRIFIED of flying. And I'd want to take my dog. I'd not have a clue how to go about it, as I've not flown in years anyway, and never to the USA.

I do have a great friend who lives rurally who may have me. That may be an easier option :(

Ticklyrain · 27/02/2022 02:48

@YellowMonday

Coming to Australia may be a big mistake depending on the players in the war.

A lot of land has been sold to the Chinese government/Chinese companies. Including a 99 year lease ownership to the Port of Darwin!

100% with this. China also own a good wedge of pacific nations via debt. They have a lot of interests in NZ as well.

Added to that, both countries have a relatively large number of Chinese/Chinese descent living there. My experience is that Chinese born Chinese are very very loyal to the CCP and align with them far beyond any loyalty to their new country. Local born Chinese not so much.

Also, neither country has much military might

Scottish Highlands
Yep! I'd go find a little derelict building in the highlands and live off what land is left. I'd say go to my sister who lives in Australia, but I don't even own a passport
Happyhappyday · 27/02/2022 03:45

Live in US but dual citizens so would go to UK or vice versa. Parents have property in Canada so would go there if needed. Bugger all happens in Northern Canada!

1forAll74 · 27/02/2022 04:08

In the last war, we all had to stay home, except for some children who had to be evacuated. Hardly anyone had a car. lots of people had a bike.

Planes were not available, except for war travel for the forces.. you could get on the steam trains though., and the many buses.

Women were needed in the towns and cities and villages, to do war work here,as most of the men had to sign up for the forces, and went away, for several years.

People really had no option but to stay put, even though they knew that their homes, factories and hospitals etc, could be obliterated at any time.

pollyglot · 27/02/2022 04:19

I think at last MrGlot is glad that I forced persuaded him to move to the arse end of the world. The Far North of NZ. Own water supply, firewood, fruit trees to supply us year round, chickens, fish from the sea nearby, We could hole up here while the world goes to shit, and beat the boatloads of refugees off the beaches with sticks. Because NZ, I'm predicting, will be the last bastion, the last lifeboat in a world cataclysm. In that notion, I am joined by many rich, bunker-building Northern-Hemisphere citizens.
Not serious about the refugees, actually, but I often wonder what we would do if the above scenario did actually come to pass. I could open a BnB for MNers who want to chance the open ocean?

RainbowMum11 · 27/02/2022 04:54

Not going anywhere - I will fight and protect my family as much as I possibly can, thanks to geography & Brexit, there really aren't that many options for us to flee to anyway.

UsernameInTheTown · 27/02/2022 05:30

I'd stay put and fight it out.

MintJulia · 27/02/2022 05:37

My ds could go and stay with his god-mum in Canada. I'd stay if I thought I could be of any use.

romdowa · 27/02/2022 05:48

@umberellaonesie

Realistically no where because if the removal of visas for Ukrainians to come to the UK this week is anything to go by. No where would have us.
People in the UK can go to Ireland without a visa because of the free travel agreement which was put in place long before the eu and still stands.
ChildrenGrowingUpTooFast · 27/02/2022 05:54

New Zealand. We can’t afford to buy anything in Auckland though. So unless war is imminent we won’t be going.

BigBessie · 27/02/2022 05:56

I have family in Columbia and Bali so I hope my DS and I could make it there
I have a cat though so it would depend if someone could take him in

Waltzingdaydreams · 27/02/2022 06:07

I am already very rural in the far north in the Scottish highlands. So I would not flee. I would expect an influx of people heading our way. Plenty of empty second homes and air b&b up here that can be used to put up refugees from the cities.

jamandmarmaladeoncrumpets · 27/02/2022 06:19

We are staying: I've just hoovered and been to Waitrose.

I am not listening to Putin and his tantrums.

Nillynally · 27/02/2022 06:24

I'd go down the Winchester and wait for it all to blow over.

jamandmarmaladeoncrumpets · 27/02/2022 06:46

Seriously do not negotiate with terrorists.

Why would you all flee? Thats what Putin wants - panic.

Keep calm and just carry on as normal. He's having a tantrum.

jamandmarmaladeoncrumpets · 27/02/2022 06:49

i refuse to leave the home counties just for some small man syndrome psychopath.
