Where would you flee to if war came to us ?

Sorry really not wanting to sound alarmist. But just pondering on the thought of which country we could seek refuge in, should the worst happen?

Our European neighbours would be out, as they'll have their own issues.

So where could we go ? Interesting to think about with all that's going on and how the general public view refugees...

I have no children, am in good health, and my sister already have 2 kids for our family line. So I would stay and volunteer, and hope to raise as much hell as possible for the enemy before I die.

Stripyhoglets1 · 26/02/2022 22:52

I'd stay put I think. Wouldn't abandon my parents and out of the family we live in the smallest town/city. Probably end up with my London living family here too.
Covid showed this is an island too small to really flee to isolation. When everyone headed for the coast/countryside it was heaving!

Quartz2208 · 26/02/2022 22:52

If it comes to the point that we have to worry about it there will be no safe space at all. If it comes to a nuclear war there is no bunker and no place in life that wont be affected by it so no where to run. If it gets to that point it is all bets are off I would rather be in a place where it is instant than live with the after effects of a post nuclear world

ColdTattyWaitingForSummer · 26/02/2022 22:53

I think I’d be most worried about stockpiling medication.. I wouldn’t necessarily die without it, but it would make life very difficult. As a mum of two young men I’d also be terrified about seeing them conscripted Sad
Maybe I’d be like the Ukrainian women spending their Saturday afternoon making Molotov cocktails (today’s news report).. I have to say, that really brought it home, women like me.. There but for the grace of God go I, and all that.

ErrolTheDragon · 26/02/2022 22:54

This talk about 'fleeing' is nonsensical.

Maybe kids would be evacuated if cities were under attack but as to the rest of ordinary people - nope.

FatFucker · 26/02/2022 22:55

I would never run. I'd send my young daughter to Scotland, and my two sons and I would stay and fight.

1Dandelion1 · 26/02/2022 22:56

@MaryAndHerNet he doesn't even have to have one hit, he only has to EMP and we go back to the dark ages.

Mrsmch123 · 26/02/2022 22:56

I would go to rural Scotland. Bundle up the car with as much stuff to keep us as comfortable as possible and hope for the best!

SprayedWithDettol · 26/02/2022 22:58

We wouldn’t flee. We would stay put. Ffs we live in a country that won’t accept refugees so why should another country accept us?
I haven’t and won’t ever vote Tory and hate everything this country has become, but I won’t run like a coward.

wheretogoif · 26/02/2022 23:00

@MaryAndHerNet

If it got to the point that the shores of the UK were about to be invaded, we'd be fucked already because, quite frankly, The nukes would fly long before that happened.

If Ukraine falls.
If Russia step foot into NATO.
World war 3.
Putin begins to lose.
Nukes launce.
US retaliates
Germany retaliates
Trident launches.

Game over...

If Ukraine falls. If Russia step foot into NATO. World war 3. Putin begins to lose. Nukes launce. US retaliates Germany retaliates Trident launches.

Who do you think would launch the first nuke ? Russia, right ? And where would they nuke first ?

@Campervangirl

I'm heading to the front line if they have a use for an arsey, menopausal 50 something female. I'm serious, if the ordinary citizens of the Ukraine can stand up against the might of Russia we can too.
100%
brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr · 26/02/2022 23:01

You want to be in the southern hemisphere. NZ or Patagonia or somewhere like that. I would stay put, fight if possible.

Im2022 · 26/02/2022 23:03

DH and DDs have dual US-UK citizenship so we'd go to the US. I'd feel safe from warfare there.

Safe from warfare, but wondering if your kids have been victims of another high school shooting every time you send them to school….

Runaround50 · 26/02/2022 23:04

@thebabessavedme

I'm here to stay, I'm actually furious, we have had 2 fucking years of covid, then, just as the world was starting to brighten we get this fucking loony tune who wants to rule the bloody world, even though his own country dosent have a pot to piss in, with his threats and posturing. Our politicians are a bunch of wet weekends who have shown they cant even arrange a piss up without causing chaos - I too (*@bumblingbovine49*) am a 60 year old menopausal woman and I will protect my family with my dying breath if it comes to it.
@thebabessavedme totally agree! Another menopausal se arsey woman who would be staying put. IF the red button EVER gets pushed, we are all done for anyhow. Until then, family and pets are protected all the way.
MajorCarolDanvers · 26/02/2022 23:04

If things get as far as our shores then the world is fucked. There won't be anywhere to go and even if there was how do you think you'd get there.

thegreylady · 26/02/2022 23:06

I have a son in Turkey but how safe would that be?

Lyonic · 26/02/2022 23:06

Ok firstly, I dont think us Scots want anymore English telling us how miserable the weather is haha!

For real though. What most people domt understand in this thread is the threat level. If you think Ukraine stands any chance, you are wrong.

If you live in a weak country, which safe country would you live in? The usa is the safest place to live, then China. After that its all abit murky.

TheLoupGarou · 26/02/2022 23:06

Look, if it comes to ww3 and nuclear strikes you might as well go and stand under the bomb as it drops and get vaporised because everywhere would be fucked.

girlwiththetigertattoo · 26/02/2022 23:07

I would probably go to my embassy and wait for further instructions as my home country is pretty good with evacuations. But I'm not sure how things will work out logistically plus I think it's much more stressful to leave than stay behind and fight plus my home country is also a nato member so not sure how safe that would be as well. Other than that if I can get hold of a weapon I would stay and defend and hope for the best. I think I would stay and I have a fighting spirit in my genes anyway and as folklores tell, we are stubborn nut jobs that would fight until we drop dead and even if I'm lying in a pool of my own blood, I will still fight and try to get a final blow in.

Runaround50 · 26/02/2022 23:08

I would stay put with my family.
But pretty much like this time 2 years ago, the loo rolls are disappearing off the shelves, the flour is disappearing and petrol queues appear to be forming.

Alas, we emerge from one global crisis, into another 🤦‍♀️

1Dandelion1 · 26/02/2022 23:08

@wheretogoif it would be more likely not to be aimed at a particular place, for maximum effect it would be detonated 250 miles high and create an EMP, knocking out all communication, powered transport and anything electronic in a very large area.

Iggly · 26/02/2022 23:09

@SprayedWithDettol

I agree with all of what you say except the bit about fleeing like a coward.

I don’t think it’s cowardly to flee. I think it’s fucking brave to be honest.

MaryAndHerNet · 26/02/2022 23:10

Who do you think would launch the first nuke ? Russia, right ? And where would they nuke first ?

Cherrysoup · 26/02/2022 23:11

Thinking of the Day After: Cumbria, Scotland, middle of nowhere. My fil grew up in a country town and never really saw any impact from WW11. However, my mil grew up in an industrial town and lived through severe deprivation, fear of bombs etc. Go somewhere they won’t bomb.

hangrylady · 26/02/2022 23:14

@apprenticewage

I actually this thread is quite a ridiculous question, ppl don't have a choice ffs, you go to the closest, safest place! Their not sitting there contemplating like they are at a travel agents and neither would you. You do what is right at the time...easiest, safest place. End of...
Exactly. As if people would just be able to hop on a plane to Canada or Jamaica. Dual citizenship means fuck all when the airport has been bombed Hmm
